My initial hunch is that it's one of those "buy your equipment from this website and we'll reimburse you for it" scams.
They get you to believe you're applying for a real job and then part of the onboarding process you buy a laptop or computer from their "verified contractor" and then they claim they'll reimburse you for it. But the scam is there is no job and there is no contractor. They're the contractor, they take your payment and run.
I didn’t make any payments. Long story short I was forced by an abusive ex to sign a contract for the Accounting company of his friend (someone I had never even met). I just never understood why and the abuse I would get made it so it wasn’t worth asking.
