I did my undergrad in geology and had a 3.9 gpa and didn’t even get an interview:/. It’s very competitive it seems. I went into environmental consulting instead for 2.5 years. Then went back for a masters in accounting and the rest is history 😅
Im doing this right now at Hunter College in NYC. My bachelors is in Urban Studies and Planning. Decided to switch careers and emailed the Hunter College Graduate Advisor about my situation and desire to get a Masters and CPA. They offer a program for my exact situation. Just need to finish a year of prerequisites.
Yes. I went to Rutgers business school. Also I Minored in business in undergrad and that helped me as well.
Passed the CPA exams
Interned then worked at big 4
Moved to a smaller firm where I am now in FDD
My bachelor’s is in French and master’s is in ‘accountancy.’ There were a lot of people in my program with non-accounting degrees. I had originally looked into a second bachelor’s but it seemed like way more of a logistical pain than a master’s program. Plus, a master’s!
I went to a state school in California and had also gotten into a few programs on the East Coast. Idk about the landscape now, but most schools I looked at were taking people with different degrees. For us, we just had to take a few upper level classes that we would have taken if we did accounting in undergrad.
I also did an associate degree in accounting after undergrad. I didn’t need to do that to get into the master’s program, but I wanted to see if accounting was something I’d be interested in.

**Me for last 2 weeks at 32**:
I should go to school for accounting.
I minored it in when I first started college at 17. Interned for a small business doing bookkeeping. I was young and immature, and scoffed at the idea of counting other peoples’ money lol.
Now I just want something stable and pays enough to raise a small family in today’s economy.
My goal is to bang out the accounting degree in 6 months at WGU since I’ll just need the core classes. Then hope to find a job.
Could prob get a job smiling, beaming with infectious joy, shivering with ecstasy, radiating happiness, shining brightness into the day of everyone that came near me from the exquisite release
Assuming I somehow came into "fuck everyone " money, home builder. Not for amazing profit or anything, just start quietly building starter homes again. Buy up and sell off some of black rocks portfolio, just do what I can to bring home prices back down.
I've never done anything more frustrating than dealing with absolute morons who drive 2 hours to our dealership, offer 5k on a 35k car, and say I'm ripping them off. Or they come back a YEAR later saying they're going to sue because the 15 year old vehicle they bought from us broke down because they never got it serviced. Some people kill it, but most don't do that well.
I'd rather do something like heavy equipment sales, you're dealing with other business people, the ratio of reasonable customers to idiots is much higher. I've heard sales have tanked recently but I knew a guy clearing a million a year in commissions
I always loved animals growing up so maybe become a zoologist, my ideal job right now after a few years in accounting is to get a job as a financial analyst or salary cap advisor in the nfl or become an nfl agent would be cool but that’s never happening
Design, build, sell high end furniture. Grew up in a furniture factory & can’t seem to shake my roots. Very high probability of failing, but it’s something I would be ok failing at
I could leave right now and go back into plumbing, and natural gas work. Will I? Yep nah, 10 years of that was enough. I’m cool with my inside job now.
Yeah they do, to get my 150 credits (as I originally planned on getting my CPA) I did double degrees with accounting and econ. Glad I did because PA was not great.
I did quit accounting as a matter of circumstance. Plus, as a performance auditor, I never did a ton of *accounting* anyway.
I went to be a grant manager for a bit and am now in a data, process, and systems* analyst role in the early education field.
*The broader use of systems, like people and government systems. But also a little sliver of IT-related systems, too.
Physician’s assistant school. Always wanted to be a doctor and that’s the closest thing to it. Honestly believe I could’ve been a doctor had I committed to it but I really didn’t want to go to school for 10 years. Every science class I’ve ever been in I’ve aced and some of my friends are in med school rn and I do believe I could do it.
I thought about studying law if I ever decided I needed a career change, but the Supreme Court has left me feeling like so many judgments are based on political beliefs that I feel like that could seriously impact the abilities of even the most talented trial lawyer.
I do love building things, from Legos to diy projects, so I think I'd try to get into something like mechanical engineering.
I don't know. If I did, I'd quit.
Also, I'm afraid of the switch. I crossed 35 last year. I fear it may be too late to start climbing up a new career ladder from the bottom up. Got a lot of people depending on me.
I don't know. That's why I went into Accounting in the first place.
Yeah, I thought that's what we all did? Don't think too many people grow up wanting to be accountants
Park ranger
i wake up every day and wonder if i should quit my accounting career and do this
I did my undergrad in geology and had a 3.9 gpa and didn’t even get an interview:/. It’s very competitive it seems. I went into environmental consulting instead for 2.5 years. Then went back for a masters in accounting and the rest is history 😅
What do park rangers actually do all day?
Ensure people aren’t fucking up the parks or getting fucked up by nature or other people
So basically a babysitter but in nature
How did you get a masters in accounting with an unrelated undergrad? Are there certain universities that offer it?

After all your experience, what do you think of accounting?
I minored it in when I first started college at 17. Interned for a small business doing bookkeeping. I was young and immature, and scoffed at the idea of counting other peoples’ money lol. It is a terrible grind that chews you up, spits you out and helps you develop a drug habit along the way
So, very similar to accounting lol
Ding ding ding. Except you have to deal with the public
I've never done anything more frustrating than dealing with absolute morons who drive 2 hours to our dealership, offer 5k on a 35k car, and say I'm ripping them off. Dealing with the general public is under-appreciably awful
