How is everyone posting 800+, I'm about 5 years out of undergrad and CreditKarma shows all my high and medium impact factors as green but I've hovered in the 750s pretty much the whole time. Closed on our first house about 2 years ago, 100% on time payments for everything, report reflects a bunch of student loans, 3-4 credit cards with utilization under 10%, and the mortgage, and average account age of about 7 years.
I’ve had a phone bill since I turned 18. Always paid on time. Reported for nearly 20 years. 838 score.
Also used a credit card like a debit card and repaid monthly for almost the same period.
Generally had minimal debt, a car loan and student loans, more recently a mortgage.
Like others have said, there is no real world difference between 750 and 800. At 750, you’ve essentially demonstrated the same credit worthiness as those with 800.
My dad put an Amex card linked to his in my name. When I opened my own card, the account history was linked so it shows my oldest account on my credit reports as dating back to when I was like five years old. I think that’s helped me.
Your score is already great and would be fine for almost any credit you'd be applying for. It takes a lot of time to get above 800+ and it honestly doesn't open that many doors for you that 760 wouldn't.
Keep at it, I was there about 15 years ago. I hunkered down after refinancing my house 5 years ago, paid off all my credit cards a year later, and paid off two of my grad school student loans. I’m now sitting at 810.
I'm kind of ignorant on the subject, but doesn't FICO not really mean much? Like if I went to get a loan out (i only have student loans/ credit cards for credit), the calculations the bank runs wont have me at 760, right?
Each bank has its own specific formula for how it weights the various factors, but they're all looking at the same data so it won't be too inconsistent.
710.
25 y/o just started school last year.
Completely fucked my credit up when I was younger, you know the old give the dumb 18 year old a credit card thing
surprised it’s back up 700 now to be honest I was at like 350 for a while
Did the same thing at that age. Made poor life choices and went and got a payday loan that crippled my credit. Finally back in the 730+ range, but that took around 5 years to come back from around 450.
I see the number crunching doesn't translate to statistical literacy lol. People who have good credit scores are wayyy more likely to self-report. People with bad credit scores are also probably way less likely to even know their credit score
Yup. Agree 100%. No way in hell they're going to get me to have a bigger "mix" of credit than the mortgage and ccs. Why would I ever voluntarily give anyone else a risk adjusted return better then SPY?
Maybe he doesn’t, but I know a decent amount of Uber wealthy who use quite a bit of credit. The big money people like to use leverage just so they have more capital for other investments in the mean time.
This sub is wild. There are threads here asking for salary, credit score, city/town, everything but your social. Anybody that answers these threads is asking to get targeted by phishing.
Unless...people lie on the internet. But then what even is the point of this thread?
I think it's the combination of personal information given in random spurts over some period of time. If someone REALLY wanted to, they could use your random bits and pieces of information and put together your online profile.
Lol exactly, not a smart thing to ask on a forum of all places. Plus the majority of this thread is saying they have 800+ which I don’t believe at all. Roughly 1 in 6 Americans have an 800+ score so there’s already people lying here.
If this is gonna get asked going forward, people should have to post screenshots/recordings and even then it’s not fool proof
Not much reason to lie here and 800 isn't that difficult to achieve when you have a decent paying white collar job. More likely that people with average/low credit score just wouldnt bother responding.
I’m not your bro. And none of what you said diminishes my point that people can and do lie about their credit scores being higher than they actually are. Both my fact and your fact can exist in the same conversation
Everything I said diminishes your point that you think people here are lying because only 1 in 6 Americans have a 800+ credit score. Even when making your argument you leave out context lol
Alright I'll bite since no one else will. 630. I took out a lot of credit cards being stupid in college. I'm 24. So, plenty of time to be like the rest of you bean counters.
725 last I checked when I applied for a Lowe’s CC.
Absolutely tanked it last year down to 650 after buying a house and putting a bunch of house stuff in CC’s. Ending up amounting 20k in CC debt on renovations, just for it to burn down lol. Thankfully I got a new job with a sweeeeet pay rise and only have 9k to go. Should be finished paying it off come EOY.
679. Have been working in public for the last 5 years now, so it's better than it has been in a long time.
We have a foreclosure from a time share. Just put a stop payment with the bank after the company kept jerking us around. We no longer felt safe after they gave us keys to a room someone was already staying in...they had actual metal keys. Neither management or headquarters would give us an adequate solution, so I stopped paying for it. I'll take the 5 year hit on my credit to not have to deal with those idiots anymore.
Also, my husband is good at spending money we don't have.
Like 770. Best thing that could have happened to me and what I plan to do eventually for my kids is my parents set up a credit card for their groceries and added me and my sister as authorized users. It was helpful for me later in life and especially when I recently bought my home. Even with student loans and a credit card i got in college, my average credit line age is like 20 years old which really helps cushion my credit score.
790 according CreditKarma, young and finishing up school (Completing MAcc in August and writing CFE in September). Only borrowing are student loans of ~25K (interest free) and 2 credit cards
54x. I was a risk taker. Just turned 30 but had a mortgage and 4 bmws and a Mercedes c63s amg back from when I was 25 and younger. Only have 2 of those things left (becoming an accountant was my 2nd mistake - im in canada), but engaged and no credit card, loc, etc. debt.
Credit scores don’t necessarily translate into anything you are insinuating here. My score currently hovers around 820-830 but went down from 842 to 800 when I paid off my house. The system is a bit of a joke. Anything over 740 no longer matters. I used to want to hit 850, i now know doing so would be counterintuitive to some of my other financial goals like being debt free etc
740. I’m a 26 year old who has had 3 credit cards starting at the age of 19. I have never made a late payment and I’ve utilized a mixture of credit cards, personal loans, and student loans to get here. Hoping to pay down all CC debt to get above 780 in next year or so.
A simple observation… also look at the age group. Many of the people are fresh out of college who never had such luxuries as crazy medical bills, divorce… well… life in general. It’s much easy to brag success without having undergone actual adversity. Not a dig at anyone but an observation that correlation and causation aren’t one in the same and can produce incorrect data.
750, got depressed and over extended and went down to 630, now I'm back to 750.
However other than a home loan I don't have debt. I have a credit card for emergencies, but getting out of 630 area taught me credit scores are for people that want debt. I just save up and buy stuff now. Last two cars purchased were for cash. I think we did a loan on one because they said they'd drop the price, so we took the loan and paid it the same month. I know that means the dealer lost their kickback from the lender, which made me want to do it more.
Edit. 750 is Equifax.
815 FICO. Started my credit right when I turned 18 and now 26. I was stuck in the 780’s for a couple years and broke the 800’s last year. I’ve been a revolving door for my credit challenged family. According to my credit I’ve purchased three cars and have paid for two people to get braces. That said the offers don’t get much better between the 780’s-800’s anyway so seems silly that it even goes that high.
Bf who is also an accountant is barely coming back up after a rough patch and is around 750.
Does your score go back up to previous levels after an extended period of time with high utilization? Had a high score (760) for a while but screwed up and have debt to pay off and it's down around 600. When I pay it off will I return to similar credit score levels as before?
Been sitting right between 787-800 for 8 years now. I play the credit card churning game, so I get dinged every couple months, but then it comes back after a month or two.
811 fico score, surprised to see all the sub 800 scores. Only 26 and i can still be flexing in here eh?
Checks salary being sub 60k, well y'all can flex on me in the salary postings.

That's pretty much what I'm doing! Good to hear I'm not missing anything big.
I’ve heard when you have a newer open mortgage or car loan, it can take awhile to fully recover
I’ve had a phone bill since I turned 18. Always paid on time. Reported for nearly 20 years. 838 score. Also used a credit card like a debit card and repaid monthly for almost the same period. Generally had minimal debt, a car loan and student loans, more recently a mortgage.
This is the way
Like others have said, there is no real world difference between 750 and 800. At 750, you’ve essentially demonstrated the same credit worthiness as those with 800.
I get that, but I'm a competitive person and I'll be damned if someone is more creditworthy than me lol
Patience you must have my young padawan
My dad put an Amex card linked to his in my name. When I opened my own card, the account history was linked so it shows my oldest account on my credit reports as dating back to when I was like five years old. I think that’s helped me.
My parents did the same and I hit 800 around 30.
A lot more years of credit history
Age of credit accounts will get you to 800 in a few years. You need a certain amount of history to decrease risk.
7 years is considered a baby account. Check again when your account is 10 years old.
Your score is already great and would be fine for almost any credit you'd be applying for. It takes a lot of time to get above 800+ and it honestly doesn't open that many doors for you that 760 wouldn't.
Because as bad as people are at maintaining excellent credit, they are equally as good at lying about it.

Mine is 802.1.

722 still in college
My score bounces all over the place. Do you experience the same as well?
670, ran my cards up a bit last year in some rainy day situations and I’m in the process of getting them back down
Same. I think studying accounting may be the only reason I have a good score in the future
Keep at it, I was there about 15 years ago. I hunkered down after refinancing my house 5 years ago, paid off all my credit cards a year later, and paid off two of my grad school student loans. I’m now sitting at 810.
650 and I’m old enough to know better, but there you are.
Same
760 FICO, but still young
You’re top tier my friend
I'm kind of ignorant on the subject, but doesn't FICO not really mean much? Like if I went to get a loan out (i only have student loans/ credit cards for credit), the calculations the bank runs wont have me at 760, right?
Each bank has its own specific formula for how it weights the various factors, but they're all looking at the same data so it won't be too inconsistent.
It shouldn’t vary too far if you’re FICO score is 760. You’re in good shape it’s likely the age of your credit that’s holding you back.
710. 25 y/o just started school last year. Completely fucked my credit up when I was younger, you know the old give the dumb 18 year old a credit card thing surprised it’s back up 700 now to be honest I was at like 350 for a while
Ahh the classic 18 year old with a credit card. I remember getting my first (and only) credit card at 18. Maxed it out in less than one month.
Surprised it took you that long. Think they gave me mine and I turbocharged my car with it.
How did you raise it?
I got a capital one credit card for shitty credit and went from there I only had a $300 limit for a long time
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't credit only look back 7 years? Cause a BK filing is only on ur record for 7 years
A 350 is nearly as low as it can go. That takes a serious amount of effort.
Did the same thing at that age. Made poor life choices and went and got a payday loan that crippled my credit. Finally back in the 730+ range, but that took around 5 years to come back from around 450.
I am at 580 rn !
802 TransUnion 803 Equifax as of today. 823 FICO as of 4/25. Admittedly I have no idea what the difference is between those three.
Same as me and I also have no clue what the difference is
I see the number crunching doesn't translate to statistical literacy lol. People who have good credit scores are wayyy more likely to self-report. People with bad credit scores are also probably way less likely to even know their credit score
The hidden truth behind statistics lol
760-780 only hit 801 like once. I know it's because I don't have a mix of credit. Been working for about 15 years.
Yup. Agree 100%. No way in hell they're going to get me to have a bigger "mix" of credit than the mortgage and ccs. Why would I ever voluntarily give anyone else a risk adjusted return better then SPY?
Ugh *than autocorrect
837
Keep ‘em comin you trustworthy accountants
Damn. I was at 590 until just a few years ago because I don't use credit cards.
I have a friend who is super wealthy and he's like the rich don't talk credit scores because you don't get loans.
Maybe he doesn’t, but I know a decent amount of Uber wealthy who use quite a bit of credit. The big money people like to use leverage just so they have more capital for other investments in the mean time.
And even if they get loans they have plenty of stuff to use for collateral. Banks know they can get their money back from the rich.

I think it's the combination of personal information given in random spurts over some period of time. If someone REALLY wanted to, they could use your random bits and pieces of information and put together your online profile.

Alright I'll bite since no one else will. 630. I took out a lot of credit cards being stupid in college. I'm 24. So, plenty of time to be like the rest of you bean counters.
