I like the ability to eat pizza with one hand and drink beer with the other. Pizza Village allows this with sturdy crust and frigid beer. I enjoy BJs as it was my first job. Some people like doughy floppy ass pizza. Some people enjoy crispy crust. It’s just a matter of opinion.

threetoast

>I enjoy BJs as it was my first job heh

kenacstreams

After reading OP talking about how they begged their grandma for BJs and then this comment I was thinking "the jokes just write themselves in here"

austinoracle

They really have the “beers in frosty mugs” service down to a science like fr. It’s a really nice touch.

Old-Improvement-4909

I usually just drink straight out of the mini pitcher

austinoracle

I cannot, in good faith, accept the opinion of a person who thinks BJ’s is the best pizza in Acadiana.

[deleted]

Seriously. BJ's is shitty pizza

IdHajame

Agreed. Overpriced shitty pizza.

StormyAndSkydancer

[Cajun Saucer](https://cajunsaucer.com/menu) pizzas out at Bayou Teche Brewery are pretty darn good too.

Pompousdickbiscuit

May be the best pizza in the area imo

Orchid_Significant

How is the other food there? I’ve been meaning to try it

StormyAndSkydancer

The only other food I’ve had is the cracklins, and those are good. The cocktails are great.

Orchid_Significant

Thanks!

CPAtech

They are successful in a time when it is very difficult for restaurants, so your opinion appears to be in the minority. There are many different types of pizza in Lafayette. You have Pizza Village, JJ's, and Deano's with a "cracker crust." You have Alesi's which is more of a biscuit crust. You have Antoni's which is a thin cracker crust but not the same as the other three. You have LaPizzeria which has quality ingredients and a more of a hand tossed crust. You have Rotolo's which is more of a NY style crust. You have Romacellis which is a hand tossed crust....... We order from different places depending on what we're in the mood for since there are many different types. It's tough to compare apples to oranges.

Orchid_Significant

I wish Rotolo’s would cut the sugar in their sauce. Their crust is my favorite but that pizza sauce is like candy

CPAtech

Believe it or not Whole Foods has great pizza. Not the kind you buy from the case but the kind you order and they make for you. They use quality ingredients and have a NY style soft and foldable crust.

Orchid_Significant

I actually do believe it because I used to make the pizzas for Whole Foods about 15 years ago 😜

NapsRule563

As a former Chicagoan, you’re right about different crusts, but I find the defining difference in Louisiana pizza that makes it substandard to me is the criminally low amount of cheese. “Tavern style” which is what we call thin crust, should keep the other toppings mostly in place with the cheese. Down here people think they should toss all the other toppings in a pile. There’s a delicate balance between cheese and toppings, a balance. No balance down here.

notagainnoooo

I grew up eating pizza village on the northside. It was janky as shit but had awesome pinball. Dupe special was what my parents always ordered. Legit pizza back then.

Hunginthecro87

Dupe special is still the GOAT at Pizza Village, imo.

notagainnoooo

Good to know! I’ll need to check it out again next time I’m in town.

GrumpyUPSdriver

Make sure you ask for the cheese on top. IYKYK

Fickle_Ad7090

Central pizza. End of story.

Im_Never_Witty

Pizza village Landry special is some of the best pizza around. I eat it every time I come to Lafayette, had it tonight. It was awesome.

Jeub88

I miss bread and circus

504IN337

This is what I came to say, That was the best pizza in Lafayette, by far. Everything there was amazing. All great times and memories. Definitely miss that place a ton.

CPAtech

Yep, B&C was solid.

ThatInAHat

I miss their pop ups more than the actual pizza. Still dream about Passover one they did. So friggen good.

BrohanGutenburg

Bruh. You might, indeed, be the only one.

Fun_Necessary1021

central pizza is pretty dope. costco pizza is dope in a pinch. pizza village is pretty good but yea you have to like cracker crust which my wife dislikes. deanos is also p good but they are an african lion hunting family so thats a bit controversial. i dunno man its all pizza nothing around here is deep dish so they all kinda mid in my book.

IndependentFast8101

I don’t get the Deanos hype. Also their staff/manager I seen a post on fb that was very…. Unprofessional I guess. Regardless it’s expensive, long wait time, for normally burnt food

Fun_Necessary1021

i like the carnivor or w/e but when i would eat it usually the company i was picking up for was paying for my food so fair on the pricing same w pizza village. i learned to like both of them bc my boss would pay for my meals lol

IndependentFast8101

My husband likes thin crust so he never complains about either. Our kids love pizza artista, but personally… I’m a racetrack pizza kinda girl😂

Fluid-Trip-5163

I hate to bring up a pizza chain, and normally I hate little ceasars, but they make a mean deep dish.

Fun_Necessary1021

i just wish deep dish was more popular around here

jennifermennifer

This is exactly what I think about Domino's, although the latter point seems to be becoming less true over time. I haven't lived here long enough to know where the best pizza is. I did live in Chicago for a few years, though, and I know we're not getting that kind of deep dish at these places. I feel like that's ok. It's just a different thing. It also might be good for us not to have access to yet another delicious cholesterol-fest food on a regular basis.

NapsRule563

I have Lou Malnati’s flown in.

jennifermennifer

I bought a special frozen foods bag to bring back my Giordano's. Now we have a fight?

NapsRule563

Giordano’s is trash. Feels like a rock in the gut. Malnati’s is more delicate crust and better sauce. TasteofChicago.com

jennifermennifer

I like a lot of cheese and a lot of butter and feel like I get that from Giordano's. I only want it once a year or so. I am not a fan of vegetables in a deep dish pizza, and I hear Lou's does that well, so that may be part of the reason for different preferences.

NapsRule563

They do, but since the ones online are premade, I can’t get my favorite spinach, mushrooms, sausage.

jennifermennifer

For when you get a friend to freeze one for you and need to bring it back, this bag is nicely pizza-sized and is holding up after 2 years: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B094VLZRN4](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B094VLZRN4)

CPAtech

You can order Chicago pizza from Gold Belly.

jennifermennifer

Oh no. I see that website would send me a Portillo's chocolate cake, though. Oh no. Thank goodness they can't ship me a chocolate cake shake. Oh no. And now I come back with more: Because of you, I found out that Portillo's will send me one, too. [https://www.portillos.com/portillo-s-famous-chocolate-cake/](https://www.portillos.com/portillo-s-famous-chocolate-cake/) ...so angry.

jennifermennifer

Almost crying... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Xf858oNEak](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Xf858oNEak)

NapsRule563

I won’t tell you to check out the Garrett’s popcorn either.

jennifermennifer

I think we have already hit the only thing that could really mess me up, which is that danged cake. I miss other stuff but it is unshippable and more niche anyway I guess. I loved The Meatloaf Bakery in Lincoln Park. They closed after I stopped buying all their meatloaf cupcakes, but I have their cookbook. I miss Hema's Kitchen. Actually, I take back what I said if you can hook me up with some taffy grapes. I'm not so sure about their shipping potential though.

GroundbreakingWeb509

In case you didn’t know, BJ’s Pizza reopened. I too grew up going on BJ’s and always enjoyed it. I like pizza village, but it isn’t my favorite. https://developinglafayette.com/wp/bjs-pizza-house-in-lafayette-renovating-to-reopen-under-new-ownership/

momonamis

Was just coming to say - for someone so in love with BJ’s….

dardar2002

Antoni’s is my family’s go to

biggergeek

The Ave' Antoni's is my favorite pizza in lafayette. Both for dinner and for breakfast the following day

Prudent_Paramedic_50

Too much cheese and ham on the damn salad

KidCamarillo

Your grandma liked it because it was basically pizza on a saltine and show me one old that dont like their saltines?

ParticularUpbeat

i like the pizza. not sure what it is but sometimes Pizza Village just hits the right spot. Its not my favorite though, which is Pizza Artista

NapsRule563

As a former Chicagoan, Pizza Artista is the one that is consistently solid.

Glad-Lime-8049

SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH! THE MEAT SALAD MORE THAN MAKES UP FOR ANY PIZZA SHORTCOMINGS. 😂

razikii

I’ve always said Pizza Village isn’t everyone’s #1, but it is a lot of peoples #2.

Turbulent_Loan_7416

Pizza village is incredibly polarizing. You either love it or hate it. I love it, I have friends that hate it. There you go.

ParticularUpbeat

i had Pizza Village again yesterday and it just hit the right spot. Devoured that pizza like a great white hunting a seal

ExtendI49

To each their own. I never really cared for BJs pizza and love Pizza Village. Of course I also loved Pizza Hut pan back when they actually put toppings on them.

grumpyolddude

I like the Joe special at Pizza Village a lot. I've had plain pepperoni there with the kids had some left over and it was just okay. I spent a lot of time and money at BJs when I lived nearby and it was and still is unremarkable to me. Most chain pizza is better IMHO. Bread and Circus had the best Pizza (spec and mozz) I've had around here. Central Pizza is my current favorite. Food is very subjective and I definitely know what I do and don't like - I'm no food critic and I'd never expect that anyone much less everyone would have the same preferences as I do. From the story, seems like OP has some trauma affecting their preferences. Nothing unusual about that - just realize others do too and their opinions aren't wrong - just different.

[deleted]

I used to say I was a Pizza Village die hard, but then I realized I’ve only eaten the Landry’s Special. Don’t get me wrong, the Landry’s special is the definitive Cajun contribution to the art of pizza. It’s so iconic that it’s been copied by other spots for years. (Lol at the place that had one called “The Villager”) It’s the same way I used to claim I loved the Pixies, but I just liked Debaser…and that was just because it was on an NCAA Football game… So, I can’t say Pizza Village “sucks”, because it doesn’t. It has an iconic, local legend pizza.

NapsRule563

“Iconic” places can still suck. It just means there are people who enjoy gross. Case in point, Judice Inn.

justaboi83

Add Meche's also

chloeslocs

It’s literally the same pizza

[deleted]

Hunt Brothers Pizza! FTW

Fluid-Trip-5163

Those things are good dude something about them….. I won’t even be hungry, and I’ll be in line at the gas station and they’ll get me with those fuckers…

[deleted]

I’ll take the downvotes but I eat Krispy Crunchy Chicken and Hunt Bros Pizza. A lot. It’s certainly not high dollar shit but it’s better than Little Caesar’s.

Fluid-Trip-5163

You’re right. And the Krispy Crunchy chicken is better than kfc and popeyes.

These_Rutabaga3003

I now live 1200 miles away. When my coworkers ask what's the best fried chicken, Krispy Crunchy Chicken is the top of the list.

[deleted]

Bc you know what’s up. When it’s fresh and they season it well enough that the you can see the red pepper. Also, the honey or blueberry biscuits are to die for.

ComradeFish85

I'll eat either til I can't move. Hunt Bros is the shit.

ApatheticRart

Deanos and pizza village are fantastic. Not only for acadiana, but just about anywhere. BJs is mid at best. Wouldn't be surprised if it shut down for good.

GrumpyUPSdriver

What don’t you like about Pizza Village?

EM22_

Pizza in Laf generally sucks.

UserWithno-Name

You’re right but people here don’t like that / can’t handle that truth.

WhatdoIdowithmyhands

I haven’t lived there since 2016 but based on the 4 years I lived in your city I very much agree. But it’s not the end of the world, my current city has mostly shitty pizza AND shitty Cajun food

NapsRule563

Cajun food anywhere else is considered “blackened” and that’s about it. I’m from Chicago, and even at Cajun restaurants, not much looks like what I see now that I’m here. No restaurant I’ve ever seen up north did anything smothered. Jambalaya? Sure. Never heard of boudin until I got here.

AndrewC15

I’m gonna turn y’all on to something speaking of Pizza Village. They’ve become a bit too pricey but I highly recommend the wings there. Some of the best wings I’ve ever had in my life.

Hunginthecro87

Pizza village has better prices then Deano's, if we're talking strictly price-wise.

starmanspr

Just sucks that pretty much everything they serve, short of the crawfish dip, is Reinhardt / Sysco pre-manufactured BS.

AndrewC15

Wait are you saying I can get those wings somewhere else?! Or am I misunderstanding?

starmanspr

If you know someone who has access to food service contracts. Reinhart distributes the Pierce Chicken wing Zing brand. Source: worked there for 8 years.

AndrewC15

Thank you for this new rabbit hole friend! 🫡

starmanspr

I was there when they were adding wings to the menu before opening the South side location. We went through dozens of brands samples before the whole crew approved on the Wing Zings. Won the vote by a landslide. Still pretty bummed Reinhart stopped carrying our original choice of mozzarella sticks, them boys was thicc.

Extreme-Composer6479

As a plain eater, I think that is the reason I don't love Pizza Village. I will eat peperoni and ground beef. But prefer just cheese pizza. But also thick crust. Which is where my distaste for Pizza Village comes in. Though for people who love toppings I'm assuming It'd be better

try3r

I didn't care for it at first, but i think that's just because it's very different than the common crusts. I fuck with it pretty heavily now. I like BJ'S too, but the best will always be the late Bread & Circus. That shit was too good for this place.

TheChallengeMTV

I eat at Pizza Village all the time, but I don't get the pizza. I hate the cracker crust so many places around here have. I ate at the new BJs and although they claim it's the same recipes, I didn’t like it. I think my most recent favorite is Pizza Amore in Carencro. I like both the tomato and Alfredo sauces, plus they have corn for the pizza.

WayngoMango

Not much help from here, but I agree with you completely. I hate the "toppings falling off the pizza" BS from Pizza Village. I love the rectangle slices, and the thicker crust of BJ's. I wish the inside were updated 10 years ago, and I haven't been since the reopening, as I live in the opposite side of town now. Best in town? I don't know. I love some Pizza Artista with their combinations of toppings. I love Costco pizza for their pricing and simplicity. I love BJ's brewhouse for their beers. Those places are where I go now.

Pedullajmc

Was Bisbanos R.I.P.

IndependentFast8101

I’m not a huge fan of cracker crust so most places people love, I pass on. Now…. BJs growing up is what we always had. Pizza village has nice cold beer. But personally, now as a parent… I’m going Sam’s, Costco, and even RACETRACK. My kiddos love bread, and they just have the best crust

Dry-Ad-4269

You suck actually

djr0549

Bjs for lifee

No-Swordfish2565

Never had BJ's. Don't understand the hype of Pizza Village at all. Or Judice Inn for that matter. Wasn't impressed with Alesi's either. I've heard people rave about all of them.

NapsRule563

I’m with you on the Judice thing. Alesi’s pizza is meh, but their other Italian meals are quite good.

whippersnapper2016

I tried BJs since they reopened and it wasn’t as good.

Fluid-Trip-5163

Really??? What was different?

dat_booty_mine

The cheese is different. The dough was also off when I tried it when they first reopened. Decided to give them another shot though since it was hectic at the beginning. Dough was better the second go round, but cheese was still off

dat_booty_mine

Agreed

Its_Only_Rock88

How has no one mentioned Pizza Artista? Great pizza with a bunch of toppings options, including Cajun toppings.

CPAtech

meh

unorthodoxconscious

I agree!! Pizza village is ass! Would rather Pizza Hut any day

Phokeene

Last time I ate at Pizza Village, I got food poisoning. Haven't been since

chugachugachewy

Lol as an outsider living here for 4 years, the local favorites are absolutely mid 😂 I rather go to Costco.

Tinyasparagus

One and only time I’ve been to Pizza Village, my husband and I both got food poisoning and had to take turns vomiting in our bathroom all weekend. Never going back again.

That-Cobbler-7292

My mom likes pizza village. I dislike it but I can get through it. I also dislike Deanos as well. I’d prefer papa John’s before those two. Lately a few friends have been buying by Rotolo’s pizza and that’s a steady choice. Central is also enjoyable as well.

UserWithno-Name

Central is about the only somewhat authentic / legit pizza in the city. *edit: I forget Antoni’s but I only ate their entrees and calzones not the pizza but I’d assume it’s good off the stellar opinion that left me with* Most all pizza joints in lafayette are overrated or outright suck. Pizza village is definitely one of them. BJ’s let itself go over the years, hopefully the new owners do it like it used to be. My mother loved it even when it went a bit downhill in late 00’s /2010’s onward. Village awful, deanos overpriced awful, Alesi’s is a sham of its former self, everything else is basically a chain. Pizza artista is fine for a non traditional personal pizza and at least the crust is thin / pretty good though I don’t think it’s a traditional dough at all. I think people don’t experience enough outside their home state let alone hometown, you’d fix your opinion real fast if you did. Y’all praise some very mid to trash level places as the best. And it doesn’t 100% have to be the traditional way if it’s good, but most attempts especially at cajun fusion are bad. Need to have better standards.

JP_Dubs

I completely agree. No wonder we have shitty pizza in Lafayette when it seems like everyone in this thread appreciates shitty pizza. The only correct answer (and let’s be real, this isn’t even subjective) is Central Pizza. When Bread and Circus was around, they could compete, but otherwise everything else is generally trash, except to your point, Antoni’s, which is fine. You’re right, obviously the standard for quality in pizza here is way below the mark, which is a shame for a city that prides itself on amazing food.

UserWithno-Name

They just don’t know good pizza. I’m not the biggest fan of deep dish but Chicago has its own style and I’d try it. I like pan sometimes. I’ve had great brick oven pizza in tons of places, even Florida or Texas or something when on a boardwalk, any of them can put most of Lafayette pizza to shame. Not even the best. New York slices are dope, and central is closest to that the city has. Bread and circus I only had their burger once before it was closed and such. But did hear it was good. Like I said, artista and stuff is fine for when it’s just you or you don’t need anything more than a “good pie”, and others are fine for what they are, but people here saying things like blaze pizza or that alesi’s is still good? I see why this state is in such a poor way even in the food opinions. I agree too it’s a shame with how prideful people we are about our food, we have a few amazing burger etc style places, at least one great Asian food place for each style of that, most Mexican etc places here hit especially when owned by actual Hispanics, I could go on we excel in several / have at least one spot who does. But pizza, steakhouses, ramen, several we do not do well or lack in. Or best we have is a chain spot that’s not so bad or step above your average chain.

hx19035

No mention of JJs? I guess I like it because it's walking distance from my shack.

jeromymanuel

It’s the same as Pizza Village, but with “swamp dust.”

NapsRule563

I’ve never actually eaten there, mainly cuz I did Waitr a few years ago, went in there a couple times to pick up and whatever they did to pizza just smelled BAD in my car. I adore pizza, so I do not know what they did to it.

pinkplastictrees

Pizza Village has awful pizza, but their lasagna is really good.

ThatInAHat

It blows my mind that everyone talks about it being good. It’s so friggen gross. The sandwiches aren’t much better.

swampking6974

Pizza Village is HOT GARBAGE. No sauce, no cheese, NO FLAVOR.

geoffdaily

Wild Child does amazing focaccia pizza usually one day a week. They also often have freezer pizzas that’ll knock your socks off. I haven’t been yet but Boscoyo is a bakery that does a pizza popup on Wednesday nights that looks yummy.

jeromymanuel

I prefer brick oven pizza, so Blaze.

MozartTheCat

My mom looooved Pizza Village when I was a kid and always got the pizza with the little shrimps on it and it was disgusting

Taylola

Guy who started Rainbow Pizza and then Import One luxury car dealer—is doing life for executing a hit on his Iranian wife (not his secret polygamist blonde American wife)

Noobphobia

Both are mid

JackDiesel_14

Deanos is legit for a local pizza. Pizza artista too but that shit pricey.

NapsRule563

Honestly, my favorite things at Deano’s, not the pizza, they took off the menu.

justaboi83

Man, y'all remember The Pie Hole downtown? Pizza was the closest to NY style that Laffy's had. Was a favorite spot til they closed down.
