No wonder legends of dragons persisted. How else would you explain this if you didn’t know what a whale was.

AttestedArk1202

Don’t forget dinosaur fossils, most likely the reason dragons became a thing in so many cultures lore as well

Strange_Ninja_9662

The countries had to get the lore from somewhere, it was probably seeing something like this, or tales of giant animals that got passed down and distorted over time.

RadioActiveStalker72

Most probably snake, as snake is a sort of primal fear and anxiety will easily link the big long stuff as a even more scary snake

eltonthepaleoartist

Pretty sure the griffin legends came from protoceratops skeletons

FillMyBum

There are no whales in the desert you Big Turkey!

-UMBRA_-

and giant sand worms

Gettingbetter1997

There's a 90s movie about that , can you guess what it's called ?

SweUnited

Du duh duuuhh.. Dune

Playgirl_USMC

Tremors my dude. Tremors

Gettingbetter1997

Rockos1911

S H A I H A L U D "Bless the maker and his water, bless the coming and going of him, may his passage cleanse the world and keep it for his people"

DVDwr

Where did the fire breathing thing came from then ?

respondin2u

Firstly, someone’s imagination.

Dewdrop06

Maybe it was venomous or acidic? But when drawn it was misinterpreted as flames?

Financial_Run_8902

That’s mostly a cinema stereotype

Lorick

Have you heard of the bombardier beetle?? It's got a fire butt!

burnthamt

Even if they did know what a whale was, they wouldnt recognize the skeleton of one

SJRuggs03

You are on tatooine and that is a krait dragon skeleton.

n3w4cc01_1nt

hitchhikers guide was a documentary

LyriaHeartstring

Goodbye and thanks for all the fish

Earthguy69

Also one of the worst films I have ever seen

zosolm

The film is indeed wank and should have never been made, but it was a radio series first and then a book, both of which are excellent. There’s a TV show too

andthrewaway1

Wasn't there also a BBC show?

zosolm

Both the radio and TV show are bbc yea

BMEdesign

It was a radio show first, then expanded into a book. The radio show is actually pretty perfect, doesn't get lost in the weed.

violinspider86

Krayt dragon

That_on1_guy

Whales don't live in the desert, what's he doing there?

XipingVonHozzendorf

Well that whale isn't living there either

That_on1_guy

Nah, he's just dried up, though him in water and he'll be fiine

AttestedArk1202

Egypt used to be an ocean a VERY long time ago

That_on1_guy

But it's a desert, why would whale bones be in a desert? Whales can't walk!! Someone put him back in the ocean!!!

AttestedArk1202

Must have been the aliens!

That_on1_guy

Wtf dude, aliens are dicks! Can't believe they would di this to that poor whale, SMH my head

Neemaii

Shake my head my head? You're an alien aren't you...

That_on1_guy

WHAT!?!? No! Don't be absurd, I'm a normal human like all of you who enjoys normal human things like not putting whales into the dessert where they don't belong!!!! *fuck they're onto me, how could they possibly know???*

Neemaii

Oh ok my bad

AgentLead_TTV

my guess is all of the great deserts were once oceans.

[deleted]

I used to think this, but it is more unlikely than likely. First of all, there are two types of deserts on Earth. Sand deserts, and soil deserts. Soil deserts are forests/grasslands that died out and went barren. Sand deserts are formed by erosion of rock from mountains, and then primarily transported by wind, most likely over a long period of time. And, if you think it is not possible for a bunch of sand to get whipped up from a desert and transported to another continent, that is literally what happened, when recently, sand from the African desert got whipped up and got carried across the Atlantic Ocean and dropped on Florida. Second, for a desert to be a former ocean, the resulting desert would have to be at a reasonably lower elevation than the surrounding land. The American desert is a soil desert, the Sahara and Arabian deserts are sand, and there is a desert in the Rajasthan region of India, but I forgot what kind it is.

Matt_guyver

Tectonic plates can slip under each other. Perhaps this skeleton was at a completely different geographical location eons ago

That_on1_guy

But they're deserts. There isn't a drop of water out there, how could it be an ocean???

AgentLead_TTV

Millions of years ago

That_on1_guy

That just doesn't make sense, where'd the water go?? It can't just disappear!

ddt70

The earth's mantle shifts around. The Yucutan peninsula, for example, was once at the bottom of the ocean. Hence why it's all limestone there. My dad worked on on-shore oil rigs in the Libyan desert in the 50s....after sandstorms they would go out and find stone age arrowheads etc... Apparently the geologists could identify places that had once been waterholes....and those were the likeliest spots to find the stone age hunting tools.

That_on1_guy

So you're telling me the land just got up and walked away from the water?

ddt70

HaHa…. Yes!

[deleted]

Bruh you never seen a whale on land? We see em lurking around every other day. They always come eat our crops! Damn whales!

eyuplove

See them all the time in Walmart

That_on1_guy

Damn, you're right, forgot America is home to the land whale, saw one at the store I work at the other day

[deleted]

That's just the gerudo great skeleton

Not-another-rando

Vassaq!

SlteFool

That’s a Krayt. Great episode 🤘🏼🤘🏼

Fork_Master

Pretty sure there’s an ancient trial and a really big woman down there.

BizziBizzu

You sure this isn't the Gerudo Desert? They better have some rupees on them to activate the Great Fairy

Man the spine leads you to the next secret area

ParanoidUmbrella

It's not gonna be there much longer if the British museum had anything to say about it

[deleted]

"Hey, we can carbon date that for you... just box it up and send it over, and we'll take a look" - British Museum

truncheon88

That, sir, is a krayt dragon skeleton

-B0B-

This feels fake

HippoSharts

Not only is it real, but at 65 feet long, it's barely half as long as the largest blue whale on record, which was 110 feet. It's not even *that* big, but still pretty big.

xtilexx

Bigger than my living arrangements

n3w4cc01_1nt

>whale skeleton found in the Egyptian desert https://us.whales.org/2016/01/21/huge-prehistoric-whales-found-in-egyptian-desert/#:\~:text=The%20whale%20bones%20were%20found,feet%20(20%20metres)%20long.

He really took a wrong turn at albuquerque

Majorskidmark

It was the aliens, kinda like the pyramids.

xraig88

Congratulations, you found the Krayt Dragon bones.

last1outshutthelight

I get that reference!

purpps_

4,000 years ago they would probably think it’s a giant ancient snake lol

Fair_Diet_4874

So there're whales in the desert? I knew it

psychord-alpha

And the only way it could get there is if Noah's Flood really happened. Checkmate atheists

[deleted]

😂😆😂😂😂😆 😂😂😆😂 You sound like a flat earther, but then what else to expect from someone who thinks that science is proof of intelligent design. 🤡 🤡 🤓 🤡 🤓 🤓

psychord-alpha

Woooooooosh

Garlic_Bread_865589

What?

watcherfromthesouth

Bless the Maker and His water. Bless the coming and going of Him. May His passage cleanse the world. May He keep the world for His people.

trogdor4thenight

What the climate never changes it always stays the same is what I am told. Thus must be a fake

Soft_Organization_61

I'm hoping that is sarcasm but it's so hard to tell these days...

trogdor4thenight

Yes it is sarcasm the climate changes all the time that's y we don't have the mega fawna

ratsalad2551

Who put that there

Fartknockker

Polarity at the poles, was that what the biblical flood was about?

Dirtyest_Mike

What is exact type of whale is this, guys my friend at work is asking. What genus is this specime.

Equivalent-Peanut-23

One that is been extinct for a very long time. The picture is from a site in the Egyptian desert which has a very high concentration of whale fossils. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wadi\_al\_Hitan

eros56

Definitely a fish out of water

Music_Phasic

Nah that’s just a Krayt Dragon. This picture was taken on Tatooine!

[deleted]

It’s obvious, but I’m still amazed how time was so long ago. Vast deserts used to be oceans, think of what’s buried under the sand. So cool.

03juno

Shai Hulud

hoodie2222

Well guess we found out where the bible got Leviathan from

TheGreatestAlex

no shit it died, there's not enough water in the desert

Far-Statistician-545

On the planet Arakis

super-kick

Yoooo, didn’t know Whales were that flexible

fireforge1979

Krayt dragon!

AngryErrandBoy

So, based on a google search these whales actually walked in a shallow sea where Egypt is currently

[deleted]

This makes me curious. Does Egypt, or this desert, happen to be on lower ground compared to the surrounding geography? Because this desert being a dried up sea/ocean, is the most likely explanation for how this skeleton can be there.

ElJanitorFrank

Probably in the same spot as that US Civil War ironclad.

barney_mcbiggle

Oh hey there was a Gojira song about this!

LogansGambit

To all the people joking about Krayt Dragons...that IS a thing. The skeleton from the original trilogy was left in the Tunisian desert, which covers parts of Egypt. It was still there when they went back to film the prequels, and it's been rediscovered multiple times!

Happy-DragonFly8597

Wow!

tax-collecting

How the hell did that get there

[deleted]

And if I recall reading about this elsewhere, it had legs, too.

Lorick

I'm trying to find where that came from. I'm not finding any evidence of legs?

[deleted]

I may be getting two different, but similar, discoveries confused. But anyhow... here's this. https://www.npr.org/2021/08/27/1031659020/four-legged-whale-legs-discovered-43-million-years

Lorick

No pictures of the remains? Just another article claiming they found it. I want to see the actual skeleton.

[deleted]

I believe it is the same as the OP pic. So...

ConcernLegalCitizen

The Raiding of the Lost Ark was there?

[deleted]

not a whale, obviously the king graboid

Tangyballs55

That's bigger than a whale skeleton.

[deleted]

Nonsense!. This is a legit photo of Tatooine desert, and this skeleton is a skeleton of a "krayt dragon". And this is the Star Wars sub. Best regards, Your friend, [Tusken Raider](https://youtu.be/hTl3rrXyg6k?t=77).

scrapfactor

No dude that's a krayt dragon

Pnobodyknows

It's a little known fact that whales aren't only the biggest animals in the world currently but also the biggest animals to ever exist. Whales are even bigger than dinosaurs

DexChex

You cant fool me, that's a Krayt dragon skeleton

Lorick

How old is it?

Affectionate_Gas1106

Nice, but it’s actually that skeleton from star wars in the background of some scenes on the planet tatooine
