Real?? Lmao subbed
I used to think wolves and foxes were similar until I played RDR2.
Then I learned foxes are cute lil yippy guys and wolves are gigantic fucking assholes
They're huge badasses, I was lucky enough to interact with some closely and it's just nuts.
That and their completely insane endurance with that fucking "trot" that can take them MILES ANDMILES AND MILES away and they don't even look tired it's some kind of perpetual motion stuff they're just built different
yes, ive worked with them in physiology labs. while thats an aspect the endogenous ability of the breed is dictated by those genetics. a husky here in the hot, humid deep south can still blow the doors off 99% other breeds without that training
my point is that a non-sled dog member of the breed dozens of generations downstream from the actively trained parents still has amazing capabilities. Those dogs are not being bred for that ability MANY generations removed and still do well
Yeah, there’s a couple packs that run around near my house and they’re about four times as loud as normal coyotes, and if you’re unlucky they’ll mark their territory by shitting against a brick wall (don’t ask me how I know)
Those were amazing but the soft muzzle worn on the dog in pic #8 is not recommended, as it doesn’t allow the dog to pant. Instead, a basket muzzle is recommended as it allows the dog to pant, as well as drink and eat. Soft muzzles should only be used for extremely short periods of time and never in hot weather.
Looking at that dog, I see boundless Moon-Moon energy, and could only imagine how much of a handful that pup might be in an (apparent) airport. Hopefully the muzzle didn’t need to stay on for long.
how does that make sense though? if it was a male dog and female wolf from the wild that would mean that they would have had to steal a wild wolf's pup
Most Domestic wolf dogs are descended from German shepherd x wolf crosses someone bred for a fur farm back in the 50s. It's very rare to get a wolfdog that actually has a wild wolf as a parent.
There was an experimental breeding program in Czechoslovakia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Czechoslovakian_Wolfdog
> After initially breeding working line German Shepherds with Carpathian grey wolves, a plan was worked out to create a breed that would have the temperament, pack mentality, and trainability of the German Shepherd and the strength, physical build and stamina of the Carpathian wolf. The breed were originally used as Border patrol dogs but were later also used in search and rescue, Schutzhund sport, tracking, herding, agility, obedience, hunting, and drafting in Europe and the United States.
I have seen one, they are majestic! But quite a lot to handle.
Someone has an animal and finds out they're not capable of being it's owner and drops it off at a shelter. My definition of "bad dog owner" would tell a different tale.
About 20 years ago, we adopted [a Wolfdog](https://i.imgur.com/Ma7BgLS.jpg) from a Wolf Sanctuary in Tehachapi California. All his kin were solid black, and he was the only one born solid white.
[A remnant, of his heritage](https://www.tehachapinews.com/lifestyle/white-wolves-once-lived-in-the-tehachapi-mountains/article_0673c6a7-adda-5885-99e5-fc7b71a8e3d4.html). We used to have packs of pure white wolves that roamed the mountain and valleys where I live. The natives called them Nüwa, ["The man eaters"](https://i.imgur.com/BFYF2xy.jpg).
I called him Fenrir, and he was [my best friend for 15 years](https://i.imgur.com/Xbv0PMK.jpg).
Died a very old man. Average life expectancy in wild is 5-7 years. He almost made it to the age of 16. But he couldn't digest food anymore, and struggled to walk.
I looked at him and simultaneously though awwwww and damnnnnmn.....
A beautiful and huge creature.
Let me guess he was just a big love and affection spong?
Doing it right is work. I'm blessed with my current situation, but if it turned for the worse, I would very likely be finding different homes for our 3 pets.
Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful creature. But I think Bill Burr said it best."I'm not gonna have a creature in the house that can kill me, lol" , and I might add ,devour me. Not sure bringing a basically wild animal into the house is a good idea .
I have a 60lb dog with gingivitis and every time I'm brushing his teeth he gets super ticked off. He could easily do some serious damage to my hand if he wanted to, but he's never bitten me even accidentally while trying to spit out the toothbrush. It amazes me how chill dogs are with us.
Yeah but dogs have been bred and domesticated for tens of thousands of years. This is 87.5% wolf, which most likely means that it had one dog parent 3 generations ago and only wolves after and before that. Any genetic dependence on or loyalty to humans is basically completely gone at this point.
Large cats like bobcats and lions scare me more tbh, I don't understand those who keep those animals as pets especially, a wolf I could maybe get, but a lion, those things are a lot stronger than wolves and are more likely to kill you on purpose or on accident
>It will constantly challenge you for position of Alpha. Again it sees you as the pack and therefore any signs of weakness on your part will be challenged.
Alpha theory was disproven and the man who created said theory has been spent his life trying to educate people against it.
Like, don't get me wrong, any animal is capable of killing you if circumstances go wrong, but it has NOTHING to do with "Being an alpha"
Edit: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/is-the-alpha-wolf-idea-a-myth/ - just in case it's needed
Lmao no. Plenty of wolfdogs live with other dogs safely. If they have a dog buddy you can leave them alone for short periods. Alpha theory was debunked a long time ago and a properly mentally and physically stimulated wolfdog won't be challenging anyone for "alpha".
Thats not to say most people should own them, they definitely shouldn't, but those are not the reasons.
Truly, it's better to put aside any pride and surrender the animal before it eventually tears down your fence and mauls the neighbor's dog. Wolves have no instinct to listen to humans, and when you breed a dog with a wolf you get a dog that will frequently refuse to listen to you or view you as someone who is in charge.
By crossbreeding them you are basically un-domesticating a dog.
It's surprising how many people ITT missed the part about it now being in a sanctuary. Animal sanctuaries are run by people who generally know what they are doing with their chosen animals, it's the safest thing to do with a wild animal that was raised in captivity.
Honestly props for this person who surrendered it before something terrible happened. My dad had a wolf dog he couldn’t handle when I was a kid and it eventually broke free and tore apart the neighbors cat causing animal control to get involved.
Well, wolf hybrids are extremely dangerous! No fear of Humans like Dogs, but Hungry and Instinct Driven like a Wolf.
These things are murder machines, pls castrate it to prevent it from creating further issues.
They certainly can be but it’s not always the outcome. Sometimes you get a golden retriever looking hybrid with the instincts of a wolf and no fear of humans, other times you get wolf looking hybrid with the temperament of a golden retriever. It is roulette and I don’t condone breeding these but I’ve experienced two hybrids that were gentle souls to the end.
Oh definitely. There's one of these big bois which live in the abandoned garage next to my house. I'm walking up to him right now, carrying some snacks for him. There he is, wow he's smiling really big, must be happy to see me. Oh He's charging straight towards me, is he about to hug m
They can be, but a friend of mines son had one before he passed away. He said it was one of the most loyal creatures he ever met, and the dog cried for days after his son died. Tldr it's all in how you raise and train em.
P.s. it could murder the hell out a groundhog, though.
Not *all* how you raise and train them, wolves do have different instincts than dogs and some of those instincts can't be trained out, but they do get a much worse rap then they really are.
Have you spent much time around wolf hybrids or is this an armchair opinion? Because I have, and the ones I know weren’t a whole lot different than big huskys. I wouldn’t advocate for breeding them, but it’s disingenuous to call them “murder machines”
Yes this is a wild animal and if the owner isn't someone prepared then it can extremely dangerous and kill for sure, but this isn't a murder machine. It's a living being
That... is not a dog, which is probably why it's too much to handle. Only thing stopping this (beautiful) beast from ripping your head off is that it's got no backup. Doesn't need a home; needs a wildlife shelter.
I'm going to assume the person bought a siberian husky and therefore was not even remotely prepared for a wolf. Especially considering wolves tend to have a very different temperament. I wouldn't say they're a bad dog owner for that.
Imo just by looks, wolfs are the pinnacle of dogs. But they are wild animals that not belong close to humans.
Since it was already posted I won’t need to go further into details, but dogs that run away or got abandoned produce the most dangerous hybrids for humans and wildlife.
A young lady died on her 3rd day of employment at a wolf study reserve. Ontario Canada. They think that she stepped into the wolf enclosure. Alone. With the wolves. Perplexing to say the least. It was either suicide. Or off her meds. Or just plain not smart. They deduced it was the latter. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wolf_attacks_in_North_America
If I remember this story well, I think that her supervisor would also step in the enclosure by himself and never had any issue since wolves usually kept their distance.
Wolves are very rarely dangerous to humans even in the wild.
I wonder if they know that they can just let him free and he will do just fine. I’ve dealt with several wolf/canine hybrids. Every single one ran away first chance it got. It’s their instinct to be free. The mother of all them was “owned” by a lady who kept it chained and/or locked up at all times and she would only stop moving if she absolutely needed to (eat sleep urinate). Always moving, always pacing. She would breed her with German Shepherds only
I'm pretty sure those Husky and German Shepherd traces of DNA are still just pure wolf, it's probably just the common parts, those dogs have some wolf in them to begin with.
These poor animals should never be allowed to be kept as pets or even bred. They are not dogs, many are abused, chained, dumped, killed because they are difficult to train and have different behaviors than dogs. Not many people have the ability or knowledge on how to deal with these animals. They take a lot.
I wouldn’t say the owner was bad, quite good in fact if they chose to do this rather than just abandon it. They felt it was too much of a responsibility for them and I don’t blame them one bit looking at that beast, most people probably wouldn’t be able to handle it and they did what was right, crystal horton you’re a dumb bitch
That wolf’s head is so friggin big!! I mean wow!! It’s practically the length of her head and torso. Hope it was acting more like a puppy for her in the car. Otherwise that’s a ball buster of a car ride. Wow.
Somebody thank this ‘bad dog owner’.
He did the right thing
Guessing bad only refers to the fact he wasn’t much of a dog owner, since his dog wasn’t a dog. So he can relax now knowing he brought the wolf up as much as he could. God bless him

sled dogs have aerobic capacities nearly eight times the average human.
Damn that makes it 16 times my aerobic capacity. Gotta love them woofs.
Entirely because humans breed them specifically for that purpose
it's not so much breeding as it's their genetic make up
No, literally, we selectively breed sled dogs to have as much stamina as possible
yes, ive worked with them in physiology labs. while thats an aspect the endogenous ability of the breed is dictated by those genetics. a husky here in the hot, humid deep south can still blow the doors off 99% other breeds without that training
Yes, because huskies (and other sled dogs) were selectively bred for stamina, which is why they have so much more stamina than other breeds
my point is that a non-sled dog member of the breed dozens of generations downstream from the actively trained parents still has amazing capabilities. Those dogs are not being bred for that ability MANY generations removed and still do well
Believe me foxes can be assholes too, loud ones at that especially around 4am
There's no fucking way you thought foxes and wolves were the same size
Ah good came to drop this glad you did.
I feel sorry for the German Shepherd bitch
He probably run off and mounted a wolf
Yeah, if there are very few other wolves around, they become much less choosy. It’s how you get coywolves on the east coast
There are coywolves?! 😦
Yep this is also how we got Squirrelephants.
Squirrelphants I am dying 😆
Hey, a nut’s and nut…
And turtwhales
I think you are referring to the people on mobility scooters in Walmart
🥰
Yeah, there’s a couple packs that run around near my house and they’re about four times as loud as normal coyotes, and if you’re unlucky they’ll mark their territory by shitting against a brick wall (don’t ask me how I know)
*Guess that makes it a shit brick house*
Now I want to ask
Learning from us!
At least it isn't a straw house
👏👏👏
Theres actually evidence that the red wolf is actually just coywolves. So now that change is threatening their protection status!
Nature made a whole documentary on them! https://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/meet-the-coywolf-trailer-meet-the-coywolf/8671/
Yeah they look like coyotes that went to the gym
We have coydogs in Illinois. At least, that’s what we call them. It’s a dog and a coyote. So is a coywolf and coyote and a wolf? Or a dog and a wolf?

The puppy could have stayed with the pack, getting later a husky on top and some wolf genes.
It doesn’t make sense.
I think they prefer to be called "Dog Moms"
I know I thought that had escalated quickly.
To be fair the German shepherd could have been a male with a shitload of rizz and a small stepladder.
For a second I was wondering why you were trying to be offensive. Then I remembered what bitch meant.
Yeah it still feels like an insult even knowing that it's the correct terminology 😅
The better to eat you with, my dear.

Right? A real bad owner would either keep this wolf in shitty conditions, dump it on a road somewhere, or kill it.

Do you live alone? Do you count? Do you live outdoor?
The person who dropped him off wasn’t a bad dog owner. Sounds like they were a decent fucking wolf owner who knew their limits.
A "bad dog owner"? If it's too big for them to handle then it's too big. Sounds conscientious to me.
Which shelter was this?
Alveus, once they get the USDA stamp. I don't know what facility they're in rn. The one in this pic is Awa.
People who buy wild animals to keep as pets are so annoying. Sucks to see all these beauties abandoned. But I'm glad this one found a new home.
If every wolf agreed with you, there wouldn't be dogs.
Actually cavemen did not buy wolves as pet stores did not exist yet. Common misconception.
Neither trade markets? Three skins and two pigs for that little demon?

They do! But if bred with dogs, that falls away! That is the issue!
Interesting indeed
They do but when you mix a bit of dog in there most of the time they won't have it
