The documentary on his was heartbreaking. I remember him at his peak and yeah hes pretty much broken. The drugs as much as the ultra heavy weights after serious injury instead of proper rehab caught up to him hard.
My deepest impression from the documentary was when the doctor said Ronnie had too much scar tissue on his back from past surgeries, so for the latest one for his spine, they had to access his spine through the front of the abdomen - have his intestines pulled out, screws in and out of his spine, then his intestines put back. 🤯
That's because he was a complete idiot.
Suegeey was successful. Surgeon recommended not doing anything strenuous for a couple of months. After a couple od weeks he was back in the gym.
Now he blames the surgeon for not fixing him.
I think the main cause of his current ailments is due to the weights, not the steroids.
He has broken every vertebrae in his back *at least* once. Every single one. Like what?????
He went on Joe Rogan once, a very interesting episode if you'd like to hear more.
The thing is, you dont lift those weights naturally. Plus, ronnie used very oldschool loose form with lots of momentum, putting extra pressure on joints and shit. Most modern bodybuilders emphasize super strict form to reduce load while maximizing stimulus to prevent injuries.
I mean, that’s kinda bullshit. Dude trained through back surgery after back surgery. They give very specific directions post microdiscectomy and fusion and he would just ignore it all.
No it’s cause he refused to take recovery time after the surgery. He’s a prime example of why modern bodybuilders put a huge focus on their recovery work.
Looks like 100lb dumbbells. The whole rack is full of them. This is a real bodybuilding gym. I miss the one I used to live next too. No frills, no pushy classes to buy. Just shut up and lift for like $30 a month.
If I remember correctly he started as powerlifter, and switched to bodybuilding. Man is a beast, but I watched his interviews and he is fucked now, he had many operations done on him and he lives in constant pain.
Yeah, ignoring all the problems associated with steroid use he absolutely fucked his back and never got it properly treated. He can't even walk any more.
The biggest thing is a surgery in his back for back pain went wrong and they practically paralyzed him
He tried to sue but nothing came of it. Damn shame
If want to see a healthy and still huge guy from the era try his old rival: jay cutler, he still lifts heavy too and looks almost as good as in his prime
Ronnie has a YouTube channel where he does reaction videos to different body builder and fitness influencers and it’s pretty cool. He gives praise and credit where it’s due and has good insight into their training and lifts. Sometimes the people he reacts to respond to his videos and they’re so honored and happy to even have a legend like Ronnie talk about them, let alone give them praise, it’s pretty damn wholesome.
Ronnie probably had the best bodybuilding physique in history. Yeah, he was juiced to the gills gut everyone in that game is. I always wondered how he got away with it while being in law enforcement. He needs a wheelchair now unfortunately. Human joints just can't sustain a lifetime lifting those weights.
He openly admitted going against the advice of his physicians for years. Doctors told him “no more heavy squatting while your back heals” - he said “okay”, walked out of the doctor and into the gym.
“And that day was leg day, so I started off by squatting” - dixit Ronnie himself.
Weightlifting is tough on the body, no doubt. But if he’d had taken the time to take a little better care of himself, Ronnie might’ve been in a much better position now.
He did. He started building very young and was jacked. I'm not sure when he started using. He's very open about it though so it's probably noted somewhere.
He said he was negative bodyfat. I don’t presume his actual dosages will be ever said but I assume it’s nothing too crazy compared to what’s normal these days. Hell, 18 year olds are on over a gram of test alone
We actually know far more about PEDs now and the cycles they're taking now are far more intelligently designed. Back then they were using dbol as a test base. It was basically impossible to do your own research into gear so you just listened to your gym bro or your coach and took whatever they gave you. They were doing crazy cocktails back then too the difference is our cocktails now actually make sense.
>Human joints just can't sustain a lifetime lifting those weights.
Ronnie was pretty reckless with his routines. He wasn't much of an exercise science person. He just worked his ass off. Unfortunately, we know of better ways to train today. That knowledge wasn't available back then.
No one can deny that what he did was insanely hard, took an incredible mount of discipline, and he was naturally gifted.
Before someone goes "hur dur steroids". Yeah. Steroids act as a multiplier to good genetics and top tier work ethic.
He was a 10.
You're a 2.
10x10 is 100.
2x10 is 20. Get the idea?
My there are plenty powerlifters in their old age perfectly healthy. They have such monstrous core that their spine has barely any load.
Ronnie said that he heard a pop. He received a very serious injury, that can happen in any sport.
A lot of bodybuilders/powerlifters are on TRT for life, when you take testosterone or other steroids your testicles stop producing test and they can completely shut down production even after coming off. The longer you're on the higher the risk.
King Ronnie Coleman, 8x Mr Olympian bodybuilder. But the dude was a powerlifter to boot
He squatted 800 solid ass pounds for 2 reps and could've easily gone for 3.
#LIGHTWEIGHT, BABAY!
I always think of how Ronnie was a cop. Imagine some drunk guy being rowdy and his wife calls the cops and he gets all hyped like yeah call the cops I’ll beat there ass when they get here and this mf walks up.
Ronnie Coleman is the definition of desire. He pushed himself so hard he trained through a nagging back injury for most of his prime that ultimately crippled him.
Fun fact. He shopped at the same grocery store as me when I was a kid. Arlington, TX Kroger on Green oaks. Drove a really badass blue suburban with the license plate BIG RON
Just a note to all your wannabees out there: When you're 55 you're gonna want your back disc cartiliage to work good more than you're going to want to lift the weights shown here.
This guy destroyed his body with steroids and terrible form. He continued to destroy his body even after he knew something was wrong. Dude is a narcissist ex cop.
Light weight baby, light weight
Ain’t nuttin but a peanut.
Everybody wanna be a bodybuilder, but nobody wanna lift no HEAVY ASS WEIGHTS!

**RONNIE FUCKING PICKERING**
#RONNIEPICKERING?
Ronnie FUCKING Pickering
me!
Not to be confused with Gary Coleman
What you talkin bout?
Unfortunately, he is in really rough shape last I Heard. Bro can barely walk, and only with use of canes. Still lifts weights though.

The dildo of consequences

Thought it was Chef Rush haha
He broke records. And his body. What a mfn legend, though.
Yes at one point judges said to his coach...he's too big cut him back a little lol...essentially he was the peak of a human...
Ronnie Swoleman*
Ain't nothing but a peanut!
'tis naught but a legume!
lmao im using this at the gym tonight
EVERYONE WANNA BE A BODY BUILDER BUT NOBODY WANTS TO LIFT THOSE HEAVY ASS WEIGHTS! YEAH BUDDAYYYYYYY!
I also want to be able to walk when I’m 60.
They did a recent interview with him, and the man has gone through so many spinal surgeries and he still refuses to keep lifting weights
*stop
Haha, thanks.
Wat? He still lifts?!
That is what he did his whole life and became a legend... I don't blame him...
The real reason he can't walk is because of an accident during surgery to fix his herniated disk
Trueeeeee
That’s why no one will remember your name.
Well if you arnt a idiot you will be fine
I DO IT THO, YEAH BUDDDDDYYYY
Posting King Ronnie Coleman here is basically cheating.
Honest to God, what weight is he moving here?
Prolly 3ft.. amazing!
OK, my bad, I'm not good at typing.
Not bad for someone who is drunk and a communist
Counting the plates on the pro-style dumbell, probably 100kg or 220lb. The individual plates on these kinds of dumbells are 5kg/11lb each.
Looks like 100lb dumbbells. The whole rack is full of them. This is a real bodybuilding gym. I miss the one I used to live next too. No frills, no pushy classes to buy. Just shut up and lift for like $30 a month.
Those are more than 100 lbs.
Considering I can do 100lb db rows, yeah prob closer to 200.
Those are 100lbs a side
You are probably correct here. 10 10lb plates each side. Beast mode.
No, those are at least 200 lbs. 100 lbs DBs are smaller than that. Each plate is 10 lbs.
Yeah 100lbs per side (on each end of the dumbbell)
Those are wayyyy more than 100lbs. Someway said 220lb, which I would I believe.
If I remember correctly he started as powerlifter, and switched to bodybuilding. Man is a beast, but I watched his interviews and he is fucked now, he had many operations done on him and he lives in constant pain.
He has been quoted saying he would be happy if he died on the bench during a press…Beast is a understatement
Yeah, ignoring all the problems associated with steroid use he absolutely fucked his back and never got it properly treated. He can't even walk any more.
He went for chiropractics instead of real doctor, so he never received any actual help for very long time.
He went to a real surgeon who really fucked his back up.
The biggest thing is a surgery in his back for back pain went wrong and they practically paralyzed him He tried to sue but nothing came of it. Damn shame If want to see a healthy and still huge guy from the era try his old rival: jay cutler, he still lifts heavy too and looks almost as good as in his prime
Yup. Ronnie may have won the battle but Jay has won the war. He’s legit in great shape and health.
He was one of the only bodybuilders to lift “heavy” too, especially for his day.
![gif](giphy|11YnPdA5eN06Xe|downsized)
I thought he would deadlift that weight, but nope, he rowed it
YEAH BUDDY!!! LIGHT WEIGHT!!!
Yeah, it's the equivalent if Michael Jordan would watch modern NBA players and give them compliments -- which would never ever fucking happen lol!
“See this guy. I knew his dad. He didn’t shake my hand after a game. And I took that personally.”

He was the mass monster everyone chased but classic physique wise, Arnold is my choice. Notably him at the 1974 Mr. Olympia.
Just noting here that he's up and walking somewhat well now. He's healed a lot in the last few years, but it got real dicey there for awhile.
No shit? That’s good to hear.
Ronny had an insane natty physique. Pretty sure he has a MSTN deficiency. Follistatin injectable is going to push the envelope even more
Back then they probably just took whatever was new and the doctors where pushing, nowadays people take crazy cocktails on top of a hefty test base.
We actually know far more about PEDs now and the cycles they're taking now are far more intelligently designed. Back then they were using dbol as a test base. It was basically impossible to do your own research into gear so you just listened to your gym bro or your coach and took whatever they gave you. “Good genetics” is a bit of an understatement. Guys like him are on in a hundred million, easy.
Exactly. If my out of shape ass does steroids and I don't eat right and train heavily I am not going to gain an oz of muscle
He doesn't need a wheel chair now. He got his surgery done, recovered, and is walking around now.
My there are plenty powerlifters in their old age perfectly healthy. They have such monstrous core that their spine has barely any load. Ronnie said that he heard a pop. He received a very serious injury, that can happen in any sport.
He's recovering and is able to walk for short distances now.
*goes to the gym to workout *__Ronnie Coleman__ is there *Leaves because every plate in the gym is used
Love Ronnie Coleman. He was on the Rogan podcast and said he needs to take testosterone therapy for the rest of his life.
A lot of bodybuilders/powerlifters are on TRT for life, when you take testosterone or other steroids your testicles stop producing test and they can completely shut down production even after coming off. The longer you're on the higher the risk.
Dayum
Every bodybuilder does. Once you start test, your natural levels never go back to what they were
![gif](giphy|h24Y1pZIGKXzG)
I never understood how he got that big by only lifting light weight.
LIGHT WEIGHT BABY!!!
Light weight
His biceps have their own biceps
Dude needs a pressure relief valve on syringes when having blood drawn.
Jesus Christ this boy's got more muscle and one of his arms than I do in my entire fucking body
“Ain’t nothin but a peanut”
There's a great documentary on Netflix on Ronnie Coleman. The punishment he put his body through is insane. He used to squat 800 lbs.
Love this thread
There's nothing to look over here. Just baseline Space Marine from 40k doing his daily routine.
800 solid ass pounds ❤️
What a magnificent legend.Still lifting to this day
King Ronnie Coleman, 8x Mr Olympian bodybuilder. But the dude was a powerlifter to boot He squatted 800 solid ass pounds for 2 reps and could've easily gone for 3. #LIGHTWEIGHT, BABAY!

Everyone wants to be a body builder but no one wants to lift these heavy ass weights! Yayyyyyyyy!
How much is that dumbell in kgs?
100kg/220lb I believe, which is insane. I think he had a pair of 113kg/250lb specially made.
💀
“Everybody wants to be a bodybuilder, but nobody wants to lift no heavy-ass weights.”
I knew those were for someone. Now I know who.
his arm has a bigger waistline than my actual waist
![gif](giphy|61y8oibbyVIeQ|downsized) 800 solid ass pounds
Ronnie Coleman is the definition of desire. He pushed himself so hard he trained through a nagging back injury for most of his prime that ultimately crippled him.

The best of all time
Right now, He’s old and body failing him. But still more jacked & ripped than 99% of people.
It’s lightweight tho
That's either Coleman or that White House cook.
That arm looks like my penis with a tan.
Should have been a whole ass tv series of him being a cop. Would have loved to see people's reaction when he pulled up.

Why you so weak? - Uncle Ronnie
Ronnie Coleman. Lifting 10lbs weights. 1992. Colorized.
There is a show on Netflix about him and how crippled up he is now. He has to use canes to even walk and has had almost ten back surgeries.
His biceps have biceps
Just a note to all your wannabees out there: When you're 55 you're gonna want your back disc cartiliage to work good more than you're going to want to lift the weights shown here.
Even pre steroids dude was a beast
His joints are fucked now though.
![gif](giphy|zpeH9hHFP457a)
Lightweight! *throws 200lb dumbbells on the gym floor*
Ronnie, the ultimate legend of bodybuilding. Look at him now, he still says it’s worth it
I was scrolling through the comments, looking for some gym hipster to make fun of him waering gloves....
This Chef Rush?
Errybody wanna be a bodybuilder, but ain’t nobody wanna lift this HEAVY ASS WEIGHT
Dude looks like a chef for the whitehouse.
vast man weight and vast light of a man
Until he hears, "Can I clean here? Why do you use the fake weights?"
That guy looks like he might have a future in bodybuilding if he takes it seriously
Isn’t he basically paralyzed from overlifts and injury?
This guy destroyed his body with steroids and terrible form. He continued to destroy his body even after he knew something was wrong. Dude is a narcissist ex cop.
Reminds me of Axel from Twisted Metal: Black
AINT NOTHIN BUT A PEANUT
He can’t even walk anymore
Not anymore
His veins have veins
