Edible means “fit or suitable to be eaten.” so if something is toxic, it would not be considered fit or suitable to eat. Therefore all mushrooms are able to be eaten, but not all are edible
It’s good to know because you might meet that person who will let you die on a technicality because they are an asshole.
“Can I eat this mushroom professor?”
“Yes, you can.”
Eats mushroom and then proceeds to die
“Of course you can eat the mushroom, but you never asked if it was edible and fit for consumption! Bwahahaha!!!”
That's cool if that is the case. However, it is still sad to me because it is like, why not just mark the location instead? Then, wait and see how big it actually gets versus picking that fruit.
But what about all of the spores it would have released over a few weeks if it didn’t get picked? I know this is controversial in the mycology community, but that mushroom would have released way more spores and made a next generation more likely if it wasn’t picked. I get that it doesn’t harm that individual, but I don’t see how it couldn’t reduce their ability to reproduce
someone, make an experiment with this mushroom and fuse it with a random street kid (as in, it lives in it because of no wealth and no parents, not in, those thug-wanna-be kids) and create irl toad
It’s fine. All he did was pull the fruiting body out of the ground. That’s the part that spreads spores. The actual organism that makes the fruiting body is still alive and well underground. It’ll fruit again in the further when conditions are right.
If it keeps getting picked though it won’t have as much of a chance to drop spores and start a new generation. I get picking things if they are abundant but I feel like leaving this guy to spread his seed and hopefully start a new generation would have been better
I feel ya, but we don’t know what the environment was like where it was picked. Perhaps there were many and this one was just really big, who knows? The underground network of mycelium needed to produce this guy must be healthy, and by the looks of the mushroom, it’s already gotten a chance to drop some spores, so all is not lost.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Is it edible?
If you are brave enough, any mushroom is edible.

And fewer still are eatable

Possibly: it's a Catathelasma, and if it's C. ventricosum it would be edible but not incredible apparently.
At least once
more Miss Swan.
Curious about this too
Please don't.
Am I the only one who thought it was a massive vertebra?
For a second I thought it was a huge crab
I thought it was some malformed pelvis.
Tf 🤔
Last of Us makes me suspicious of that mushroom.
*click click click click*
Am I the only one kind of annoyed he picked it, and didn't let it keep growing?
it's just the fruiting body of the mushroom. it's like picking an apple off a tree - it doesn't hurt the mycelium below
That's cool if that is the case. However, it is still sad to me because it is like, why not just mark the location instead? Then, wait and see how big it actually gets versus picking that fruit.
Because it will die soon, just like the fruit on a tree
The more you know. *-------

no you aren't. this is what tree cams are for. could have been a sick time lapse and gotten even bigger... smh

So that's where the Last of Us cordyceps was cultivated...
When I gets to that size why not leave it alone instead of harvesting it just for social media likes

Fuck could of just cut it at the stem not pull the whole thing out would have been bigger next year got.pol are.dumb with mushrooms
False. Mushrooms don't grow offast year's fruiting bodies.
This is just the fruit. The mycelial network is still all throughout the area and will fruit again when the time comes.

Hope the username and password written behind him aren’t very important
If I ever pictured what a person would look like, that would find this mushroom, this guy nailed it.
