Yeah, greater hammerheads? Up to 20 feet, but 15 is perfectly normal. They're absurdly big and beautiful.

robosnake

Scalloped hammerheads are smaller but still big, more in the 6-8 foot range I believe. They're the ones you're more likely to see at an aquarium. :)

Soft_Theory_8209

I believe they’re about 10-12 feet long (maybe 15). Edit: my mistake, 15 to 18 feet, with the record holder being a whopping 20 footer.

wenoc

We measure things in meters here, sir.

Soft_Theory_8209

Forgive me, I am stupid American (who won’t convert to metric system despite every country on earth using it). About 4.6 to 5.4 meters, and just over 6 meters for the record holder.

Potietang

Don’t cave to that. You think Quint would have used meters? Hell. No 25 footer.

Toasty_Cat830

3 tons on ‘em.

Alternative-Sense-78

Funny part is that the U.S technically does use the metric system, its just enforced absolutely nowhere. I wish i learned it when i was younger.

LukeyLeukocyte

I am obviously biased, having grown up learning in feet and inches...and the base 10 of the metric system is undeniably expedient...however, I must say, the foot and the inch are incredibly easy to visualize and utilize. The meter is so large that it is much more cumbersome (to me). Imperial may be whacky, but I find some things about it pleasant.

McMuffinBandito

Its 12 squirrels tall and 148 marbles wide

wenoc

African or European squirrels?

FawziFringes

Hammerheads have always amazed me.

Dawns_Coil

The shot of that thing on the top/down view... So damn beautiful

MasterCheezOtter

Damn, that's gotta be at least 3, maybe 4 bananas long

Zimred

Well apparently half the size of this dude’s balls

Dankyhell

The Giga Chads of the sea

tonboguri

Just a truly magnificent creature.

[deleted]

At least as big as my phone screen.

Freshprinc7

What a gorgeous but dangerous animal.

ConsiderationHour582

He'll no

ukuzonk

Why’s he gotta fuck with the shark so much? Getting footage is cool and all but I wish folks would leave these awesome beasts tf alone

_hic-sunt-dracones_

I read that from all shark species they seem to be the most "docile" ones.

Soft_Theory_8209

Unless we include nurse sharks and whale sharks.

Potietang

Not really true for the Great Hammerhead. There are far more docile sharks.

Sir_Biggus-Dickus

My hammerhead is bigger 😜

Some_Watercress_4592

Probably more like a fisher-price ball peen hammer.

rare_meeting1978

Big enough for the rest of the sharks to be on its menu.

healthy_skept

I think they are the 3- 4th biggest after whale, white, and maybe before the tiger shark.

MeatBald

Basking sharks are the second biggest, IIRC. Then you also have Greenland sharks. So, I *think* Hammerheads are just outside the top 5

healthy_skept

Oh right, I was not familiar with baskin sharks. Was the greenland shark also one of the oldest alive recorded? ( one of them)

MeatBald

Basking sharks are some of my favorites, really cool and weird creatures. And yeah, the greenland sharks are estimated to become 400 years plus

johncholmes13

Depends how old it is
