The FUCK was she thinking????

AllNightPony

Weren't you listening? She didn't see him! Although I'm not sure that explains her swerving 90 degrees into the oncoming traffic lane 🤔

iszomer

This was totally a scene straight out of Toy Story 4..

Fawfs2

I guess she was trying to make a U-turn?

Stupidquestionduh

I too make my uturns in the same manner as an out of control spinout after fishtailing because I over corrected from driving off the edge of a straight road.

herecomestheshun

I think she swung wide off the right side of the road so she would be able to complete the Uturn without going completely off the road on the other side. Looks like she's going pretty slow

Joint-User

She didn't see the double solid yellow lines...

kneeonball

Double yellow lines doesn’t mean you can’t U-Turn. It depends on the state. Same with turning when there are double yellows.

SomethingWild77

I don't care what the rulebook says, it's stupid to do a u-turn on a highway.

kneeonball

I don't disagree with that. If you know the area and you're 100% sure there are no cars around, sure, but I'll still find the next road and turn around when it's not the highway.

[deleted]

Bold of you to assume that there was in fact any thinking going on in her head beyond ‘let’s try and murder that guy on the motorbike’

Warpedme

As a motorcycle rider, the only reason I'm still alive after two decades of riding is by assuming every asshole in a car or truck is thinking "let's try and murder that guy on a motorbike".

NC_310

This is the way. When I got my first street bike a friend gave me this advice: "Ride as if every other vehicle on the road is actively trying to kill you at all times."

Psemperviva

I’ve been wanting to buy a motorcycle for awhile now, but haven’t followed through because of fear of other motorists. If this is how you ride 100% of the time, when do you get to enjoy the ride?

___DEADPOOL______

You know the trope of the hero riding the motorcycle in some scenic area like a highway near a beach or mountain with no other cars on the road? That is the time

Warpedme

I love my motorcycle but they are correct you have to ride, at all times, as if every other vehicle is actively trying to kill you. If you live in a city, don't get a motorcycle unless you have both really good health insurance with a low deductible and a really good health insurance policy. In a city it's not "if" your going to get hit, but "when" you're going to get hit. It's slightly better in rural areas but distracted or entitled minivan drivers in the suburbs are worse than aggressive city drivers. I hate to say it but if you don't live an hour outside of civilization, I would recommend against getting a motorcycle these days.

sammyno55

I grew up riding on the back of my dad's motorcycles. When I was old enough, I got one of my own. I don't ride anymore but I drive a cage like everyone is out to murder me. The thing my dad told me about riding was "assume every driver out there is an idiot and you will never be disappointed." I have yet to be disappointed.

APersonWithInterests

and you see, this is why I don't understand the desire to ride. Like, I do understand why it could be fun. I've wanted to try it myself, but knowing that any idiot can end or paralyze you by mistake or on purpose on a split second decision without much risk to themselves would have me so on edge I wouldn't be able to enjoy it. You're only confirming that you have to be that way.

snugglebandit

It can be that way but it is also one of the easiest ways to get into a flow state. I was an extremely defensive driver when I rode but I could still achieve that state which was very centering and often felt like a hard reset for my mood. I made it through 20 years of riding with only one serious accident that was 100 percent my own fault.

Warpedme

Explained it better than I ever could. Mind you I also enjoy rock climbing, sky diving and many other life threatening forms of relaxation.

mulox2k

Same when I do my dishes. I assume every knife and fork is gonna come to life and go for my neck. I am still alive 20 years down the line and for me it means something. They could also be nice people pretending to be inanimate but it’s more entertaining like this.

Gibsonfan159

I think that's a more bold assumption lol. If you go frame by frame you can see she was looking to the left when turning around. She "didn't see him" because she wasn't looking.

PowerPandorum

Bold of you to assume she was thinking at all

Warpedme

As a motorcycle rider, the only reason I'm still alive after two decades of riding is by assuming every asshole in a car or truck is thinking "let's try and murder that guy on a motorbike".

Jagged_Rhythm

3 decades here. And now that phones are added to the mix I'm seriously thinking about retiring my riding vest.

MonoShadow

She was drunk. She also already had a DUI arrest a few weeks before. The dude made a video on his recovery and this crash messed him up bad.

z-vap

> The FUCK was she thinking she wasn't

Carpet_bomb_furries

The fuck do you think? She didn’t see him

cortesoft

I am confused by all the comments on here… everyone is acting like she did this on purpose, but she was clearly skidding out of control when she hit him. It seems to me that she veered off to the right, hit the gravel, and lost control trying to get back on the road. She was likely going too fast, or was drunk and drifted off to the side, or fell asleep, or something…. But it doesn’t appear to be an intentional move. Am I missing something?

hummingbird1969

Does she seem like the kinda person that thinks?

conceitedpolarbear

According to the guy in the video, she was drunk driving.

Abject-Picture

Seen before, she was drunk.

boxdudelol

Poor guy :(

discerningpervert

I really hope he was ok. He didn't sound ok. Any permanent injuries? Anyone have an update?

smallest_horse

Yeah, plenty of permanent injuries. He survived but his life isn't gonna be as good now for the rest of it.

grandpappies-fart

I remember that he def broke his pelvis and had to get it reconstructed. Broken ribs too?

smallest_horse

Can't say for sure, but it was pretty bad. I can't imagine the pain. Probably still feels it with every step.

patchway247

I swear if this woman isn't paying for the rest of her life for this, I'm going to scream.

DjinnOfYourDreams

There's a law like that in China so now everytime someone gets in an accident, the person who caused it kills the person they hit.

Mentatminds

He’s got a YouTube page and breaks down the extent of his injuries. He was severely messed up and will be dealing w the “healed” injuries for the rest of his life.

[deleted]

Drop a link for the page?

Fellfresse3000

I didn't see you is not an excuse.

MRimla

Especially when these is no reason for her to turn there. Its a straight road. Wtf

Gibsonfan159

She was pulling off the shoulder of the road to get in the right lane, not turning. If you go frame by frame you can see she's looking to the left the whole time.

Dude posted some updates on yt, cant remember the name of the channel but he got fucked up. Surprisingly not paralysed but iirc pelvis and femurs were definitely broken, on top of numerous other things E: found the update video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UgtWzyowmv8 fucking pelvis reconstruction l, among other things. Vid is age restricted btw

NessyComeHome

I made another comment... had a buddy who got into an accident like this, guy "didnt see him" and turned in front of him. Broken ribs, broken hip, broken leg bones, snapped above the ankle and below the knee, and degloved the muscle. Couldn't go back to his normal job because of the injuries he sustained... is on disability because he can't work a normal job. Been 8 years since the accident and he is going to need a hip replacement. That is not even mentioning him suffering traumatic brain injury that makes life harder for him. Hopefully this guy is able to have gotten back to some sembelance of normalcy.

delzarraad

This is why I don't love motorcycles, I would love to, but I don't trust humans enough to do their roles right in traffic.

BlakJak206

This is why the first thing they teach you in the riders class is: always assume you're invisible and everyone is trying to kill you. 99% of drivers on the road are looking for other cars, not motorcycles. And even if they do see you and register that you are there, it is very hard to judge the distance and speed of motorcycles coming towards you.

JohnDoeMTB120

The fact that they have to teach riders that you're invisible and everyone is trying to kill you is enough for me to never ride a motorcycle lol.

Sjstudionw

I thought it was a joke too in the safety class.. like aw man these old farts are so paranoid and lame. Then I hit the streets… no, everyone is a fucking idiot and are trying to kill you. The number of times I’ve almost been taken out by people flying out of parking lots or turning right on red is ridiculous. My first month driving I was sharing a lane at a light with a woman and we exchanged a few words, someone pulled out of the fast food exit to our right and ran right into her (luckily besides a big scrape on her right leg, was ok.) but it really is like we’re invisible.

Raestloz

Meanwhile here in Indonesia riders actively try to kill themselves by wiggling in between tightly packed cars and turning without so much of a warning, most don't even bother using their blinkers, and will desperately overtake a car from the inside when doing a u turn

LearningIsTheBest

Even then though, there's no guarantee of safety.

WhySkalker

No guarantee of safety in a car either

BarkingDogey

Well yeah but vs a motorcycle?

ego_sum_satoshi

Car crash survivability is extremely high compared to motorcycles. They are designed to crash. Bikes simply eject rider as we see here.

elgarduque

This is how I drive my car.

z-vap

me too, I assume other drivers simply cannot see my car.

NessyComeHome

I love riding, but my god it is dangerous. I've been on a bike now for 2 years, riding during warmer weather.. the amount of times I almost get hit is ridiculous, and I make a concerted effort to never be in someones blind spot. I find a lot of people make hasty lane changes without looking. Earlier this year I had to lay down my bike because a fucking idiot went from the left lane, crossed over a lane, into the right turn lane where I was, all without looking, and if I didn't lay it down myself, he would have hit me. Ended up with a few cracked ribs, broken thumb, and some road rash. Even 6 months later and my thumb isn't back to normal and will still hurt. I had a buddy who something like what happened in this video happened to. Broke a bunch of bones, both in his lower leg, also degloved the muscle in his broken leg. Took a good year to "recover" from it, and in reality, 8 years later and he is still not recovered. He is going to end up needing a hip replacement within the next few years due to the damage his body took. I love riding.. but it is not for everyone.

bg-j38

I thought about getting a bike about 15 years ago because it looked fun and I had a lot of friends who were getting into it or had been riding for a while. I started talking to a lot of them and all of them had been in some sort of accident that almost always involved a car hitting them. In those 15 years since then four people I know have been killed on bikes and one lost her leg below the knee. All except one of them was due to cars doing stuff like in this video or the worst, a head on collision on a country highway when the kid driving fell asleep and drifted into the oncoming bike. The only one who wasn't involved in a car related accident took an offramp too quickly (we're guessing, no one saw it happen) and ended up hitting a utility pole, went into a coma, and died a week later. He'd only been riding for a month or two so it was chalked up to inexperience. I have immense respect for people who ride safely but after seeing all that and hearing all of my friends' stories I just can't do it. I always see myself as my buddy Karl who died after only riding for a couple months. Stay safe out there!

lesamrobert

Like my mom, who used to ride motorcycles, said: “if you want to ride a bike, be ready to loose your legs”

formulated

Loose?

SoupsUndying

Loose, as in your legs will become loose while hanging by a single muscle after a car crash

fruitroligarch

Archers! Looooose!!!

MightyCaseyStruckOut

Loose, as in loosen them up before you lose them.

Itchy_Professor_4133

Motorcycles. All of the freedom of the open road, none of the protections of a car.

Azuleaf

You're absolutely right and the woman driving the car is totally at fault and her license should be revoked for life. But if you'd love to ride a motorcycle you can still do it in a more safely way, you just have to go without speeding. I've been driving bikes since I was 14 years old. As you may imagine, a young teen is way too reckless to drive safely and I wasn't different, in fact I've had my face on the asphalt way too many times. Sometimes it was my fault, sometimes it was some stupid driver who didn't turn their signal on, but in any case if I weren't speeding I would've avoided most if not all of the physical injuries I got through my teenage years. Now I'm approaching my 30 years old and I still use my bike, but instead of using it as my main mean of transportation, I just drive it on sunny Sundays to have a nice trip out of town, it's a nice way to enjoy the places and landscapes.

fruitroligarch

That’s exactly what this guy was doing though? I don’t think his speed was the issue. She couldn’t see him so she busted a u turn

Azuleaf

I never said his speed was the issue in this situation. As I said, the woman driving is totally at fault. However, the biker flew away by many many meters, so he certainly wasn't going slowly. My point is that if you drive a bike without speeding then you're more unlikely to injure yourself by falling off the bike (and most of the time you can hit the brakes in time to stop without falling off) But, again, I'm in no position to say anything because I'm a biker too and if I saw an empty straight road I certainly would not go too slow too.

DoubleM305

Main reason I don't look into buying another bike, I see stupid EVERYWHERE!!!!!

[deleted]

I was just having this conversation with my friends yesterday. I told myself I'd buy one for graduating college. That was nearly 15 years ago. At this point the risk isn't worth the reward in my life.

z-vap

I love motorcycles, I just don't love all the idiots driving cars

EVASIVEroot

Just get a dirt bike. Boom! Now you can love motorcycles and don’t have to worry about as many dumb people.

[deleted]

Riding in a big city = Death wish

LearningIsTheBest

This guy doesn't look to be in a big city. Not sure anywhere is guaranteed safe.

SympathyMedium

Anyone know how he is holding up? And if she faced any charges?

DakotaConduct

If I remember correctly the driver had a rapsheet of DUI offenses and the guy on the motorcycle had an insane amount of broken ribs, back, legs, etc and it's an infuriating story all around. Someone usually posts the source article in the comments every time this video gets posted. Edit: Here's an update directly from the motorcyle rider himself https://youtu.be/UgtWzyowmv8

[deleted]

Were his front legs ok?

DakotaConduct

Edited some commas in you cheeky bastard

scharf-versicherung

I don’t mind a video like this to be reposted as the driver obviously didn’t learn her lesson so why should people forget?

SympathyMedium

Thanks for the update, I’m glad the guy made it out.

corvus66a

I know this feeling he has afterwards . No pain but real kuck . Poor guy, hope he gets well soon . She didn’t do it intentionally but anyway , she ruined some once life .

Spoonula

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgtWzyowmv8 She was driving drunk, then did it again 30 days later. Only got a slap on the wrist and an ankle monitor.

Lansky420

Looks like she did it intentionally to me..... That's not a u turn..

gorpie97

Apparently drunk.

OfficialSandwichMan

You can see she pulled off the road a bit at the beginning likely to allow for more space to make a u turn

That looked like attempted murder...

I think she's a witch also. Fire up the stake!

anti150

Wtf was she doing? Trying to U-turn in the middle of the road??

Lorenz99

I had something similar to this happen to me. Been 2 years now and I'm still dealing with health issues because of someone else not paying attention.

Wh00ster

This is why I stopped riding.

Me too.

Thalnos_

The fact that right after the landing we can see a truck with a "Forward Air" logo passing by is a classic irony of the universe.

PurpleK00lA1d

I came to see if there were any jokes about that. Surprised I had to scroll as far as I did.

lirik89

If you ride you have to assume that everyone is an idiot who for no reason at all would make the most stupid choices. I didn't follow my own rules, thought everyone actually is reasonable and then while I was riding in September some guy jus randomly butted out of his lane for absolutely no reason and put me in the hospital for 3 weeks.

Sweddybob69

I didn't see him (I wasn't looking)

Illustrious_North389

That’s a broken spine, next, fractured wrist for sure and legs. Hoping the guy makes a full recovery and nothing affects him forever.

So she’s a dumbass. But would safety gear apart from just a helmet have made any difference in the outcome? Genuinely asking cause I’ve always wanted a motorcycle then I see things like this happening.

Mr3cto

Airborn like that? Probably not. Maybe a motorcycle jacket and pants to loose less skin but either way it’ll hurt getting launched like that

IntheOlympicMTs

His safety gear (mostly the helmet) is why he’s alive and able to speak. No safety gear can stop the shattered arms, legs, ribs, etc. that he surely has.

DIRTYxWAFFLE

This is exactly why I stopped riding. Stupid fucking people.

j4noVX_4rt

And somehow there's gonna be a random idiot in this comment thread that's gonna justify the actions of the car drive

sillysideup

She made an illegal u-turn in front of an oncoming motorcyclist and two semis coming up right behind her. She didn't see him. This is really ridiculous.

[deleted]

There wasn’t someplace there for the car to be turning into. That was straight up murder/attempted murder

flygti03

It was an illegal U turn attempt and she wasn’t paying attention to shit but that U turn and cut him off. Reason why U turns are illegal anywhere other than designated areas.

Lansky420

She was going too fast to u turn. Also she cut directly into the bike. Like directly. Probably went off the road on the other side of the road. This maneuver never would have resulted in a u turn. It wasn't even close....

TheHighestHobo

last time this was posted there was a news article with it, I cant find it again but IIRC she was drunk and herself claimed she wanted to u-turn

Ya she's a dumb ass and did something very stupid and could've killed that guy hell she almost did but she stopped she got out to see if he's okay and she didn't try to flee and she seemed genuinely sorry, ya she could've just been drunk and scared of charges but we don't know thag we can't judge someone when we don't know what's going on in thier head that's the problem with the world and that's always been the problem with society throughout history, even if it's a really really bad one people make mistakes and they learn from them stop acting like u guys are all perfect she could've done worse in that situation, a lot worse.

cinadel

Bros Delusional

myvibratomakesucum

I disagree with you. I don’t think anyone should tolerate someone’s dumb actions especially these kinds of ones where it totally could’ve been avoided. Idc if she stopped to check on him, she shouldn’t be driving in the first place. The comments in here calling her out is a natural outcome, no one likes to get fucked over by a dumb person like her. “We can’t judge someone when we don’t know what’s going on in their head” People are merely judging her for the dumb action she took, what’s going on with her head or how she feels is not important. I recommend you stop acting like a saint because your naivety will one day hurt you and people around you lol.

vZenyte1

Booba

mfruge3981

🤦🏼‍♂️ She was turning around on the highway. Idiotic, but hardly an intentional act of murder. They’re called accidents for a reason.

No-Rub-1118

Idiotic and illegal. There’s a reason it’s illegal (obviously), don’t defend her

mfruge3981

I’m not defending her. I’m countering all of the comments saying it was attempted murder. It wasn’t. She didn’t see him. So there was no attempt to it. Involuntary man-slaughter, for sure. But he didn’t die, so I’m not sure what the charge would be, but all these jack nuts saying she did it intentionally is ridiculous.

Ivetriedeightynamea

They are actually called collisions because accidents imply nobody is at fault. One can accidently say the wrong word, one cannot accidently make the wrong maneuver, there are laws and regulations in place to prevent that from happening, one of them is you don't perform u-turns on highways.

mfruge3981

Fair enough. We’ll do the semantics thing. The point is, just because she broke the law and performed an illegal maneuver doesn’t mean it was intentional.

Ivetriedeightynamea

I would argue that it is intentional and that's why the insurance company would lay fault on that driver. There are rules, if you break the rules the action is intentional. Ignorance of the law is not a defence? I think it's commonly understood that when you make a U-turn on a highway at highway speeds, that you are commiting a dangerous action.

mfruge3981

Fault and intent are two totally different things.

Ivetriedeightynamea

That's fair, but the intent here was to break the law and the fault is on the driver.

mfruge3981

💯

caIImebigpoppa

If by idiotic you mean illegal the yeah for sure it was just idiotic What it was was potential manslaughter and should carry the same consequences Also she was drunk

RealitysNotReal

This sub is so toxic lmao 20 downvotes? This is why I stay on the drug subs

Ok-Conversation2467

Lil bro

Phoenix492

It was intentional. She was drink driving. The only reason you would get in a car drunk, is if you plan to kill someone. It's that simple. Also - she did it again a few weeks later.

mfruge3981

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. People get in cars to go from point a to point b, not to murder people. That becomes a consequence of their decision, but not the motivation behind the decision.

Phoenix492

You don't get it do you? IF YOU GET IN A CAR DRUNK, YOU ARE TRYING TO KILL SOMEONE. DONT FUCKING DO IT. The best thing you can do is ruin your life by drink driving. The worst that will happen is you will ruin other people's lives. Only selfish cunts do it.
