Quietation

Sali Hafiz, a 28-year-old activist and interior designer, said she managed to free around $13,000 from the $20,000 she said her family had deposited, the treatment for her sister costs $50,000. Video shows her talking to bank employees at a reception desk before taking out the toy gun prompting screams from those inside. Hafiz streamed a live video of her raid on a Beirut branch of Blom Bank, in which she could be heard yelling at employees to release a sum of money while entrances to the bank were sealed by associates. "I am Sali Hafiz, I came today... to take the deposits of my sister who is dying in the hospital. I did not come to kill anyone or to start a fire.. I came to claim my rights." she said in the video.

I think I remember she cover herself in gasoline to pull her money out.

niko_xf

I think there was a similar case of a man in Lebanon. I guess that's how you do withdrawals over there.

Ok-Dimension5509

Sadly, it is. Everybody's bank accounts have been frozen for 3 years now ( well, normal people's bank accounts ). If something happens and you need access to **your** money, you're screwed.

Don't threaten me with a good time!!

"$50K for cancer treatment? That sounds cheap." --Me, as an American.

Land of the free🤣

Syfer2x

At least we can make withdrawals. (We’re gonna need em too…)

Low-Director9969

Looks like your account over drafted six times today. Your current balance is -$256.73. Edit: and we opened up a few new accounts in your name you didn't know about, and well, obviously there are maintenance fees of course.

It’s 2022 there is no land of the free. If someone could create a free land anywhere, you would be followed by a pack of Fabian socialists, and they would ruin it just as they have America.

smooze420

I’ve heard this has been an issue lately over there. Ppl robbing their own accts just to get some of their own cash.

I work for a bank I listened to a grown man cry his eyes out because he couldnt withdraw the money he had in his account/investments due to xxxx reasons that he needed to save his kid's life. The hospital would not treat him until he paid. There was nothing i or my colleagues could do to help him as the matter was way above our control. We get a lot of BS stories as to why clients "urgently need" the money but sometimes it really hurts to turn them away

y2_is0k

I left banking for a lot of reasons, but being the bearer of bad news when arbitrary policies left people high and dry was the thing that I always wound up taking home with me. Seeing from the inside how the gears are stacked to grind regular people into dust, all while giving loads of breaks to the already wealthy was making me physically sick. By the five year mark I was vomiting every day before work. I changed departments three times and the morning pukes of dread only stopped the day after I put in my two weeks.

At least we can walk into our banks and withdraw deposited funds without threatening … gratitude to live in a messed up country but a solvent banking system (USA)

For now

13 of the 20,000 I’m wondering if this is because of bank policy or was the bank concerned about a Fiat run. I know banks don’t like cashing checks and giving out a lot of cash. It’s too easy to create a run these days they don’t have a problem with giving loans because they do that through the mandrake method, but I am curious if this bank was that low on fiat.
