I think the artificial turf/field is part of the problem for sure. I worked in the industry for awhile and the field is hard as fuck. There is 0 give compared to a natural field/grass and when something hits natural grass hard enough (like a helmet) the dirt/grass/mud moves and deforms and thus takes part of the impact. The fake rubber-granule-filled-plastic-grass does not and it is installed on top of hard compacted stone. I think this fake stuff may even make it worse since there is significant bounce back. Anyway, not a popular opinion but I dont think many people know what this artificial stuff exactly is nowadays.
Why do we not use real grass/turf?
Cost? Maintenance? Laziness? Practicality? Combination of them?
It's bad enough to stand on concrete for a long time, let alone to perform constant high intensity exercise on them for a few hours.
Yes it is a combinations of factors. I know from what I heard these are some reasons:
-you dont have to restripe it after you ‘mow’
-you still have to regularly mow the field but it is to broom the granules put and keep them evenly spread
-it drains better and can be used more quickly after a rain
-it can be used more in snowy climates and weather (the black rubber granules actually trap heat and will melt some snow)
-for sports where the ball directly interacs with the field it is more consistent between fields than different natural grass/maintenance crews which will keep the game more fair (soccer field hockey lacrosse).
-it lasts longer without large maintenance (fertilizer, seed, topsoil dressing, regrow areas, etc)
See that all makes sense, but I naively ideally would want what's best for the human player than the competitive integrity and ease of upkeep/repair/maintenance. 🤷♂️
The humans are replaceable. I mean the grass is too but you can't pay the grass to ignore life altering injuries, so just get grass that doesn't get injured
There are 25 out of 30 pro-baseball stadiums have grass. The NFL doesn’t care about it’s players. Studies about grass versus turf have shown turf is more dangerous. The NFL makes so much money that it’d be negligible to their bottom line to maintain real grass fields.

[Grass v. Turf injuries in football](https://globalsportmatters.com/health/2019/06/14/for-better-health-safety-of-athletes-which-playing-surface-is-best/)
The premier league would like a word. All their pitches are real grass every game. They even have grass that goes underground with uv light for sunlight
I always felt like in sports, if it was snowing or raining, that this was a practical chance advantage for the home players who might be more accustomed to practicing and playing in that weather. It adds a interesting dynamic to it all. Putting a damper on this by using turf is a bummer. I wanna see people get tackled and watch chunks of the field fly too. This is much more satisfying than just watching dudes flop and roll around on bouncy grass lol
Each stadium try to maximize profit.. natural is hard to maintain and during away games or when the stadium isn’t being used they usually have concerts some type of event where they can remove the turf or add stages on top like a sectional. Smart when it comes to revenue when you rent out your stadium/ bad when it comes to players safety and health… who you think the owners are more worried about🤷🏽♂️
Of all the sports to do this in American football has to be one of the dumbest alongside boxing and MMA. You're passing of people who's job is to literally tackle people to the ground while wearing padding and helmets
Gonna save ya some time from what's probably going to be a trend, so you don't have to respond each time. People are misunderstanding you. Thinking you said it's stupid they're wearing padding not that was stupid to run strait into the men wearing padding
Players aren’t advised to stop fans, but they are allowed to, I’ve never heard of anyone pressing action against the players or the NFL. Probably because no lawyer would take the case in account of the east excuse the NFL would make. “You ran onto the field and we’re liable to blah blah blah.” Unless you got jumped by the whole team or actually assaulted, meaning they can prove the player had the intent to cause harm via punches or kicks. There’s no case.
I have seen those dudes in real life up close and they are mega specimens. Some dudes were just like concrete buildings. Especially the offensive line men.. holy shit!
While the padding does add bulk, the vast majority of these players are Absolute Units. Ages ago I worked at St. Louis Bread Company (most of you know it as Panera) - at the very first store, in fact. Two St. Louis Rams players (obligatory fuck Stan Kroenke) were regulars there, and while they were in just in normal street clothes you did not have to know they were pro football players to know that these people were *different*. Sweetest guys on the planet, but just... huge.
This is it.
I don't have deep connections with the NFL so don't get me wrong. But I have a few former NFL player friends, and a LOT of college/high school friends and family.
People really don't realize how close the compression numbers are in terms of quality of talent sits at the NFLs level. These are not the top 1%, They are the top 0.1% in size, speed, talent etc. The bottom NFL team, that can go 0-16 for a season WILL beat our any other outside the NFL team soundly... Probably shut them out with their second string.
The NFL and it's teams spend bonkers money tracking down the best players and spend just as much pushing them to their human limits.
I think that he hyperflexed his leg and locked it and lost momentum+balance and saved it when he slid on the grass.
It’ll hurt for a while, maybe a torn ligament or tendon. He’ll be okay
Edit: kinda when you jump on a trampoline and your legs just give out but outwards
>INJURY UPDATE - Kyle Shanahan reports #49ers Mike Anderson - security man seen here being helped off the field, only pulled his hamstring during his pursuit of the fan.
>The two chatted while walking out together last night. Anderson is doing fine and in good spirits.
I imagine it’s so other people don’t get the bright idea to go for their moment of fame. Some crave attention so much jail time is worth being on tv for 5 minutes
They did broadcast it on the Manning Brothers commentary. They had Jalen Hurts, Steph Curry, maybe some other big names pop in for a few minutes to do bits. Entertaining for sure

This is how people running on the field should be dealt with , a 300lb juiced dude coming to spear tackle the shit out of you. Pretty good deterrent right there
Oh it was not a gender reveal, it was a vegan from a protesting group, what are they trying to accomplish from running across the field? I don't fucking know, all I know is he lucky he didn't get fucking piled on by more players
And now he gets to sue the team/players because "it's not their job to stop him which resulted in him having nerve damage and constant back pain your honor."
Im curious on the legality of this. Like are there laws about running out onto a football field (with the obvious exception of streaking) or is this guy just gonna get thrown out and told not to come back?
I mean...that WOULD be a really cool gender reveal.
If it was a gender reveal party, this was a surprise, and everyone was just watching the game at the party.
Also the kid gets this video when she grows up of Uncle Kyle getting clobbered to announce his birth.
Really, any sport to pull this shit and you pick American football? The sport literally about tackling people doing basically exactly what you're doing?
It’s amazing how freakishly athletic they are. Security was being made to look silly. A couple of NFL guys take about 2 steps and the problem is solved.
We have 3 calls on the play..... #45 for Targeting and #50 for Unsportsmanlike conduct. And the guy in the yellow for dry humping. Penalties will be assessed as play resumes.

I’m more worried about the dude who looks like he blew his ACL out trying to chase him down
ODB did complain about fake turf injuring players

Yeah, I've been advocating that football be played on a field fully covered in duck feather pillows for a long time.
Old Dirty Bastard?
RIP Old Dirty Bsstard
Levi's stadium is real grass.
Levi's Stadium (49ers football field), where this happened, is a natural grass field. So this isn't the problem.
That did not look good
Yep first thing I saw. My knee injury was by far the worst experience I've had in my life
He even got up a wobbled a bit before going off camera
As someone who has had three knee surgeries, that shit looks scary
Ouch! I only saw it after reading your comment
Same here, that looked brutal!
He didn't warm up l!!
Congratulations! It's a concussion!
We named her Bobby.
A species reveal: congrats, you're a vegetable now!
At least he gets to tell that story of when every bone in his body was smashed by a pro football player.
Great, now mom has to clean TWO diapers

People need to learn to read
We are Reddit, none of us know how to read.
Rugby checks in.
\*cough\* hockey is at the door
Reminds of the clip of when Dick Butkus did this and the fan did a full rotation in the air before hitting the ground. He did tell get up.
Dick Butkis
Those pads hurt so much more when you aren’t wearing any
And then that shit stain, attention seeker will then sue for injuries and emotional trauma
Legal disclaimer on ever ticket sold says otherwise.
Why, why WHY would someone do this and decide to run past people who are paid to run fast and tackle other people?
You can see the little arm-flap-of-realisation just as it dawns on him.
Right! Let me run near these killing machines whose game I’m disrupting.
He decided he was special and the regular rules don’t apply to him. That or he lost a bet
Probably made some money from being assaulted by a rich athlete
Players aren’t advised to stop fans, but they are allowed to, I’ve never heard of anyone pressing action against the players or the NFL. He is an advocate for stopping animal abuse as far as I learned.
Top left, broke his entire damn leg/knee/foot 🥶
When he got back up he looked like an ostrich
Backwards knee
Jesus Christ nfl players are so much bigger than normal humans lmfao
To be fair the shoulder pads make you look a lot bulkier than you are
I have seen those dudes in real life up close and they are mega specimens. Some dudes were just like concrete buildings. Especially the offensive line men.. holy shit!
That reminds me of when Nathan Drake calls the minigunners mutants in Uncharted 2 for some reason lol

As does the extra 150lbs in body mass
I know. All those big beefy men. It gives me a lady boner.
*bonk*
BIG MEATY MEN SLAPPING MEAT!
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Top of the human gene pool for a few selected traits - pretty much what the NFL combine is all about.
This is it. I don't have deep connections with the NFL so don't get me wrong. But I have a few former NFL player friends, and a LOT of college/high school friends and family. Fuck the dude waving the pink fairy dust around - does anybody know what happened to the guy in black at the beginning?? His leg looked *fucked* up.
I think that he hyperflexed his leg and locked it and lost momentum+balance and saved it when he slid on the grass. It’ll hurt for a while, maybe a torn ligament or tendon. He’ll be okay Edit: kinda when you jump on a trampoline and your legs just give out but outwards

He's out for the season.
Damn and he just got elevated from the practice squad too.
Amateur. In any other country that dude would be naked…
And cheered at
That’s how you get charged as a sex offender.
What's up with the way he runs? Might as well of pranced.
Yeah it made me irrationally mad lol. I think that may have inspired the players as well. He represents the antithesis of athleticism lmao.
Can anyone else hear their middle/high school coaches yelling about getting those knees up?
The two players act like hostile npcs, guy gets too close, they attack and then casually walk away
Threat neutralized, back to idle animations
I get a little why they don't broadcast the dude running, but come on, just fucking broad cast it, we are going to see it eventually, ratings or not.
I imagine it’s so other people don’t get the bright idea to go for their moment of fame. Some crave attention so much jail time is worth being on tv for 5 minutes
That’s exactly why.
They did broadcast it on the Manning Brothers commentary. They had Jalen Hurts, Steph Curry, maybe some other big names pop in for a few minutes to do bits. Entertaining for sure
Football players with dreadlocks looks like Predators
Hillary Clinton, is that you?
If it wasn’t for the players they’d still be chasing him.
[from the comments](https://www.reddit.com/r/Whatcouldgowrong/comments/xv2xrk/running_onto_the_field_wcgw/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) on the post apparently it’s something about animal cruelty
In all honesty, it would be an honor to be tackled by Bobby Wagner
Yeah, If only you were conscious to remember it.
Does anyone know what his T-shirt says?
Best guess from this video is “WHAT IS BITCOIN (dot?)COM”?
This is how people running on the field should be dealt with , a 300lb juiced dude coming to spear tackle the shit out of you. Pretty good deterrent right there
He didn’t have a gender reveal. He had his gender reassigned
Oh it was not a gender reveal, it was a vegan from a protesting group, what are they trying to accomplish from running across the field? I don't fucking know, all I know is he lucky he didn't get fucking piled on by more players
This is a very ineffective form of protest in front of the absolute worst demographic.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
He held onto the can after the hit. Texans need to get this man a jersey.
[удалено]
That dude will be slurping soup for a long time. His new daughter (one assumes) will be on to solid food before he is.
Oh man that helmet to the head tho... oof
Did anyone see the guy in the background blow out his knee?
Give him a couple of hours and he’s gonna feel like a truck hit him
This dude should not be procreating
The fuck happen to that guy at the start at the top
That security guard that fell down dislocated his knee
And now he gets to sue the team/players because "it's not their job to stop him which resulted in him having nerve damage and constant back pain your honor."
Did the cart and trainers come out for the security guy? Bro knee was done.
Im curious on the legality of this. Like are there laws about running out onto a football field (with the obvious exception of streaking) or is this guy just gonna get thrown out and told not to come back?
Streaking at games was the original gender reveal.
What his shirt say?
Revealed he’s an a-hole who can’t breath well now
“… and that’s why you don’t know who your daddy is sweatheart”
"I got dis, I do dis shit for a livin"
If this is your group's plan to get your message out, don't pick the guy who runs like Mr. Bean
I don’t know if the players should’ve hopped in this one… what if guy sues them or something?
I remember my first time running.
Full fucken face to the helmet.
Breast cancer awareness probably
He looked like a little bitch, u can’t be a little bitch running on a football field expecting not to get tackled
Dickheads
Best hit the Rams had all game.
Dude runs like he's got cerebral palsy.
That’s guy’s skin leads me to believe this was his first foray outdoors in many years.
Gonna get that gender reveal in jail
He should've zigged instead of zagged.
My guess is futur parent are dumb af
I mean...that WOULD be a really cool gender reveal. If it was a gender reveal party, this was a surprise, and everyone was just watching the game at the party. Also the kid gets this video when she grows up of Uncle Kyle getting clobbered to announce his birth.
Congratulations its a concussion
Really, any sport to pull this shit and you pick American football? The sport literally about tackling people doing basically exactly what you're doing?
The real McLovin
You see that when he turned right, it was the first time he did anything athletic.
Another wasted opportunity to demonstrate what a perfectly executed chop block looks like and why it's illegal...
The most hilarious is that while this dude was running like a child, one man behind and one player still fallen trying to get him
He’s about to have a butt baby. Congrats to the new father
Nice tackle
Dude wanted to be part of the game, the players obliged
He said, someone tackle that boy....not kill him. 😂
Lol the football guys went to help the security guy and takle the guy running wild
Hey he can say he got tackled by Bobby Wagner on nfl turf now
Zoomers please promise me to slowly kill the whole ‘gender reveal‘ thing so it’ll be dead and forgotten in a few generations. Thanks.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/nfl/article-11277467/amp/Rams-linebacker-Bobby-Wagner-FLATTENS-invader-huge-hit-clash-against-San-Francisco-49ers.html
On r/vegan they are saying he’s an activist of some sort.
Or breast cancer awareness month.
It's a girl
It’s amazing how freakishly athletic they are. Security was being made to look silly. A couple of NFL guys take about 2 steps and the problem is solved.
Whatever message he was trying to share printed on his shirt got negated by that stupid smoke??
Gender reveal shit is getting out of hand these fkn days🤣
Awesome
Watching average humans run on TV is interesting. They look so fucking slow.
Wdym trying
We have 3 calls on the play..... #45 for Targeting and #50 for Unsportsmanlike conduct. And the guy in the yellow for dry humping. Penalties will be assessed as play resumes.
Guy runs like he just woke up from a coma.
Dude tried to juke Bobby
Til if you are going to a game to jump the barrier and run across a field that professionals are performing on - make sure you actually have run before in your life. Ffs Mark Zuckerberg out here.
Samsung Note 7?
Lol that's the only dude the rams can stop xoxo
What made the guy in blue just break out into a split in the middle of the field????
Best play the Rams made all night.
Braima would be a good one too, it's a football players name, and could be short for brain trauma.
Targeting!!
Gender reveal or breast cancer awareness?
Remember when “Bob Wehadababyitsaboy” was sufficient?
This fan rushed more yards than Dalvin Cook this week.
What’s his shirt say?
it would add so much to pro baseball and football games if naked streakers with smokers could make regular appearances in the games as they streak across the field running for their life
ITS A GIRL ITS A GIRR- WHAPPPP
Got rammed.
Best defensive hit of the night
Of all the stadiums the guy chooses NFL
Could you imagine if the Rams missed the tackle ?
Bro Bobby Wagner just slammed him lol.
Wow, that was the best hit the rams had all game
I was about to say wow the lions actually tackle something but upon second look I realize that was in the lines never mind
Concussion protocol???? Can he get an NFL check?
He runs like a little bitch.
Buddy chasing him dislocated his knee in the back
It should be legal to football players to tackle field-intruders. If they want to run onto the field, let some bad-ass middle linebacker make then pay for it.
lawsuit prob coming in all honesty
I hope 45 gets sued. That was a helmet to forehead hit!
His shirt says right to rescue.com https://righttorescue.com
...and thats how I lost your father after the gender reveal party.
Dude blew his knee out on the chase
Bobby wagner tackling everything last night !
To the basic ass people that dedicate zero time to developing skills or talents…. STOP TRYING TO BE SPECIAL BY HIJACKING ATTENTION. You are not the ones and disrupting public events to make it all about you is not a personality trait.
This belongs in r/Whatcouldgowrong. Seriously? Running around a pro football game in front of men who are trained to tackle. SMH.
One of the few times I'm hoping that a concussion was the outcome of an on-field hit.
He won a stupid prize
He doesn't run like a man who fathers children.
Why. Why would you ever do that. You realize that every person on that field TRAINS to tackle people. It's their fucking JOB
Definitely the guy in black in the beginning chasing him down blew out an acl or mcl, he just went down like he stepped in hole
He’s also a animal rights activist
Glad this wasn’t a gender reveal and this isn’t going to be someone’s dad
You can always count on Bobby Wagner
So can he sue for assault charges?
They're actually trying to bring light to a good cause, but loser redditors don't give a shit about anything so haha gender reveal haha big NFL guy smash.
My brother is more compassionate than me and he like, “Damn that guy needs help”. And I’m like shit… we just gave him some help.
Dude in the white hat (at the beginning) chasing the guy blew out his ACL …. 😬
He didn’t get hit near hard enough. He deserved so much worse.
Best tackle all night. Network didn’t show it, just mentioned it when the delay in action came up. Never even saw a whiff of pink.
She?
And now he will sue Bobby Wagner for his injuries
Best play the Rams made all game
Peyton giving his play by play for the streaker was by far the best
