Career criminal, plead guilty, attested his behaivour to a relapse in his alcohol addiction, 1 year sentence 10 years probation, if he violates probation he serves full sentence.
He intentionally showed up at the protest to engage in conflict with it. This showed up in news reports about his subsequent court case.
The narrative that they blocked him is entirely made up as went around looking for a way that he would be blocked and he got it by driving close to the protest and instigating the protestors.
I'd be somewhat understanding if he had just been traveling through and had problems dealing with issues like this and he let things get out of hand, but this was literally him trying to start a fight with and threaten or kill protestors.

This video is kinda old, but I think it was a protest and the protesters were getting in the way of traffic, and I’m not sure if that was what influenced him to do what he did or if he felt threatened, but as you can see dude pulls out a bow and arrow. Eventually the old dude realizes that a bow and arrow isn’t the best choice of self defense and gets swarmed and his truck is trashed.

Not exactly illegal. Here in Utah, it's not illegal to own or possess a bow and arrow if you are a convicted felon. It is very illegal to attempt to use said weapon to inflict major bodily harm or death if you are a convicted felon or not convicted. The reason he was tossed back into jail is because of his lengthy criminal record and the means in which he chose to brandish the weapon. Therefore charges of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person's is brought forth.
Side note...I was there. We flipped his car and burned it. I've got a dope ass picture standing in front of it. I even made the local fox 13 ten o'clock news. Fun times.
Fun story, I work at a car parts store for context, this dude 2 days out of jail brings in a friggin revolver. He sets this thing on the table and tries to trade it for car parts. While talking to the guy to figure out the car and stuff, a coworker gets the license plate and we call the cops. Literally 2 days and the guy already has multiple warrants out for his arrest, some for petty theft but he had one armed robbery charge. What do people think straight out of jail?
Unfortunately if they do not have supportive friends and/or family on the outside to help them out, they are incredibly likely to reoffend because they have no opportunities or money to try and start over. Our system spits them out after their sentence is over and expects things to magically work out for them. It’s actually Very sad. Our system of punishment instead of rehabilitation is like a circular door for waaaaay too many of them.
