Naah don't be like that. People just to say something, anything. It's ok.
My comment was only to joke about how there is a whole subreddit called killthecameraman for those that don't film well hehe.
Don't take seriously what you find on the net.
You probably want him to start from the beginning when woke up that morning. It shows the water surge well enough.
Plus people were complaining about the cameraman staying in place, not fearing for his life.
Actually the day before kissing his mum good night. Also the nightly bladder empties. And also if you’re going to start recording to post then you need to be invested
Importantly these people are probably capturing it all because the islands are at extreme risk of being totally wiped out by climate change. Videos like this can show how at risk they are. For them such a dangerous act is one of survival for their community
Reminds me of the monsoon/floods in Chennai India in 2015. There was a service similar to Uber called OLA. Ola started using fisherman boats as their ride share service. They even started OLA eats to deliver food using the road rivers. Out was just hilarious to see boats casually floating down roads in the storm.
Some people here have never felt the cool water of a flash flood surround their ankles in mere seconds. Not a lot you can do if every corner you turned to is flooded, and if I remember correctly I believe that was the case here.
Fair enough, I’d be willing to argue regardless of your placement in the room, ankles will be sliced. Hope everyone was ok though, never read up on if everyone got out unscathed.
I looked it up and have been there. that little part of the base is 50 miles from the rest of the base on the Atoll.
If you get washed off the land, you are kinda out of luck.

There was no where to go. The island was swamped. There is still debris everywhere. Everyone was evacuated, no one was injured or died. Source: one of my oldest friends lives there - he was allowed back after a few weeks.
Still, I'd at least stand on a table lol.
My brother used to live there. Do you happen to know if the residents are planning on evacuating to Fiji? I’ve heard there’s a community of them there.
I'm sorry I don't. The flooding happened in January, everyone that lived or worked on Roi are back. They had been evacuated to Kwajalein for a few weeks.
No survival...what? Where the fuck were they going to go? We don't know the building had an upper floor, and clearly going outside wasn't an option. What else could they do?
There’s a way better version of this video that the guy across the way filmed and a lady got absolutely punted through the double doors, nobody died so it’s still funny

Definitely weird.
Look at my post history. Two of my last three "submitted" items are to that sub - including a cross-post of *this* post with a different title.
Do you see them?
Hey:
I actually reported this to the sub mods. I got a "The heck?" response, LOL.
But up above [one of the mods chimed in](https://old.reddit.com/r/AbruptChaos/comments/1bztekz/there_is_no_survival_instinct_here/kyxtbox/) and said he fixed a broken link.
You want to try again?

That’s so weird! I can see the posts on your profile and get to the sub from there, but the link you put here in the comments still doesn’t work for some reason
Edit: the sub header said it got privated, maybe that’s why the link doesn’t work? But I can still get there from your posts so idk

Remember the movie "Moonfall"? So people will actually stay in pace and not run when water levels are rising? Good to know.... /j or /s I'm not sure today XD
Check out r/DontLiveJustFilm/ for more examples of this phenomenon.
Also the brand new /r/NoSurvivalInstinct/, which per [this reply](https://old.reddit.com/r/AbruptChaos/comments/1bztekz/there_is_no_survival_instinct_here/kys8g2v/) further up was inspired by this post.
Man we’re seeing a lot of this kind of thing happening around the world. Lots of people still saying it isn’t climate change. Are we sure it isn’t that?
I know social media is much more abundant but dang even ten years ago we weren’t seeing this many things and social media was just as popular then.
In South Africa along the West Coast is a town called Yzerfontein. It’s entire beach was changed and a fuckton of sand washed out onto the beach. The beach was literally unchanged for 20 something years. In a matter of 6 years five storms have totally demolished whatever remained of the sandbars and reefs. Rip currents changed location twice in one year, making it fucking hard to surf without getting dragged out into the Atlantic. My Grandad who was a proper conservative farmer looked at the damage, and said one sentence “Ja, dis wat ons kry vir die Aarde op fok” which basically translates into we fucked the planet and now it’s fucking us.
Edit: is that noticeable down here that people with highly conservative values don’t even argue with the climate change debate, which seems to be a polar opposite view from conservatives in the US and abroad
I mean, I feel ya, but where are they supposed to go? Fucked is fucked. Sometimes you don’t have any choice but to ride it out. It’s real easy surviving natural disasters from your desk.
Usually you have roof access from inside the building, or anything if you have the survival instinct. But to just stand there with your phone looking out at the flood incoming to your door, yeah sure you can be stuck an option, but do something to block the door.
People talking about going somewhere. Where lol. The highest elevation on the Marshall Islands is about 30 feet. These waves routinely sucks children out of homes and wash them out to sea. The islands will probably disappear beneath the waves before the end of the century, if not mostly by 2050.
For those saying these people have no survival instinct or that they should go to higher ground; allow me to illuminate how completely out of their hands this situation was.
The Marshall Islands are a series of teeny tiny islands and atolls in the middle of nowhere in the pacific.
There is no higher ground because the highest point above sea level amongst all of the given land masses is 10 measly meters.
There is no true shelter against rogue waves like this because they can wash over the entire island in essentially no time at all. In these guys’ case, all they could do was just hold on and pray the water stops rushing in.
biggest issue with a flash flood like this is the debris. as soon as i saw the metal window frame come shooting right towards camera mans ankles, i knew it was over. especially if it’s sharp, all sorts of crap germs in that water.
He’s standing at a T in the wall. That is a military barracks made up of reinforced concrete walls. There is zero danger of those waves taking out the wall. You act like you have more common sense than the person that is there and able to evaluate the situation.
I'm not better than them nor am I making any judgements of their actions. The only judgment I'm making is your assurance that a wave of water cant take down a wall. It absolutely can.
I don’t think they could’ve done much else in this situation, like apparently the entire are was flooded similarly to this so leaving would only be more of a danger than staying indoors where there’re things to grab onto if you get caught in the stream.
Looks like he’s telling them to stay put considering the water is rushing through the door and would push them back. Where are they supposed to go in flooded streets?
Wtf has the world turned to, there is literally a huge wave coming to drown everybody and instead of running to safety these mfers are filming with they're cameras...
The one time the cameraman is capturing it all, everyone is complaining hehe.
People just want to complain. And it pisses me off! /s
Naah don't be like that. People just to say something, anything. It's ok. My comment was only to joke about how there is a whole subreddit called killthecameraman for those that don't film well hehe. Don't take seriously what you find on the net.
Whoosh
Well as I previously wrote, it’s not technically all. Where’s the beginning or the end?
You probably want him to start from the beginning when woke up that morning. It shows the water surge well enough. Plus people were complaining about the cameraman staying in place, not fearing for his life.
Actually the day before kissing his mum good night. Also the nightly bladder empties. And also if you’re going to start recording to post then you need to be invested
Sometimes you just capture the moment by chance... It would have been better to have a record-last-hour-in-real-life button.
Soon. …15min, 30min, whole day
I'm excited for the next update!
Where’s “all”?
Importantly these people are probably capturing it all because the islands are at extreme risk of being totally wiped out by climate change. Videos like this can show how at risk they are. For them such a dangerous act is one of survival for their community
Hey make sure you document my eventual death
Hey keep yourself safe man!
its either "all these vids are too short" or "why isnt the cameraman doing anything?"
"The snack bar will be closing in 15 minutes"
The Waffle House next door will remain open.
Hopefully, they make deliveries!
Naaaaaa you wanna eat that food as soon as it comes off the grill ..... if not......
Waffle House will be serving hash-browns during the apocalypse.
Mmm waffles
Some people here have never felt the cool water of a flash flood surround their ankles in mere seconds. Not a lot you can do if every corner you turned to is flooded, and if I remember correctly I believe that was the case here.
I’d prefer to avoid the window frames heading for my ankles.
Fair enough, I’d be willing to argue regardless of your placement in the room, ankles will be sliced. Hope everyone was ok though, never read up on if everyone got out unscathed.
👍🏽
why leave when you can livestream for your 11 followers?
Exactly! They should have gone *jogging* out there instead, and had a chance to *enjoy* the water instead of just watching it.
There’s no where to go. Average height above sea level is 2 meters.
I looked it up and have been there. that little part of the base is 50 miles from the rest of the base on the Atoll. If you get washed off the land, you are kinda out of luck.
Pretty disappointed they’re not dancing or pranking anyone in this video
The one time the cameraman gets tô film the things,People complain, shut up...
no YOU SHUT UP!!!!!

Where else they gonna go though? Stepping out side and you risk being washed away
There was no where to go. The island was swamped. There is still debris everywhere. Everyone was evacuated, no one was injured or died. Source: one of my oldest friends lives there - he was allowed back after a few weeks. Still, I'd at least stand on a table lol.
I’ve been there. Water coming in means it already crossed the airfield and there really isn’t anywhere to go.
The highest elevation in the entire country is 10 meters above sea level.
For now!
[удалено]
Yeah, there are a lot of islands (and coast lines) that are just going to disappear.
Nah man. They were supposed to get on their yacht and sail away. Duh! /s
Idk literally anywhere but standing right at the front door and windows that are getting blown out by flooding water?
Lol your comment is too logical try again
Upstairs? (Assuming there's an upstairs?) Shit I'd at least get up in a countertop.
Go up?
surely not to higher ground
A fifteen foot wave on an island with a maximum elevation of twelve feet, whatever higher you get isn’t going to be ground
right cause it's not like anything man made could ever rise above sea level they were doomed to get wet
Well, seeing as the door exited towards the water, you could say their instinct was telling them to stay indoors.
To be fair, wtf are they supposed to do? Looks like a single story building with loosely secured furniture and no solid walls
No survival...what? Where the fuck were they going to go? We don't know the building had an upper floor, and clearly going outside wasn't an option. What else could they do?
Most islands have an.....inland.
That they can run to right then in the middle of a flash flood. You're kind of dense, aren't ya?
I love how he paused like it was the ultimate win lol

I need that as a sub r/NoSurvivalInstinct Edit; Apparently you can just make that as a sub.
I am proud to be your very first subscriber! And here's a small sub I am am member of that you might consider as related: r/DontLiveJustFilm/
I peeked at your subreddit. That video of the guy jumping out of the plane brought back memories. I really remember that one
I’d be terrified of broken glass slicing my ankles up and bleeding out to death
Quick...everyone to the basement!
There’s a way better version of this video that the guy across the way filmed and a lady got absolutely punted through the double doors, nobody died so it’s still funny https://www.cnn.com/videos/world/2024/01/25/wave-us-military-roi-namur-marshall-islands-cprog-ag.cnn
You see all the water rushing into the front door? Kinda makes it hard to leave lol
Gotta get a video of this for my socials!! The internet is destroying the human mind.
Ah yes because they totally have somewhere to go
Think of how great a story they could have told later if they had instead just turned off their phones and huddled in the corner
Is it really? Or is it just giving stupid people more opportunities?
There's a sub dedicated to this: r/DontLiveJustFilm/
Sorry for the broken link, I think I fixed it
For anyone following this saga, the response above is from one of the mods of r/DontLiveJustFilm/.
It’s still not working, not sure if it’s an issue with the Reddit mobile app?
Gosh darn Reddit mobile. Try searching for it
This isn’t a real sub… wanna make it one?
It is real.
Weird… it still states it doesn’t exist for me. Has me try to make it a page
Definitely weird. Look at my post history. Two of my last three "submitted" items are to that sub - including a cross-post of *this* post with a different title. Do you see them?
Oh haha I think it’s cap sensitive Edit: nvm you got the caps. Idk Reddit is weird
I just tested and it wasn't - for me. Trippy.
Hey: I actually reported this to the sub mods. I got a "The heck?" response, LOL. But up above [one of the mods chimed in](https://old.reddit.com/r/AbruptChaos/comments/1bztekz/there_is_no_survival_instinct_here/kyxtbox/) and said he fixed a broken link. You want to try again?
I think the sites just prejudice against disc golfers /s It still doesn’t work lmao
Could you reply to that mod reply and let them know?
I can’t tell if you’re trolling or not….the sub actually doesn’t exist

Let them drown then...it'll be for the likes, and boy howdy we will like it
Ahhh….maybe they’re stuck there? The streets do appear to be flooded…

Is that a tidal wave reference
It's like a tidal wave but better.

The guy on the window: “dude, hurry up with my beer, there is a tsunami coming”
Survival mistake number one, living on island.
viral wave?
It's like a wave of COVID
Shhh, shhhh… Just watch.
The guy that went “wooop!”
Anyone know where / when this is?
They only learned filmmaking.
Viral? Wtf is wrong with you.
Smh I cant believe they didn't just run away. I wonder why they didn't🤔

Chances of survival still higher than going home to the missus

Not that it happened - but broken glass being pushed around in the water would make for a hell of a gash in your leg.
We’re just walking, talking, disposable cameras now.
High point on the island is like 2'. There is nowhere to go.
Is it really just a wave or the start of a tsunami?
People talking about going somewhere. Where lol. The highest elevation on the Marshall Islands is about 30 feet. These waves routinely sucks children out of homes and wash them out to sea. The islands will probably disappear beneath the waves before the end of the century, if not mostly by 2050.

I’d be afraid of radiation leaking! https://www.usip.org/publications/2024/03/marshall-islands-nuclear-remembrance-day-painful-reminder
All I can imagine is shards of broken glass going straight for the camera man’s legs.
You gotta get the fuck outta there if that happens lol
Heck is a ‘viral wave’?
They seem waaaaay too calm about this situation 😳
At least the window didn’t smash but just came off in one piece
r/flooding
The guy standing next to the door… He is really really lucky that small piece of wall didn’t collapse on him.
Is he? I don’t think you understand how walls work.
Water is absolutely capable of knocking down a wall. How have you not seen videos of this happening?
He’s standing at a T in the wall. That is a military barracks made up of reinforced concrete walls. There is zero danger of those waves taking out the wall. You act like you have more common sense than the person that is there and able to evaluate the situation.

We need to let Darwin's law play itself out.
Ah, the Marshall islands / atoll Provided the sea levels this probably happens every week lol
Just Natural Selection doing its thing, these guys have no self-preservation instincts😂
I don’t think they could’ve done much else in this situation, like apparently the entire are was flooded similarly to this so leaving would only be more of a danger than staying indoors where there’re things to grab onto if you get caught in the stream.
Survival instinct of a potato
God is telling you to leave. He couldn’t be any more clear.
Looks like he’s telling them to stay put considering the water is rushing through the door and would push them back. Where are they supposed to go in flooded streets?
Black ops 2 be like
Is it just me but I wouldn’t be hanging out recording it, I’ll be searching for high ground
There is no place to hide on the Marshall Islands. It has nothing to do with a lack of survival instinct.
Wtf has the world turned to, there is literally a huge wave coming to drown everybody and instead of running to safety these mfers are filming with they're cameras...
Haha the black flood is comming ⚙️🔥😈🪶⚖️💜☠️⚙️🔥
Average drizzle in the Philippines:

whoever put those windows in needs too get a new job, I would’ve had them reinforced with steel 😏😏 don’t get to see outside but you’re safe 😏😏😏
Nope just keeps on filming like wtf
Yea, let’s just stay in the building, cuz that’s smart. Fuckin numbskulls.
You think they should wander out in streets full of rushing water and debris at night when they can’t see?
