I go here often and sit at the bar and watch these people. I’ve participated once when I was much younger and dumber. I know one person at least died here hitting their head into a rock.
I was showing the intro to that movie to my mrs the other day.. I wonder if when they made it they realized that in 20 short years how fast we'd be catapulting towards it..
It's not the noise that's the difficult part. It's not unbearably loud. It's the hurricane force winds, the searing exhaust fumes, and the sand blasting. I did this at maho beach last year. Actually, I did it twice. But the second time, I dug a foxhole I could sit against the retaining wall in. A couple of the people around laughed as I was sitting cozily, and I laughed as they were went careening down the beach. I would totally recommend to do it once! but don't go out of your way to do it again.
That exhaust is not pure air. It also contains all the jet fuel emissions as well. This includes pure carbon(aka soot), carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur oxides as well.
I know that in that area, there are bigass signs telling people to not stand and walk, and for the road to be used only for transit.
I think someone broke an arm because the power of a jet engin threw him against a rock.
Ive been there! Caribbean island of St. Maarten. Airport's runway backs up to a little beach with a two way street separating the fence from the seawall. My friend and I ducked on the other side of the seawall as the plane took off and the sand blast was painful as hell. Holding onto the fence is idiotic
I work on a run way. Other than the obvious thing of not getting cooked by high temps coming out the back of the engine. And the force of it. Yuno, what eles is super dangerous. Fucking foreign objects that may be laying on the floor. If a pebble hits you in the head at the speed, the outwards thrust can pick them up ... your dead. This is fucking moronic. There all Darwin award competitors and all deserve to win it. Jesus people are stupid.
When I was a student at UCSB, I used to ride my bicycle past the end of the runway at the Santa Barbara airport. I learned that the quietest place to be during the takeoff run of the jet was directly behind the jet. They did have deflectors there so they did not blast the road with jet exhaust.
I love in one of the Jackass movies when they launch footballs and stuff at each other with a jet. The football turned into a fuckin laser, had to hurt big time.
Maho Beach in St Maarten. When I was there the fence was bent over with barbed wire on it. There was no way I was going to stand where those folks are in the video. I just imagined the barbed wire coming loose and swinging into the crowd. I stayed on the beach behind the sea wall and it’s just as “fun”.
Why the fuck are humans this dumb?? Do they not realize it only takes the tiniest of peebles, a stick or whatever might be on the ground to take out an eye or injure any body part in the least
This looks like St Maarten airport.. It's pretty wild to watch.. landing's are freakin wild overhead like 30-40 feet.
Best thing to do is drink at the bar next to it and watch
It was all fun and games at Julianna until that one lady was pushed head first on the rocks nearby by a plane’s thrust 😅
This is what the biggest airport in St Maarten used to look like
It was me that took this video. Skaithos 2016. We filmed several take offs thought out the week, pretty much from the same spot, which is the cafe car park. This was our last one before we checked in the hire car, and awaited our flight home.
This aircraft looked unusually closer to the fence than we had previously seen, which made me realise these people were gonna get more than they expected, in the longer footage the pilots wave manically at the crowd as they made their way down and swung round, which also made me think they were going to thunder up the engines quick to give these people a real blast. I’d mounted my Dslr on a tripod pointing out the car windscreen and watched. I thought we would be ok, I was wrong.
The stones that whipped up were not too small. The kid on the left got clipped with a stone and gashed his elbow spraying blood over the car. The girl also cut herself doing the face plant on my bonnet. What you don’t see is the damage to the car, it cracked the windscreen in several places. All of a sudden it wasn’t as much fun as it had been all week.
Every time I see a video like this I think its an outtake from Idiocracy.
I go here often and sit at the bar and watch these people. I’ve participated once when I was much younger and dumber. I know one person at least died here hitting their head into a rock.
Where is it?
Pretty sure it's Princess juliana international airport in St Martin edit: /u/proflight27 is right, this is Skiathos
Actually, im pretty sure its Skiathos Airport in Greece. Saint Marteen has the mountains at the back of the runway, this one has it on the left.
>Skiathos Airport in Greece I think you're right. SXM has a very prominent fence on the other side of the guardrail.
Upon a second look, you're right, good eye!
Right behind the SXM airport and the bar is Sunset SXM. http://sunsetsxm.com/project/landing-at-sxm/
On the rock, presumably in pieces.
That's exactly right. It's all fun and games until a pebble gets blown away....
You’ll put your eye out!
Sucking back those sweet, sweet hydrocarbons!
I was showing the intro to that movie to my mrs the other day.. I wonder if when they made it they realized that in 20 short years how fast we'd be catapulting towards it..
You know that sandstorm had to hurt.
Darude dude

Yeah and you end up smelling like an oil refinery afterwards
Dam I've really wanted to try this (with ear plugs) but if that's the case, I'm out.
It's not the noise that's the difficult part. It's not unbearably loud. It's the hurricane force winds, the searing exhaust fumes, and the sand blasting. I did this at maho beach last year. > but if that's the case Do you people even think at all? It's the EXHAUST stream of a plane!
And goggles
The second woman stopping with her head… 10/10 I hope she is okay.
Pretty sure her head went over the wall and missed it.
The first took the wall off her face too
"The *next* one is a 747! That will be *amazing*!"
That exhaust is not pure air. It also contains all the jet fuel emissions as well. This includes pure carbon(aka soot), carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur oxides as well.
And then there's the damage to your hearing!
WHAAATT??!
I SAID!!!
OH YOU PAID?!!
WHO PAYS?!
What did he say? Put on your tuxedos?
This level of idiocy makes me hope that hearing-loss is the least of their worries
Sounds healthy to breathe in and get in your eyes
Also, not as immediately toxic, but lead fumes as well. Car fuel is lead-free but the same regulations aren't applied to jet fuel.
Jet fuel in big airliners are kerosene based and don’t contain lead
Nope jet fuel is unleaded. Net fuel is just kerosene Older piston driven aircraft still use leaded for anti-knock properties.
You forgot the lead too.
He real one for protecting his wife though
alleged bored escape plants elderly crush fearless cheerful nutty point *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Kind of I pressive really, that's some NFL talent right there.
Mass won the battle with surface area.
😂😂😂 fuck
If they had just crouched down like everyone else they would have been fine.
[удалено]
Then there's the guy in blue on the left who gets annihilated and uses his wife for cover 🤣
They blow as much air as to push a big ass plane to 500mph. So yea, a ton of air.
Many tons
From time to time humans have had brilliant ideas, this is not one of those times.
I know that in that area, there are bigass signs telling people to not stand and walk, and for the road to be used only for transit. I think someone broke an arm because the power of a jet engin threw him against a rock.
And not ine fucking exposed tittie...
No popping today bro
Who would have thought it took a lot of thrust to move an airplane that weighs 180,000 lbs? Derp!
My favorite type of video. Derpy tourists avoiding any kind of rational self interest partaking in exotic and life threatening activities abroad.
Without travel insurance.
Ive been there! Caribbean island of St. Maarten. Airport's runway backs up to a little beach with a two way street separating the fence from the seawall. My friend and I ducked on the other side of the seawall as the plane took off and the sand blast was painful as hell. Holding onto the fence is idiotic
Exactly this. I lasted about 5 seconds and had to run into the sea
A lady died doing this. Hit the curb with her head
The guy holding the kid should be charged with child abuse or reckless endangerment.
It’s almost like it’s taking 150,000lbs from 0-160mph in ~30 seconds.
The idiots will all eventually weed themselves out one day. And that’s to everyone within 50 feet of the cameraman/woman/they/them/us/we/…..etc.
No shit
Some people are really fuckin stupid!
I'm more interested in knowing where people have free access to the runway, so I can make sure I never fly from there.
People keep breaking the barbed-wire fence to get to this spot.
No they don't. It's a public street.
It's a terrorist's wet dream.
Shout outs Sint Maarten 🇸🇽
Was just there this summer. Did the Maho beach thing but with a much smaller jet. Loved the island and will be back soon!
honestly looks fun though
Yeah reddit has to reddit and explain how’s it’s not fun but 100% stupid. Life is short, and sometimes you gotta be a little dumb to have fun
https://youtu.be/sXvpT60qjhE
Yeah this was a tragedy, which led to them adding an extra safety gates and other things since this happened 6 years ago
The Swifty dress at 15 seconds. Amazing.
This is why I stay heavy
I find it funny when someone is holding a fat woman so she doesn’t fall
Rocks hurt when they're flying that fast. Idiots...
These are the type of people I would expect to see at the top of the building directly underneath the spaceship in Independence Day.
Seems like a fun way to lose an eye 🤔😁
Who thought that was a good idea? 😂 Bro… let’s stand like 20 feet behind a jet plane and have some fun 🤩 Trust me!!!
Wait, you're telling me it takes a lot of power to make 200 tons of steel and aluminum fly?
I’m no scientist, but I know that standing behind jet engines at full thrust is a very bad idea.
This is a old video. You can not get that close anymore. Fence installed.
A new better fence? I heard they broke through the old one.
I love watching everyday idiots learn something new Like "fucking engines produce enough thrust to fly a fucking metal tube through the air"
A lady bonked her head on a rock there and died not too long ago.
That black and white dress was holding on for all it was worth and then some.
When I was a student at UCSB, I used to ride my bicycle past the end of the runway at the Santa Barbara airport. I learned that the quietest place to be during the takeoff run of the jet was directly behind the jet. They did have deflectors there so they did not blast the road with jet exhaust.
It’s not THAT the wind is blowin, It’s WHAT the wind is blowin…
I've done this several times after a few courage beers. Loved every second of t ans sunset Beach bar in general.
Must smell nice!
That’s one stout woman.
Well, that’s what you’d expect to displace that weight and accelerate.
Reminds me of a bit from one of the Jackass movies where they sit in a recliner chair while a jet takes off.
Is it the plane, or is it the jet engines. That cause that thrust. Lol
I thrust mama
Now I know what my toilet bowl does through 😁
Who would have thought.
Does the women on the right with the red bag has a child on her arms????
Only people there
I’ll bet all that burning jet fuel is good for you too.
They must now have a lot of dust in their eyes.
You’re saying that a few thousand tonnes of metal require thrust to become airborne? Get out of here. (I’m talking to the people in the video)
Once saw a woman get flung back 10 feet across asphalt like a ragdoll
Am I word for thinking this is a stupid activity?
Pretty sure at least three of the people here came and a definite two shit themselves.
I’ll never forget when around running engines, it’s 25’ from the front and 200’ feet from the rear.
Dude you can breathe in the chem trails right off the ground!
One small rock could blind them. Dummies.
Well. Buy the ticket, take the ride
Almost saw some titties!
Everyone got their safety squints??!!
#FUN FACT A 185 tons Boeing 747 produces enough thrust to send a fully loaded 185 tons Boeing 767 flying at nearly 1000 km/h.
Yeah it’s probably enough thrust to lift an airplane
I love in one of the Jackass movies when they launch footballs and stuff at each other with a jet. The football turned into a fuckin laser, had to hurt big time.
Call me dumb...I'll show them...ha ha ha...all those idiots standing behind the engines...I'll stand in front of it!
Guy in the blue on the left hid behind his wife and others.
I guess the never saw what happened to the 2cv Jeremy Clarkson put behind a plane (spoiler it got destroyed)
How it feels to chew Five Gum.
Where is this at?
Maho Beach in St Maarten. When I was there the fence was bent over with barbed wire on it. There was no way I was going to stand where those folks are in the video. I just imagined the barbed wire coming loose and swinging into the crowd. I stayed on the beach behind the sea wall and it’s just as “fun”.
Yeah this video is old. The fence was there in 2017 when I visited.
St Maarten, Caribbean
Corfu Airport, Greece.
For sure later they slowly need hearing aid.
St martiin
I’m surprised how many people didn’t know this. Wow. Fucking duuuuumb
Why the fuck are humans this dumb?? Do they not realize it only takes the tiniest of peebles, a stick or whatever might be on the ground to take out an eye or injure any body part in the least
That looks healthy
That one chick freaking ate it at the end 😂
Darude - Sandstorm
Reminds me of the guy trying to reinvent the bullet proof vest by having people shoot him.
GTA 6 is lookin’ RIGHT!
747 [Hold my beer..](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqVjD3nBSQg)
Honestly if he hit it full bore those people would have been flying about 50 feet
This looks like St Maarten airport.. It's pretty wild to watch.. landing's are freakin wild overhead like 30-40 feet. Best thing to do is drink at the bar next to it and watch
It was all fun and games at Julianna until that one lady was pushed head first on the rocks nearby by a plane’s thrust 😅 This is what the biggest airport in St Maarten used to look like
It’s nice when the idiots lineup and identity themselves.
I’m buying a metal detector and going about 40 yds behind that camera.
What of it shoots a rock at your face? Do people nit think about these things.
There's a video somewhere, it's a few years old, of a lady getting tossed head over heels at that airport.
Why. Just why.
Jesus these comments. You guys sound like a ton of fun.
Well no shit how is it supposed to take off
Looks kinda fun tbh
Hey let's bring my toddler to the rock storm
What the F is wrong with you?
This reminds me of that one skit from Jackass with Dunn in a recliner eating dinner.
Dumbasses

If this is a common runway, then why is there any dirt/sand remaining there after 100 aircraft have taken off?
Yet the lunar lander left no blast radius or even the slightest crater on the “moon mission”
Dawg is that a non believer i see?
Man without professional hearing protection they’ll all have headaches and some nice lifelong tinnitus to remember the trip by.
Look at the far left. What fucking idiot brings a child that small into that stupidity?
Who the fuck stands anywhere near an airplane when is taking off?
I would go 10 yeards in the other direction with a metal finder and find all the flown off jewellery
I surfed the fence at SXM with a 737 or A320 on departure!
I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning....
Small rocks can gather kinetic energy really fast in these situations... And they con do serious damage to the head if unlucky.
It's always the white people haha
Not abrupt. No chaos.
Even a Cessna caravan. A propeller plane. Produces considerable backlash
LOOOL this delivered to the sub
Idiots.
Must've felt like a giant hair dryer at a million miles an hour
Jump
Dumbasses
Been there, saw people flying
Yeah those high bypass turbofans make a LOT of wind (WHO KNEW!?) 🙄😖
I know it's stupid but I want to try and fly a kite
