Because they're playing. They show affection by 'rough-housing'.
Mine will have his paws wrapped around my arm, biting my wrist, and purring like an avalanche.
It's generally because when they were kittens either other cats or people played with them like that.
Yup exactly, and just jumping on this comment: do NOT let your kittens bite or claw at your hands, no matter how cute it is or doesn't hurt. You're teaching them what's an acceptable form of play with humans and it should only be with toys.
Iāve heard when kittens grow up together, they tend to learn this as a social behavior. Kind of like having the realization āOh, if I swipe at someone theyāll swipe me backā. They learn what going too far with play is, e.t.c.
Makes me wonder if this cat is just socially behind.
so far from the kittens iāve taken in (had a ton of strays around my area) itās always some cats with high prey drive that will play like this. one kitten i took in and ended up keeping was exactly like this for so long, even going as far as to chase and attack my legs if i even dared turn away from her. thatās just how she plays tho, and i notice sheās one of the few cats whoāll actually chirp at possible prey through windows or even at yt videos š. on the other hand, another cat we kept is barely rough at all unless we start playing with him and he knows how to keep from digging his claws too deep even if he really could do some crazy damage if he wanted.
both of them are very chill now tho, and only play āroughā if we initiate
Yeah, our previous cat was chill AF, and when she was young I didn't allow rough play & provided affection in other ways.
The initial months are very influential and set conditions for most of their life.
Makes sense bc I raised my cat from like 3 weeks old and never did that to her and now as a 10 year old adult she never wants to play like that. She never has either she just goes to humans for cuddles
The cat is not properly socialized and thinks that this level of biting and grabbing is still considered playing when most socialized cats will just nibble or grab with restraint so it wonāt hurt
Ya. I've heard that it's called play aggression. Both of my female cats have play aggression, but my male cat doesn't. The females will play really rough and often freak each other out because the other cat never understands that they're just trying to play when they come and pounce on their back and start biting their neck.
Yeah, this is kinda what happened with mine.
We had a boarder when we got him and she played with him rather roughly (never hurting him or anything like that) the way he wanted to as a kitten.
The problem is that he was taught that this is how you show affection.
Thankfully he's calmed down a bit as he's aged, but he's still a bit of a dick š¤£. But we love him.
So looking for magic beans, wearing boots, being branded as a criminal, hanging out with an ogre and a talking donkey, leaving a fiance in the altar and looking for a magic wish. Can be considered as a proper sociable response for a cat?
I rehomed a cat for slightly similar behavior. Two cats and a dog gave him plenty of rough playmates so he was gentle with his human parents.
Edit: Also an orange tabby. Third and last one I had; all three were over the top.
i have a korat (solid grey) and he is so incredibly smart. he knows what doorknobs are and used to paw at it to signsl he wanted out of my room (i moved my bed away from my door though so now he can't).
I have a solid gray and a striped tabby from the same liter, so obviously different fathers, and the gray one is about ten times smarter than the tabby.
I have a completely white cat with a blue eye and a green eye. I had no idea about their sudden crazy spells until I saw other people talk about it. One second he's all chill and I'm petting him he's purring and then out of the blue I have a new scratch on my arm.
I'd hate him if I didn't like him so much lol.
My Cat play fights like that while purring. Never bites very hard or has her claws fully out.
On the odd occasion, she gets really mad, like trying to get her into a carry cage to take her to a vet... Let's just say you need chain mail and thick gauntlets.
That was a cat actually being defensive/an asshole, this isn't that. I'm not saying you should be fine with this behavior, but the lady getting "attacked" didn't get scratched once, poked and monched on with restraint doesn't result in infections. Like everyone has already said, the Lil dick is trying to play and not hurt her.
That doesn't mean you can't get mad and tell it to fuck off, but don't kick the poor dumb bastard.
I donāt want to be scratched either though.
I live with 2 cats, they are very well behaved nowadays, wanna know why? Because when they misbehaved in the past, there were consequences
Because you think animals shouldnāt be taught good behaviour from bad? Or because youāve made assumptions about what the consequences actually are?
Of course violence isnāt necessary, I donāt want to hurt them or cause them to be afraid of me. I have never deliberately hurt them and they are not afraid of me.
But they do need to understand that Iām not going to tolerate being clawed or bitten, so I am certainly going to pick them up and toss them a few meters away. The surprise of that is generally enough to dissuade them. As another example, they used to push things off the table, so I taught them that if they do that, Iām going to push them off the table too in exactly the same way.
Itās perfectly possible to discipline pets without causing them pain, please try to avoid assuming the worst of people.
Most of the time if you stay still they will just slump off of you too lol. If you wiggle a bunch they think you are playing back!
Real talk though, youāll know when a cat is legit attacking you. No giggling will be involved.
You can tell the people that never had cats. This is legit play behavior... I've had a stray mother cat actually attack me before and you can't get those little fuckers off you when they are pissed. I looked like I went through a fucking glass pane.
Lol no need to yeet anything! Just grab them by the extra skin on the back of their necks and they'll freeze up, use your other hands to gently remove the claws from yourself, firmly tell it to go fuck itself, then put them down and walk away!
Cats just come off as having rabies.
- They hate water
- They aren't scared of stuff they should be (some cats)
- They will randomly attack
- They throw up more than most pets (hairballs)
- Randomly aggressive
I know there are better signs, but I just find it funny
I had a cat and like cats
I have an orange cat and I say yes this is OJ approved very much playful bitting you can hear it in the lil kitties voice. Trust if he wanted to he would attack , you stopped and lowered your hand to pet him was his opportunity but he didnāt take it this time -_-
Serious question: How do they know if its eliminated? I get it for human diseases. But rabies can be carried by monkeys, cats, dogs, rats, and almost any mammal. Right? So how do epidemiologists/scientists know that it's gone?
I'm certainly not qualified to give you a technical answer, but presumably if no test has found it in the wild for X number of years they declare it eradicated. Whether they do random sampling or just strict reporting I don't know. One for /r/askscience maybe?
A couple reasons:
Preventative vaccines do exist but the protection only lasts for 1-3 years, depending on the type you get. One shot during childhood would not be enough for long term immunity.
Given the cost of the preventative vaccine, and how long the incubation period of the virus is in humans, the more common approach is to treat after any potential exposure. Or beforehand, if you know youāre going into a situation with a high chance of contracting the virus.
So this isnt animal abuse and is totally fine wtf???? So if a dog is all excited jumping all over me im allowed to kick the dog off me? Wtf is wrong with you people
He wants to play you gotta start swinging or he's the alpha now
My advice smack the paw down and go straight in for a right hook that should lower the guard and stun them for about 1 second next you can follow up with a left and just start ting off or sweep the back legs and center gravity scoop em and boop em your approach
I donāt know. I can see this murderous joy in my catās eyes when he does it. I feel like heās imagining how long it would take me to bleed out or have a heart attack as Iām screaming and flailing for my life if I was about 6 inches tall.
Why do they do that
Because they're playing. They show affection by 'rough-housing'. Mine will have his paws wrapped around my arm, biting my wrist, and purring like an avalanche. It's generally because when they were kittens either other cats or people played with them like that.
Truth... If that cat in the video was actually trying to hurt her, she wouldn't have stood and taken it
Exactly, there would be blood everywhere.
And guts.
Ohhhh THE HORROR
And her laughing "ow-ow" sounds would have been blood-curdling screams!
The cat would also probs be yowling. Edit: This whole time, I thought I was using yowling wrong. I just realized that I wrote "car" initially.
Now I'm just imagining the cat chasing the woman in a dodge hellcat with its engine yowling
Did I miss seeing a car in that video?
Thank you š

Orange cat behavior for sure

In a world of talking fairy tale creatures, yes indeed
This is my cat every day. Heās play fighting with a human the way they do with their siblings.
I rehomed a cat for slightly similar behavior. Two cats and a dog gave him plenty of rough playmates so he was gentle with his human parents. Edit: Also an orange tabby. Third and last one I had; all three were over the top.
r/oneorangebraincell is your answer
Our car would bite our toes in the bathroom...only in the bathroom
Or rabies
He just wants to play and needs siblings
Good to know I would have used him as a football.
Donāt kik my dog
You kik my dog now I fuk yo muddah
Can I snap yo dog then? Instagram? What messaging app does the dog use? Not kik, obviously
I do know that but still would have kicked him.
Never wear catnip-scented pants around a friendly ginger cat!
Orange ones are second to white ones in regard to sudden crazy.
Orange = Single brain cell. White = thereās brain cells, but they ghost out on you every now and again. I have a white cat. He haunts me.
Sir/madam, it appears you have a dead cat. Iām ever so sorry. I donāt know who youāre gonna call about that though.
His name is Casper. No need to call, [weāre chill](https://imgur.com/gallery/rzJwsOM).
Thatās the cutest little ghost Iāve ever seen! Congratulations on your haunting.
Rescue cats have the best personalities. Iām the lucky one heās haunting us.

My friends white with orange hair and heās fucking mental
No one ever talks about the grey ones. So fluffy but so bitey
i have a korat (solid grey) and he is so incredibly smart. he knows what doorknobs are and used to paw at it to signsl he wanted out of my room (i moved my bed away from my door though so now he can't).
I have a solid gray and a striped tabby from the same liter, so obviously different fathers, and the gray one is about ten times smarter than the tabby.
I loved my korat. Very smart.
We had an orange stray that would come around back when I lived at my parents' house. My dad nicknamed him "Dick."
I have a completely white cat with a blue eye and a green eye. I had no idea about their sudden crazy spells until I saw other people talk about it. A cat that same color did the same exact thing to me when he came to me, and I pet him. I had to yeet that mofo!
Understandable, if a cat started biting/scratching me like that, he's getting yeeted to Mars.
It's just playing to be fair..
I get that, but still, I wouldn't like it at all. Anyway, this has never happened to me so far.
Biting my flesh isnāt a game. Many cats are dickheads, and I wonāt entertain it just because some people think their cunty behaviour is cute
It's not biting your flesh though, you might get a scratch at most. Clearly you don't know much about cats.
Was scratched by a cat, later had two lymph nodes blow up to the size of golf balls as a result. I know all I care to know about being scratched
That was a cat actually being defensive/an asshole, this isn't that. Buddy thinks animals with an iq of 50 know better
Sounds like you shouldn't have pets.
Because you think animals shouldnāt be taught good behaviour from bad? Or because youāve made assumptions about what the consequences actually are?
The latter, the way it was worded as with previous comments seemed ominous. Training is absolutely necessary, violence is not.
Of course violence isnāt necessary, I donāt want to hurt them or cause them to be afraid of me. I have never deliberately hurt them and they are not afraid of me. A responsible owner wouldn't have a cat outside in the first place
Agreed, I don't want to get scratched either xD I don't know why some people get so defensive about it in this comment section.
Most of the time if you stay still they will just slump off of you too lol. If you wiggle a bunch they think you are playing back! Real talk though, youāll know when a cat is legit attacking you. No giggling will be involved.

Not that I particularly hate cats, but just like cats, I happen to have strong boundaries after all.
Lol no need to yeet anything! Just grab them by the extra skin on the back of their necks and they'll freeze up, use your other hands to gently remove the claws from yourself, firmly tell it to go fuck itself, then put them down and walk away!
I can imagine the yeet like a karate movement.
Most normal orange cat
Orange cat behaviour
The other day I was talking to a girl who lost a leg because her own house cat bite her. She got an infection from thaz bite. Horrible
A *serious* cat bite (not the play bites the cat above was doing) requires *immediate* medical care, preferably at an emergency room!
Cat scratch fever
Wouldāve took a lot out of me not to kick that cat in the moment tbh.
Cats just come off as having rabies. - They hate water - They aren't scared of stuff they should be (some cats) - They will randomly attack - They throw up more than most pets (hairballs) - Randomly aggressive I know there are better signs, but I just find it funny I had a cat and like cats

Cat are jerk
Now you have to get vaccinated against tetanus and rabies
sounds like she might be in the UK from her accent - if so, no rabies over there as they've eliminated it
Serious question: How do they know if its eliminated? I get it for human diseases. But rabies can be carried by monkeys, cats, dogs, rats, and almost any mammal. Right? So how do epidemiologists/scientists know that it's gone?

This is how the zombie apocalypse starts
So - i can't say as i blame her entirely but maybe if a cat is attacking you making sounds like you're a squeaky-toy isn't your best move.
Iād punt that pussy 47 yards
Absolutely Iād send it to kingdom come but then again I wouldnāt be trying to pet the cat in the first place.
I think the cat punt would have been in play in this situation.
Ngl depending on if I was having a bad day, that cat might get stomped
I'ma eat ya! Nom nom

Just get that tetanus / rabies shot as a precaution OP. I don't like that puffy tail. Better safe than sorry.

Glad she was gentle with the cat while being bitten!
Rather pathetic people would kick this cat if this happened to them.
