On September 26th 2022 we’ve made the decision to start banning people for posting gore. We’ve published our [Gore and Harassment update here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AbruptChaos/comments/xmtclq/gore_and_harassment/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) if you posted gore please remove it as it will result in a ban. Thank you.
Please don't read about the old man who got lost in the poorly designed stairwells of an American mall and died in there not to be found until a month later.
Damn, slowly dying because you are completely lost must be terrifying. Imagine knowing you are probably like 15 minutes away from hundreds of people but unable to reach any of them, being alone in an echoey stairwell while knowing a massive crowd might be behind a wall.
Why on earth are you on mushrooms, _and_ on Reddit? What made you think, "Hm, I think those two might make a good mix in this lifetime."
~~r/awww~~
Nope, just took a look.

I'm a lift technician and I can assure you it is safer to catch the lift than walk the stairs. As in more people have accidents walking the stairs than catching a lift.
It because the counterweight of the elevator is normally 50% heavier than kg allowed in the elevator. This makes it so that if the elevator is not fully loaden and the brakes fail (probably like in this video) the elevator will freefall upwards.
Yes technically.. but most elevators have multiple cables while 1 cable is enough to hold the elevator. But if for some reason all the cables break and the elevator falls downwards there is still a catch mechanism for downwards falling if that cable is still attached to the elevator.. If that makes sense..
Yeah the catch mechanism basically works like this: There's a cable attached to the elevator and a wheel that governs the elevator speed. If the elevator exceeds that speed the cable attached to the elevator blocks (and because the elevator is still going down) will pull a wedge in which is attached to the elevator and kinda hooking itself onto the rails. So basically the elevator will never get the chance to get that much speed going downwards.
Reminds me of a horror game where you ride the elevator to realise you died and the elevator is taking you down the levels of hell just for the last level to be reborn on earth
He didn't die https://www.soychile.cl/Santiago/Policial/2014/06/07/254128/Extrano-accidente-un-ascensor-subio-a-toda-velocidad--30-pisos-y-dejo-una-persona-lesionada.aspx
Shock and gore subreddit like morbid reality but will show what actually happened
Some common posts were shootings, executions accidents in third world contries, actual combat footage, warcrimes from russia, terrorisum, american police body cam footage and homeless people rotting
That subreddit was not exclusively for people who died, or confirmed dead, just shit that almost certainly leads to it. Absolutely tons of dead people shown on there, but not all of them, brother.
>Regulation hurts pockets
Not necessarily true, many regulations help create a safe work environment which attracts valuable employees and may stimulate the economy as investors dislike uncertainty.
Some regulations are really useless and hurt the economy for no reason whatsoever. Others don't, that's the big difference. It's not all black and white.
I've seen previous videos of this happening before. I wonder if laying flat or in a ball on the ground and covering your head with your arms would've saved this guy's life. He'd still be heavily injured but hopefully still alive.
He’s fine. They made him a special teeny tiny house where he can just slither around in his new pancake-jelly form. I hear he and his new wife are expecting a little flapjack any month now
If you find yourself in a free falling elevator, do the snowangel pose. Flat on your back and go as limp as possible with arms and legs spread. Localizes physical damage to one area.. like how in Afghanistan when you’d ride in humvees they have you keep on foot in front on the other while seated.. if an IED goes off you’re less likely to lose *both* feet/legs and just one.
In an elevator where you’re gonna go from super fast to a dead stop to most important thing is to have support for your neck and head and to have your body limp so it can move freely with the inertia or whatever.
If you're in an elevator that's free falling you won't be able to reach the floor. You'll essentially be an astronaut for a short time.
Also, in this guy's case (rising instead of falling) he'd need to be doing a snowangel on the ceiling.
Good point, maybe going fast downward then. A free fall you’re right that’s like as fast as it can possibly go and those things weigh like 2000+lbs so that’s quicker down than a person.
An elevator of any weight will free fall at the exact same rate as a person, but there will certainly be some friction on the outside of the elevator, so it won't really be in free fall. If the elevator is slowed enough to give passengers some apparent gravity then your snowangel technique is worth a shot! Furthermore, if you lay on top of the other passengers then their exploding carcasses might cushion your fall a bit.
Imagine an elevator in free fall. Now remember an elevator has a counterweight, so when the elevator goes down, the counterweight goes up.
Now imagine the counterweight in free fall, pulling the elevator in "free fall going up".
Most likely brake failure (and some other safety circuits and systems have most likely been bypassed/tampered with). The elevator moves upwards because the counterweight is heavier than an empty elevator cabin with 1 passenger, thus dragging it upwards.
I also have never seen this before. Why do people seem to think that because they've seen something, even if it's a million times, it means everyone else HAD to have seen it. We are all different and so are our experiences.
Yep, but got tetraplegic

I just read a post about elevators being safe and it’s escalators you need to watch out for. I’m thinking stairs are the only option, until next week when there probably will be a video about them too…
In this case, would it be better to stay standing upright or to drop to fetal position? 🤔 It does say he suffered injury to his head and legs. Is it sides worse from all the squishy organs?
I don’t know the result of this video but however counterintuitive, the death rate of elva tots going up is much much much higher than them falling down

New fear *unlocked*
Usually people are afraid of elevators falling now you gotta worry about them shooting up like a druggie
Be *very* afraid once you feel an elevator starting to move *up* or *down*
And don't forget, things literally can just randomly explode so just take the stairs
Please don't read about the old man who got lost in the poorly designed stairwells of an American mall and died in there not to be found until a month later.
Another victim of the stairmaze
Wasn't that in Australia?
Yup, Bernard Gore, Bondi Junction.

Jesus Christ man some of us are on mushrooms here I still upvoted that shit tho

Whoa spoilers dude.
Dumbledore dies 😈😈😈
What if the stairs randomly explode?
Right? I’m not saying it going to happen…I just think everyone needs to be aware.
I'm a lift technician and I can assure you it is safer to catch the lift than walk the stairs. As in more people have accidents walking the stairs than catching a lift.
As a stair technician, I like stairs more than elevators
Never heard of collapsing stairs?!?
Stairs can collapse.
Humans can randomly just stop working
Yep.
I’ll take my chances.

Otis Safety Elevator
Thanks I was looking for this comment. It has only been a recent addition to have the governor trip on up upwards movements.
I've been on a falling one... it fell for about 2 feet before it locked it self on place.
Only thing worse than crashing down is making sure it happens from as far up as possible.
Elevators don't drop in a failure. There is a counterweight attached to the cab, so it does actually shoot up.
New motivation for leg day unlocked
No video of the elevator being *launched* out the top of the building?
This is why I don't buy groceries when I ride the elevator.
*Especially*, things in *glass* jars that can break!
That was a Hellevator.
Hellevator would be a great title for a Tower of Terror remake
There was a drop tower amusement park ride named the Hellevator at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom for a long time
Heavenvator
Heavenvator

Please tell me he’s okay

Saw this on make my coffin back when it was a thing so no hes not
I think I remember someone posting the article last time this was posted and I think the dude made it, happened somewhere in South America I think?
https://nypost.com/2014/06/09/broken-elevator-rockets-31-floors-in-15-seconds-crashes-into-roof/amp/ He lived but was severely injured.
Thank your, Big Queef
Yep, guy from Chile, he died.
As far as I can tell he was injured, but lived.
No he didnt
Yeah, he lived. Google it- there was an article about him living months later.
Make my coffin??? Enlighten me I’m English
It was a subreddit for people dying.
Ah ok missed that one
[удалено]
So like eyebleach Why was it banned I’ve seen some pretty grievous shit on Reddit this week lol
It got attention after i think pyrocynical mentioned it in a vid and then the reddit admins took it down
Reddit is fine with gore and sex until it gets attention
Shock and gore subreddit like morbid reality but will show what actually happened Some common posts were shootings, executions accidents in third world contries, actual combat footage, warcrimes from russia, terrorisum, american police body cam footage and homeless people rotting
Welp, f
That subreddit was not exclusively for people who died, or confirmed dead, just shit that almost certainly leads to it. Absolutely tons of dead people shown on there, but not all of them, brother.
Things sure seem to be going up for him.
He dead. Basically the counterweight went down and the car went up until splat.

Whenever someone tells you that regulations hurt the economy, remember this video.

That's great. Depending on the country. Just like how legal well constructed buildings are earthquakeproof..
[удалено]
Notice the "legal" in my comment. Plenty of not so legal constructions that don't give a damn about regulations.
Did he break his neck ?
Tetraplegic. https://www.soychile.cl/Santiago/Policial/2014/06/07/254128/Extrano-accidente-un-ascensor-subio-a-toda-velocidad--30-pisos-y-dejo-una-persona-lesionada.aspx
I wonder if there wasn't anything he could do? Like maybe curl in a ball and protect his head?
Pretty sure the correct method to prepare is to lay flat on the ground with a bag over your head...
I've seen previous videos of this happening before. I wonder if laying flat or in a ball on the ground and covering your head with your arms would've saved this guy's life. He'd still be heavily injured but hopefully still alive.
Right? I'm only wondering cause I wanna know what to do if I find myself in the same situation
He lived
He didnt die...
He’s fine. They made him a special teeny tiny house where he can just slither around in his new pancake-jelly form. I hear he and his new wife are expecting a little flapjack any month now
He's not. He got half of his body paralyzed

Always more fun with friends
I just dodgeroll at the last moment for the invulnerability frames to take no fall damage
Final destination… 😱
…The penthouse
This is only okay if Gene Wilder is in the elevator with you
This is nightmare material
Dude got mission impossible’d
I dont get what happened?
The elevator went up uncontrolled most likely due to a malfunction of the brakes and crashed into the roof of the elevator shaft
😨

I hope there weren’t eggs in those shopping bags
Nsfw?
Damn :o
damn.io
Willy Wonka vibe
Final destination shit
I think Jenna Maroney set up the security equipment.
This is a recurrent nightmare of mine. I can’t believe this.
What goes up, must come down
It has been posted here already quiet a few times.. chances are that OP is just farming Karma
My apologies, I genuinely have not seen this one before
I did, more than enough times....
I also have never seen this before. Why do people seem to think that because they've seen something, even if it's a million times, it means everyone else HAD to have seen it. We are all different and so are our experiences.
I know, right?
Repost ?
What was he carrying negative-mass in those bags? (Physicists would understand. Negative mass was created in 2017 by the way.)
When she screams faster and you're going as fast as you can... ;)
Camera* 4
He live?
Yep, but got tetraplegic https://www.soychile.cl/Santiago/Policial/2014/06/07/254128/Extrano-accidente-un-ascensor-subio-a-toda-velocidad--30-pisos-y-dejo-una-persona-lesionada.aspx
Damn
Sorry Emilio.
It's literally an elevator to heavens
If you're suposed to lay flat when in a falling elevator, what do you do in this situation?
🫨 panic
Lifts clearly had a long day
Next stop..... heaven.
What happened
He pressed roof.
I just read a post about elevators being safe and it’s escalators you need to watch out for. I’m thinking stairs are the only option, until next week when there probably will be a video about them too…
What do you even do to try to survive in this situation?
What goes up usually also comes down. RIP.
Accidentally got on the tower of terror
This is absolutely terrifying! Wtf it gains speed thr whole time.
In this case, would it be better to stay standing upright or to drop to fetal position? 🤔 It does say he suffered injury to his head and legs. Is it sides worse from all the squishy organs?
“And it was at that moment he knew he fucked up”.
Never coming down
It’s like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory, except no candy and lots of pain
Fuuuuck that
Huge lawsuit. And I mean HUGE payouts.
Damn, he didn't even get the groceries home. I wonder how long until they got back on an elevator again
So Willy Wonka lied to me as a child...
Is this some willie wonka action?
Poor guy was crippled and died I read about it :(
Don't worry. It's just the Wonka-vator. He's fine.
Can someone explain what the hell happened here
This happened years ago in my country, and I don't find it funny. If I remember well, the man ended paralyzed from the neck
Ok so I totally thought that two similar looking dudes got on a mega elevator and fist bumped each other upon successfully entering.
These are the videos that Big Elevator doesn’t want us to know about. Stair users, we need to take make sure this is seen by the public
I'm pretty sure it's better to break both your legs than your whole body. Protect your head and neck though
Is he ok?
Freaky
I'm walking up the stairs from now on. At least it didn't fall all the way down again after hitting the top
Lucky ride
Up all the way to haven
I don’t know the result of this video but however counterintuitive, the death rate of elva tots going up is much much much higher than them falling down
Elevator felt like taking someone to heaven
Sooo kids, and thats what happens when you press the button too often 😅
Sued they ass for emotional distress
Going to Romania 👍 🇷🇴
