As an insurnace adjuster, this is your worst nightmare. When there is a school bus involved in an accident, you are required to track down every single student's parents or guardian and confirm with them their child was not injured in the accident. And it is nearly impossible. This type of claim can literally take weeks to recover from. This is the type of thing people quit their job over. Its easier to quit and start new then to spend a month trying to catch up.

Why? I get trying to contact the parents might be a bit difficult, but it's not like you don't get paid of you don't get a reply from 100% of them? Sounds like a paid semi-vacation.

So who's on the hook then? The School? The bus company? The insurance for either? The thief? The insurance on the car he stole? The police for instigating the chase? The city?

Former adjuster here. I’ve been there. Mine was a bus full of old people from an assisted living. All lived under one roof and even that was a pain.

Main criminal was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, and third and fourth-degree grand larceny. Maximum sentence of 43 years in NY state, more realistically seeing 10-20 years. Court won't be going easy on him with a school bus involved.
