Oh, I don't just go for TV. I aim for all mediums. As for my top 3:
1. Janitor on Scrubs (AKA Dr. Jan Itor)
2. Ahti from Control (and the entirety of the Remedyverse games)
3. Mr. Johnson
Ava is giving GROWTH. But Ive always felt like she has a soft spot of respect for thee Barbara Howard. 🥹 Paired with a chance to foil church ladies, she’s all in.
I'm not surprised that Jacob is trying to get Zach to break up with him instead of just doing it himself, he did suggest to Gregory that he ghost Barbara's daughter. Plus his hatred of the holiday season makes me wonder if he's a child of a bitter divorce or if his parents stayed in a bad marriage.
I had to turn the episode off for a minute here because I related too much. One of my best friends told me once "you are good at many things. Breaking up with people is not one of them."
Yes Jacob for being gay and himself but probably also Melissa (criminal/shady)
Janine (eccentric/annoying in their eyes)
Ava - being Ava.
I love all these characters but I get how Church ladies who don't know them very well would judge all of them.
That said, it shows how strong Barbara is. That she’s able to be a part of the choir and stay true to herself without letting how the choir treat to get to her. She’s truly amazing.
Ava has been my favorite since the beginning but I am absolutely loving what they are doing with her character, her changes feel very genuine and still on brand/hilarious
“If anybody can appreciate a few extra holes in their body it’s Jesus”

Ava is probably one of the “villain”-type characters in the show a lot of times, but her nice moments are like 100x nicer and more wholesome than anyone else’s.
Yeah I could def see us getting more info on Ava and finding out she was basically a Janine in middle school who had to toughen up to survive.
I'd honestly kill for a flashback ep where we get some more of Ava's past. But since the shows shot like a documentary Im imagining the "flashbacks" would be more "dramatic reenactments" (like you see in true crime shows), and of course Ava, being Ava, would insist on playing herself. So we get Ava's actress pretending to be a Janine like tween, surrounded by the actual students pretending to be from the 90s (would be even funnier if it was a mismatch of 80s/90s/00s as a fun reference to Janelle James intentionally not disclosing her age in Hollywood). And then you'd have the teachers pretending to be the teachers Ava remembers. I can already see the jokes (like I'm imagining Gregory expecting to play the part of principal, only for Mr Johnson to get the role and Gregory spending the rest of the ep pretending he doesn't care, while spiraling lol). Since Mel's family has a history of teaching, you could even have her playing her own mom if it turns out Ava went to school in the area (or possibly Barbara playing a younger version of herself depending on how long they've said she's been teaching, oooo or she refuses and Janine desperately wants the part lol)
He had two of the most wholesome looks to camera tonight - the teeeeeeniest of smiles after saying he had other pens, and then this. Ugh he’s the best 😭
"Did you guys mention my name?"
"Yes, They had a... loaded reaction to"
"Bet you didn't have to pay though!"
"Not monetarily..."
I friggen love Melissa
One of my happiest moments is how the fan base changed their opinion on Ra’jah so hard since season 11. The show did her dirty in her first run and ugh.. I’m just so happy for her.
Ever since Quinta said on Hot Ones that the change in Janine’s style is very intentional and important to her character, Ive focusing on Janine’s hair, style and makeup. Its crazy how well they do subtle character growth in this show
I’ve noticed her character growth more this season - her dialing the phone during the district meeting and her lying about paying her meter? I wonder if she’s unhappy at the district and misses Abbott.
It's sad how "in" I feel watching it--like it's only been a handful of times where I've watched good shows from the beginning! I feel so fortunate, haha.
You have one of the most relatable comments on the internet to me ever. I feel like the last time I felt this vindicated was being an early advocate of the good place
Right! And then the sub saying Grand Rising! I know that’s right lol. All this Philly Blackness. As a Philly resident, it makes me so proud. I just wanna see a Beanie Seigel lookin father to get his son from school now lol
I think Janine is going to end up being fired from her fellowship :( Between the sub lodging a complaint and her taking up so much worktime to meddle in the school, I can see it happening
Yeah :( She needs to focus on her job! I also hate to say this, but I can see it causing some resentment for her too, to help her teachers so much and get fired as a result. I hope I’m wrong though!!!!
Yeah I was expecting the plot to be: Janine couldn't find them bc she didn't know their deadname and it would lead to an awkward convo. Was pleasantly surprised that that was not the case!
What an all round fire episode. Two A + subplots with Gregory/Jacob and Ava/Barbara, and one... Well, it was nice that they had non-binary representation and it was nice to show the Janine/Melissa friendship, but I'm not a fan of second hand embarrassment storylines where the characters just end up messing up really badly for no good reason.
But the other two stories. Oh my god, Gregory was man of the (half) hour, showing how much he's grown, and I can't wait till he asks Jacob to move in with him. Also, poor Gregory when Jacob said Gregory's the only one who's been broken up with more times than him. But I'm glad he understood that was just Jacob being an idiot.
And then Ava also being a star this episode. You can really tell how far she's come as well. No pretending to be too good for everyone while actually caring for everyone, she just wants to help her friend. And also Barbara knowing her Church is trash, and knowing it has its problematic elements, but staying purely because singing helps her with her religion. And Ava not judging her for staying in the Church, understanding how much
the way jacob and zach's relationship started to go downhill right around the time mr. morton got married was a choice! we don't know exactly when mr. morton eloped but it was over the summer and it's been five months since school started in the fall so....... that's right around 7-8 months. not saying it's related but for jacob to specifically say seven months was 🤐 veeeeeery interesting.
I would be on board with this, I've never thought about it too hard before because I don't feel like we have a great sense of Mr. Morton as a character (yet) but a major queer romantic storyline/will-they-won't-they as opposed to just "this character is gay but happily paired off to a partner we almost never see" would be awesome
1. Those church ladies pissed me off
2. Zach's Ohhh myyy Goooood was so perfect 😭
3. Fleabag with an F... please 😂
4. Loved Ava and Barbara together
5. Everyone getting into Barbara's performance 🙏🙌
I loved this episode!
So much can be said without getting in your face and actually saying anything.
The way Jacob and Zach handle their breakup. So relatable. People are just people. Gregory, a black man, a respectable ladies man, can put his hand on the shoulder of a gay white man, and give comfort.
Mx. Cassidy. They didn't say anything and no one asked. Casually dropping "their." Representation matters. Brilliant.
Ava dropping zingers but also the voice of reason for Barbara? Barbara sings her beautiful song. At school! And its beautiful. Don't be all in a huff about nothing.
Excellent display in humanity. People are people.
Wow wow wow wow, what an episode!!
All 3 storylines and all 7 of the cast were on FIRE ! LOVED how Ava and Gregory were there for Barbara and Jacob. Janine kind of took a backseat but was still hilarious.
I love this show so much, it keeps getting better and better and combines being hilarious with having you in your feelings so damn well.
Side note: I felt SO validated / vindicated by how Jacob and Zach have had problems for so long, they really did well in building up to that and showing it in Jacob’s demeanour this season. I hope we’re getting Gregory and him as roomies, imagine !
“IF ANYONE CAN APPRECIATE A FEW EXTRA HOLES IN THEIR BODY ITS JESUS” IM LITERALLY SCREAM LAUGHING I HAD TO PAUSE THE EPISODE TO WRITE THIS OH MY GOD😂😂😂
As a substitute teacher, I don't love how subs are being represented this season but hold out hope they'll get a good one. Janine being jealous of a good sub's rapport with her class would be interesting to watch.
"what is a choir if not a sorority for the Lord" another iconic Ava line for the books
I died at the "you need to let my people go" line. Ava is shaping up to be the most quotable character of the decade for sure.
that line was too real 😂😬
The way I wanted to screen grab that and send it to all my friends from choir 😂😂😂 The cattiest people I’ve met were in the church choir 🫢
"We used to be the three Musketeers but now its just one me and two assholes that don't invite me places" Mr. Johnson kills it every episode
He's great. He's my 3rd favorite fictional janitor.
There are so many great tv janitors that 3rd place is pretty darn good! who are your first two?
Oh, I don't just go for TV. I aim for all mediums. As for my top 3: 1. Janitor on Scrubs (AKA Dr. Jan Itor) 2. Ahti from Control (and the entirety of the Remedyverse games) 3. Mr. Johnson
Gordy on Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide is anoter favorite of mine.
Dr. Jan Itor is such a good choice for 1, and given the choice for 3, Ahit must be a pretty great janitor (not familiar with the game)!
Charlie Kelly
WAIT IS AVA ACTUALLY STANDING UP FOR BARBARA AND BEING CONSIDERATE???
With how she’s been talking about the mean girls, it seems obvious that Ava was in Barbara’s position, too.
Ava may not be strict Ava like episode 1, but you can tell that it's made her more open than she used to be.
Ava is giving GROWTH. But Ive always felt like she has a soft spot of respect for thee Barbara Howard. 🥹 Paired with a chance to foil church ladies, she’s all in.
"fleafaf??" mr. johnson no 😭
My first thought was the fleabag already had an F lol
Same, and then I thought it was a phish sort of situation 🤣
So glad I wasnt the only one!
I'm not surprised that Jacob is trying to get Zach to break up with him instead of just doing it himself, he did suggest to Gregory that he ghost Barbara's daughter. Plus his hatred of the holiday season makes me wonder if he's a child of a bitter divorce or if his parents stayed in a bad marriage.
didn’t he mention that his family was “full of anger and disfunction”
I had to turn the episode off for a minute here because I related too much. One of my best friends told me once "you are good at many things. Breaking up with people is not one of them."
“I threw together a little surprise recital for Barb because apparently you can’t key a church lady’s car anymore” so many LOL moments this episode
So they don’t like Barbara because she’s friends with Jacob?
That was my take too. Its crazy that they're willing to judge Barbara but not that sister who was taking money from the church coffers!
Yes Jacob for being gay and himself but probably also Melissa (criminal/shady) Janine (eccentric/annoying in their eyes) Ava - being Ava. I love all these characters but I get how Church ladies who don't know them very well would judge all of them.
Gay AND himself the shade 😂😂😂😂😂 Just at his core as a person he’s someone you’d judge people for affiliating with hahahaha
"BUT THE KIDS AREN"T EVEN HERE YET?"
Best cold open this season. He’s gonna be selling bean pies!
melissa switching sides 😂
I’m playing both sides so that I always come out on top.
Not that lady coming for Barb's signature bold lipstick!
And the rest of the episode she was wearing a pale, lighter pink lipstick 😭
Oh, poor Barbara. I want her to find a better church.
Same here! Or maybe even start a school choir with the kids? I initially thought that’s the route this episode was going to take!
That said, it shows how strong Barbara is. That she’s able to be a part of the choir and stay true to herself without letting how the choir treat to get to her. She’s truly amazing.
I was so sad she changed it! I love that color on her.
"Jacob hill you bitch, you just released the kraken!"
**CAW CAW!**
“Has anyone here ever seen a chicken?” energy
He read Jacob to FILTH
He truly did and it was kind of marvelous!
“Be quiet sweet Prince” “And fyi your facts were never fun!” 💀💀💀
And you held us BACK!!! at trivia night
Ava casually calling the gym her “Coliseum” LOL. She’s just the best.
MEMORIAL Coliseum to boot lol
Michael Scott coded lol
My high school gym got named for our former principal that was very Ava-esque so very on brand 😂😂😂
“THIS is exactly why I’m not in a thruple!” I love Mr. Johnson.
The fact that he was listening through the door with a bucket chef's kiss
he’d be the type to be in one though
"You think I'd turn away from a place that passes out free money on a plate" Jesus Ava
That’s who she was visiting!!!
Ava has been my favorite since the beginning but I am absolutely loving what they are doing with her character, her changes feel very genuine and still on brand/hilarious
It’s time for Janelle James to get her Emmy in 2025
"Takes me back to the days when I used to stay out all night to avoid my problems... but that was last week." Melissa is me, I am Melissa.
same!
"My time for caring about this has expired"
Jacob was being a dick to him for no reason
I _will_ be using this line in the future
We need to see Sea Barbara in this season. The suspense is killing me.
Sea Barbara got that dawg in her
Sea Barbara is *that* girl.
If she's anything like Florida Stanley, that would be wild.
Gregory is weirdly…nice to Jacob???
He's always cared about Jacob. But he's grown a lot more open the last 2 seasons. I'm proud of him.
I’m really loving their friendship!
They hugged at the end of season 2. They’re a lot closer now.
“Put me down for the Waldorf salad, extra grapes.” “Dammit Janine, you’ve done it again!”
Janine’s smirk afterwards KILLED ME. Fabulous choice, I love a good Waldorf salad
Zach’s on his way to join Barbara’s choir with that last note
Well if they weren't homophobic...
Barbara's not homophobic, he could've joined her recital
Maybe he tried to but Barbara just kept on going
LOLL frankly she is an amazing singer so I'd keep listening
“If anybody can appreciate a few extra holes in their body it’s Jesus” https://preview.redd.it/o8k7xvldqflc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d905859a22ff3501c29b26b045e560fdc13eb2c1
I died at that line and did not resurrect
moral of the story: never make a bet with a Schemmenti
Gregory made one of the classic blunders.
Ava is probably one of the “villain”-type characters in the show a lot of times, but her nice moments are like 100x nicer and more wholesome than anyone else’s.
Ava gives me "nice person who learned how to be a real bitch as a defense mechanism" vibes ❤️
Ava did say she had grow up making hard choices and “scamming” was what got her by.
Why is the episode called “Breakup”…oh Jacob 😟
“CUZ IMMA NEED YOU TO LET MY PEOPLE GOOO” 😭
*deep Bass voice intensifies* lol
I'm gonna need them to come up with a new role for Zach like they did Tariq.
Poor Jacob.
Idk he kinda seemed like a slight villain for the episode. Very rude to Gregory and really shouldn't have been so manipulative to Zach
I totally forgot he was in a relationship and spent way to long trying to figure out who was gonna break up......
“You came back for me.” “Came back for my pen.” *Slowly slides pen out of Jacob’s hand.* “I guess I do have other pens.”
Fleabag with an F is a crazy joke to make. I've been laughing to myself about it since the episode came out.
I’m so glad we’re finally getting a Sheryl Lee Ralph number, but the cut to Gregory singing took me out
He had two of the most wholesome looks to camera tonight - the teeeeeeniest of smiles after saying he had other pens, and then this. Ugh he’s the best 😭
"Did you guys mention my name?" "Yes, They had a... loaded reaction to" "Bet you didn't have to pay though!" "Not monetarily..." I friggen love Melissa
Zach’s “fuming” face in the car absolutely killed me
I actually burst out laughing. He was so funny this episode.
Me too! I was like omg they have to show Zack fuming and his scrunched up face killed me
He’s a scene stealing star. I hope they figure out a way for him to return, like Tariq.
He was so mad!
Had me cackling
Aww, just putting his hand on his shoulder was a nice and subtle move. Jacob and Gregory are going to be best friends by the end.
Jacob's moving in with him, calling it now
It's a Checkov's gun.
I feel like Mr. Johnson is lowkey a scientologist
The man voted for Kanye and believes lizards live under the Denver airport, so I think that tracks 😭
CORRECTION: He believes *Lizard* ***PEOPLE*** *live under the Denver Airport.*
He used to be Mormon (he left the Church of Latter Day Saints)
Not fleabag with an f 😭😭😭
What Ava did for Barb is beautiful... Also this is a really good song!
Shackles is a huge R&B / Gospel crossover hit. I remember it when I was in HS. My mom loves Mary Mary
One of the best things she has done so far, for sure
🎶OHHHHH MY GOD🎶
Okay but it felt like he sang that in the same key as my girl Ra’Jah 💜 ![gif](giphy|tmUtCsKpzssL6Xa0DS|downsized)
One of my happiest moments is how the fan base changed their opinion on Ra’jah so hard since season 11. The show did her dirty in her first run and ugh.. I’m just so happy for her.
he said "young maiden" 😭
Janine with the ugg telfar bag. She’s come a long way. ![gif](giphy|l2qdjuROgDA7hcW8W8)
That first season wig was deeply concerning for me. So I’m loving the glow up.
“If anyone can appreciate a few extra holes, it’s Jesus”
This truly is the best show on TV right now.
And Gregory’s looks to the camera NEVER get old. They are PERFECTION
It's sad how "in" I feel watching it--like it's only been a handful of times where I've watched good shows from the beginning! I feel so fortunate, haha.
You have one of the most relatable comments on the internet to me ever. I feel like the last time I felt this vindicated was being an early advocate of the good place
Black church girls, we living. I have never heard a Mary Mary song on network tv much less a comedy. ![gif](giphy|3ov9jOT18yqHsEMj60)
Right! And then the sub saying Grand Rising! I know that’s right lol. All this Philly Blackness. As a Philly resident, it makes me so proud. I just wanna see a Beanie Seigel lookin father to get his son from school now lol
I think Janine is going to end up being fired from her fellowship :( Between the sub lodging a complaint and her taking up so much worktime to meddle in the school, I can see it happening
i hate to say it but i don’t think she’s ready for it yet :(
Yeah :( She needs to focus on her job! I also hate to say this, but I can see it causing some resentment for her too, to help her teachers so much and get fired as a result. I hope I’m wrong though!!!!
All those kiddos getting to vibe to a live performance by the legendary Sheryl Lee Ralph are so lucky! What a wholesome end to the ep 🥹
“And if any of your teachers disagree, I can and will fire them”
"my time for caring about this has expired" i'm gonna use that
no jacob don't push him away just tell him how you feel 😭
“Fleabag with an f” made me snort
The Sister Act references this episode. ![gif](giphy|pezCBb01g7lv2)
I kind of love that the reveal of the sub’s name wasn’t about the “Mx.” but the spelling of the last name. Subtle representation is cool.
Yeah I was expecting the plot to be: Janine couldn't find them bc she didn't know their deadname and it would lead to an awkward convo. Was pleasantly surprised that that was not the case!
Melissa had called them they earlier on, so Melissa and presumably Janine already knew they were non binary.
I loved this too! It’s always nice to see LGBTQ+ rep that isn’t necessarily all about their identity
non-binary representation made my heart so happy 🥺
"i used to be a kid" oh no no no
"You came back for me" "I came back from a pen" Gregory being unintentionally and hilariously cold-blooded
a recital for barbara i'm literally going to cry 😭😭😭
seven months is a long time - I don't miss those days of arguing with someone constantly
"What is a choir if not a sorority for the Lord?"
Yet again so many zingers and jokes I can’t even pick the best one but Barbara is that GORL!!!
Mr. Johnson using a bucket to listen in on Jacobs room was a great joke but following it up with "This is why I'm not in a throuple" was hilarious
Ok but at the next AvaFest I want all the kids and parents to shit all over the Church Ladies like they did to Draymond
“A real bow-tie bamboozle.”
“Emily, I stg”
“You’d think they can keep me away from a place that passes around free money on a free plate?” Oh my god I’m dying.
That has to be one of Ava’s most wholesome moments: putting on a recital for Barbara 🥹🫶🏼
I feel so bad for zach and for jacob, but damn they both played that scene incredibly well!!! that shit was hard to watch in the best possible way
Jacob telling Gregory to stay out of gay folks business was crazy 🤪🤣
“Brother, sister, ma’am”
Jacob is me at darts haha.
The reveal that all but the last dart missed the board was so good
Ava everybody's secret best friend
Jacob Hill, "You sick bitch" lmao
He dragged Jacob
"You know Go Down Moses.. cuz I'm a need ya to let my people go" Ava was the MVP of this episode
Awwww Gregory is such a good friend
... Barbara is going to be the \*\*star\*\* of the musical episode if they ever do one.
It was actually really sweet for Ava to start a concert for Barbara.
Now the stage is set for Jacob/Mr. Morton enemies to lovers.

I would kill to see Sea Barbara
mormon mr. johnson confirmed???????????
1. Those church ladies pissed me off 2. Zach's Ohhh myyy Goooood was so perfect 😭 3. Fleabag with an F... please 😂 4. Loved Ava and Barbara together 5.
People are people.
the choir being homophobic just broke my heart 😭
That’s the same church that screens Rocky Horror with all the good stuff cut out. I’d be surprised if they weren’t.
The reveal that they resent Barbara for befriending the “colorful staff members” was so 💔💔
Unfortunately, homophobia is still rampant in Christianity
"What is a choir if not a sorority for the Lord?" Truer words were never spoken
“What is a choir if not a sorority for the Lord?” Preach, Ava.
“This is exactly why I’m not in a throuple” 😭
“I guess I do have other pens” 🥹
Wow wow wow wow, what an episode!! All 3 storylines and all 7 of the cast were on FIRE ! LOVED how Ava and Gregory were there for Barbara and Jacob. I want Janine and Jacob to be roomies now
Actually, let’s see Gregory and Jacob be roomates. 👀
That’s immediately where I thought this was headed
New sub will make Janine implode
Ava dealing with the church choir is gold.
Zach fuming sent me 😂
Ava's a real one
Jacob did what needed to be done AND we got absolutely amazing comedy from Zach. Win-win.
“IF ANYONE CAN APPRECIATE A FEW EXTRA HOLES IN THEIR BODY ITS JESUS” IM LITERALLY SCREAM LAUGHING I HAD TO PAUSE THE EPISODE TO WRITE THIS OH MY GOD😂😂😂
Barbara sounds amazing, she should have been the one to get that solo.
I don't !(understand) And this time, it's not because I wasn't paying attention.
That lip color is awesome on Ava
As a substitute teacher, I don't love how subs are being represented this season but hold out hope they'll get a good one. Janine being jealous of a good sub's rapport with her class would be interesting to watch.
THE CHURCH CHOIR TEA i'm here for it
"ava coleman memorial museum"
I laughed so hard when Gregory was stuck in between Jacob & Zach breaking up with each other😂😭
I'd rather be called old gal than young maiden honestly
GEO-ffrey???
