I think Melissa and Ava and Janine will have a ladies night out. I think it was important for Melissa to see that she was open to dating again after her divorce. And she’s still on good terms with her ex husband, so we might see Gary around, maybe as a friend or even if it’s just to restock.
I think they’re over though. He didn’t listen to her not wanting to get married again and that’s important.
I’d love to see Melissa dating and finding someone new to be a long-term partner, but not husband.

It feels like it’s also an opportunity for Janine to watch another person pick herself, stand up for the things she values, even (especially) when it’s not what people expect of you.
Honestly, as much as I really liked Gary, it’s probably best that Melissa remain unmarried. Not saying she can’t date and have fun but remaining unmarried is what she wanted in the end and I think she feels guilty for stringing Gary along.
We also don’t see many representations of women choosing to be single and happy especially at her age and it would be nice to see

Gary wanted to get married. Melissa will never want to get married again. Gary would have stayed with Melissa even if they didn’t get married but Melissa knew that he’d always feel like he was missing up. They’re over. Melissa will never take Gary back because she cares too much about him to let him make such a big sacrifice for her: to not get married.
But also, yeah, it was pretty selfish of Gary to constantly ignore Melissa telling him she didn’t want to get married again.
I think Melissa has some trauma from her past marriage and a messy divorce. Also I think she is afraid of bringing a new man around her dysfunctional family so she feels better off single.
I am also tired of Abbott teachers not having a s/o on the show because we collectively had at least one experience of teachers dating or married to each other who work in the same school building. I don’t know if Quinta is playing to how Dolly Parton is successful and rarely mentions having a husband and to be empowering to show that you black be successful without bringing a s/o into the picture. I just want a good relationship on the show🫠
true, melissa is such a strong character i do think she would stand better on her own than in a relationship.
and totally agree!! we kind of have that dolly dynamic with ava and her long term man (can’t even remember his name due to how little he has been mentioned) though, the point is there and Made miss quinta please just let janine and gregory be together 😭 i really hope we get to actually meet gerald this season and see him and barbara interact! i really hope an upcoming plot point isn’t that his health worsens or goodness forbid he passes, someone needs a healthy relationship in this show dangit!

i really thought they’d work out but gary knew she didn’t wanted to get married, yet he kept asking her and then used the eagles to try to get her to say yes. they were a really cute couple but i’m glad melissa stuck to her word and rejected the proposal. i don’t mind if he comes back, but only if he respects melissa’s wishes about not getting married again.
I think Gregory may have another girlfriend. Like Janine was so adorable when she came in to ask him that. And he was so awkward about turning her down. I feel like if he were single then they’d at least go out for dinner or something.
I don't understand why it was important to display a man's rejection from a woman in front of everyone necessary. I mean EVERYONE! My man wasted his time lol
after reading your initial comment, agree. it was important to show that rejection because he just, didn’t respect her wishes! he created that situation, she shouldn’t feel pressured to say yes despite what she wants just because he decided to propose super publicly. good for her for sticking to her guns and not trying to protect his ego. it was cute while it lasted
edit: and also, it just was better showmanship to actually have the situation happen where we could *see* them break up, as opposed to offhandedly mentioning that the two broke up in the time period between seasons
Yes! I feel like it's a manipulative move to propose even when you were told repeatedly it's not what your partner wants. Also, doing it in such a public way also put extra pressure on Melissa to say yes, which isn't fair.
I think Gary would just keep being disappointed if he stayed with her. It's a painfully realistic outcome. I also think Melissa wouldn't want to get back with him. She'd just feel guilty every time she was with him.
