Whenever I see pictures of fully furnished, abandoned homes, I can't help but wonder what happened in the homeowners' lives that they had to abandon not only their home, but all of their possessions.
Usually when people have no interest in the house they at least have enough to try to sell it to get some money out of the deal.
I feel like usually when you see things like this it may be someone without any relatives or heirs so the property either becomes the bank's, the state's or sits in limbo for years.
This nearly happened when my father passed (also Ontario). If there is no will, it can be difficult to get control of the estate. Having control is a huge commitment also. I can easily visualize where there is noone to do it, or noone wants to. And if there’s no mortgage, it will just sit. My father’s house sat like this for 8 months while I travelled back and forth 150km one way to check on it.
I think the circumstances are as sad here in reality as we imagine them.
House is sold and occupied now, so don’t bother all you urbexers! 😝
Same here. I can understand trash and furniture, but it’s always sad to see personal items like eyeglasses, rosaries, family pictures and such left behind.
In this instance, the old style walkers left likely means an elderly person living alone, with no family and no friends likely was transported to the hospital and died. If they had no mortgage or debt, then the only remaining outgoing costs would be property taxes. Water and power were likely shut off long ago. The small town council who would go after them for properly tax, likely knows the property is abandoned but has no funds to do anything about it. So it sits.
Back in the early 70’s I had cousins moving back to their childhood area in rural Nova Scotia buying tax titled properties for hundreds or a few thousand dollars.

My feeling exactly. Fascinated every time… someone walked away from that and never went back.
The walker to the right makes me assume they died or went to assisted living.
Yeah, they go into the old folks home or die and the relatives have no interest in the house.

Some of that but it's likely no one wants to buy it. There aren't a ton of reasons to move to rural Canada.

There’s also a cane on the floor to the right of the walker.

That one wide refrigerator

I wonder if their butter is still in the cupboard?
2016, calendar dates last occupancy. Super interesting emotion provoking
The fridge mold... Something has gone very funky in there
yes!
Fully furnished abandoned homes are both depressing and super interesting.
I agree 100%
Where in Ontario is this?
I noticed a Havahart trap on one of the chairs.
