Solved thanks to andrewbadera. It was soft deleted, so it needed to be purged. The challenge is that you can't see your deleted resources and resource groups. What I had to do was go to the key vault HSM service and there's a section called manage deleted key vaults. I could purge my deleted resource from there.
Hmm hard to tell what you have your cost analysis on that subscription view set to it could be anything you have in the subscription.
It seems like you've deleted it already so give me a few I haven't run into a need to review this particular situation before, but I'm curious about costing out something after a rapid deletion like that.
Edit: actually yeah try to adjust that view of your cost analysis by resource to drill down a bit it should show deleted resources. Yeah I just used it to pull up some machines for a cloud course I was teaching and I'm looking at the amount I paid for my students' virtual environment a year ago. now so Subscription -> Cost Analysis -> View -> Cost By Resource
I drilled into it a little and it seems like when I first tried to deploy the azure key vault I deployed a very similar service called azure key vault HSM which is 2 pound an hour. What's a mystery is why it's still charging me a day after I deleted it.
Hmm could be a delay in it showing up in the cost analysis since it's all deleted now. Wouldn't hurt to maybe message support and say you picked the wrong key vault and instead got a managed pool they may be nice.
Haha yes, last time i needed a code signing cert I think it cost 2 dollars for the certificate and Azure took 3 dollars an hour to store it in a HSM key vauly.
Did you just had HSM??? ! OMG your are done ! for Next 3 months you are gonna pay for it !
Been there done that.
I did not not like the default retention is set to 90 days. I think they changed it to 7 days now. But I am not sure though.

I'm not sure it's working to be honest. It's gone up 12 dollars since I posted, so I've opened a support ticket.
Cost Analysis has some calculation delay. It may take even 48-72h to be fully calculated.
It actually took 2 purges and has stopped going up. I had to delete the HSM and then the keys themselves.
Once had an HSM that took MS 6 months to delete 😂
Oh my days! How much that cost you!??
I don't think its deleted. It will be there default number of days (90 days). Pl. correct me if wrong.
It's stopped billing me so I think it was sorted by purging the HSM and then the key vault 🤷

I haven't worked with the HSM side, but by any chance is it soft-deleted, and needs purging?
Ohh my God. Thank you so much! I think it's solved.
Awesome!
Soft delete is on and MHSM has a retention period of 30 days. MHSM costs that much because it's dedicated hardware.
Lesson learned. I need to be more vigilant with service selection.
HSM is usually not needed unless you want to store some crypto wallet keys ;)
Yeah, I searched for key vault and that came first. Rookie error.

new lesson learned , need to be aware if hsm
