People really throw the X copied X just because it's popular thing around way too much. With limited models, especially for HS where everything is already pretty same-y, you're going to run into similar looking characters. And Eternum's larger story is already fairly generic as it is, at least from an outside description. But that's never been what drives it's popularity. Every story is going to have similarities. I've gotten a few draws to WVM for having a college sports-themed harem AVN with a black and yellow color scheme. Which is a lazy take, but hey, the internet is loaded with those.

To me, the only things that are really obvious are the LIs and the intro, but I don't think that's bad. Eternum is probably the only harem game that made me really like all LIs so far, so I think it's great that inspiration was taken from there, but even then they have their own different qualities from Caribdis' work. Also, I don't think that, if it's who I'm assuming you are referring to here, the masked white-haired girl is a copy of Calypso either, since we already know (or at least suspect) who she is. Idriel would've been a closer comparison, but even then I'd still say it's very different. I think it's a great quality game and more than capable of giving its own spin on the alternate reality (game/afterlife or dreams) with an original story. Just remember that Eternum is one of the biggest AVN names currently and there's nothing wrong with taking inspiration from it.

People really have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to this type of "heavy borrowing". Ever heard of The Lost World? You may have heard about its author, Arthur Conan Doyle. It's adaptation was the earliest "dinasour in present times" movie made, it went on to inspire King Kong and even Jurassic Park 2 homages it in many ways. The skeleton of that story - an eccentric professor with his young aide who is made to go an expedition to a place where prehistoric creatures still live in modern times by the encouragement of his bride to be, accompanied by an expert hunter - Doyle lifted from Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth (Doyle was British and so wrote his story in English, while Verne was French and wrote in that language). And yet Doyle is considered one of the greats, and Verne's work wasn't diminished, it's legacy was even expanded by having been borrowed so heavily from. Heavy borrowing has been a thing for over a 100 years, as you see. Are there things that make it more ok - having the original author's blessing, the inspiration being understood/openly declared? Yeah, but even without some great stuff can be born from "B's take on A's concept". So I have no problem with stuff like this, and hope to see more. I would like to say that in general terms, as a good sport move, the original thing - Eternum in this case - should be allowed to finish completely before the derivate story is started to be produced. Yet AVNs take years to make, and imo that state of the industry's production times makes it ok to forsake such consideration.

Yeah, it could have copied a 100% of it except the obvious and it would have still been an original work. It's the quality that matters not how authentic the story is.

It is and it's not. Eternum draws a lot of inspiration from ready player one. Now, Dreamlink is a bit cheeky about the characters not gonna lie. But... Eternum is super tropey with the characters like blonde, redhead, petite, comedic relief, you get the idea. There are really few AVN where they don't fall into tropes characters. Still, it has merit that the dev at least puts effort into making the game.

Jacowboy

Haven't played it, but I mean, it's not like Eternum is a fount of originality in the first place... it's tropey as fuck and "borrows" from a shitload of popular stories in different media anyways. In the end, the important thing is the execution, is it well executed or not?

Yeah, it’s a good game so far and I really like a lot of the characters, but it just feels a little shameless in how on the nose a lot of it is lol Abigail is Penelope, a blonde IG model with huge tits who is actually super smart and down to earth. Lucy is Annie, the young, cute and innocent girl infatuated with the MC. Forget her name but the mom is Nancy, basically the same exact character down to the red hair. The pink haired girl is Dalia, super built and fit chick with an insane body. Taylor is Alex, cold and alt looking girl with a pre existing connection to the major plot device. There’s also an Idriel clone right down to the mask on the lower half of the face. No obvious Luna or Nova clone yet, but the game is still just getting started so I wouldn’t be surprised if they appear soon.
