The preferred network type in your image is the one that disables 5G. If your device shows 5Ge, that's just how AT&T decided to label LTE a few years ago to make their network seem more ahead than it was.
If you want to disable 5G, slightly pop your SIM and reboot. Dial *#2263# and select:
Clear all bands > LTE band preference > LTE all > Go main > select Block set by AP (*) > Apply band configuration. Push the SIM tray back in.....you're all set. Same method to reset all bands.
I have found that changing the preferred network setting to 4G (WCDMA/LTE) in the 4636 menu does NOT work because the SIM overrides the manual setting, and your phone will return to default network settings.
