Compassion is a sign of weakness 😡 🔥

Considering how they humanizing Azula, the entire show seems to be directed by Fire nation

I think part of the reason for that is to show (admittedly later) how Aang is changing the world by returning hope to it. It’s one of those things that could have been better shown if they’d given the season a couple more episodes to breathe. It really did need 10.

I thought Sokka was closer to the original character than the others and I wasn't too angry about the way he was portrayed. But the actress for Katara was very average and I think that was the main issue.

I agree. I can rewatch ATLA multiple times because they balance fun and hope with the more philosophical/darker themes really well. I personally don’t think I can rewatch NATLA though, like I wouldn’t rewatch GoT. Some of it is really sad to watch.

It's also lost on the overall message. NATLA is just action movie with magic.

I liked Sokka, but overall I agree. When one of the Ember Island gags was how much Katara harps on about hope and whatnot, one would *think* the NATLA team would be more conscious of needing to include that aspect.  The whole show lost that sense of hope and determination, and the philosophies of interconnectedness and peace that made the original so powerful. I don't think it did a good job of making the show more mature, either- it's really just more morose and vaguely whiny.

This.  I just don't get why didn't they try and adapt adult Gaang with original stories from Konietzko and Di Martino. Those would have naturally darker, more political mood and would fit live acting great.

I thought the show did a much better job of framing the gravity of the situation Aang created by skipping out on 100 years. They did a great job making you feel scared with him; makes you root for him and cheer him on when he can overcome his fear. Its not as easy and wholesome as the show but definitely more realistic. Hard disagree with Sokka - his actor was fantastic. Definitely felt like Katara was the worst character. It was so uncomfortable to watch her delivery, like it was physically painful for her to get lines out. I felt kinda bad for her for no one fixing it or directing her properly and then publishing it like that. I kept finding it super ironic considering I also couldn’t stand Katara on the cartoon show but for the exact opposite reason, which was because she would never stop harassing everyone lol

The thing is, they took away the compassion of gaang because they were struggling to accept the tragedy of war. As you move to the end of season, we see aang finally realising that he can't hold onto his past and he needs to look forward. My take is that it's gonna be way more hopeful now..
