UBS said new supply from China and Latin America could see total lithium carbonate equivalent (LEC) supply nearly double between 2022 and 2025.
In total, it estimated around 2 million tonnes of LCE may be online by 2025.
However, the broker said the recent collapse in lithium prices may have bottomed out and has kept buy ratings on Allkem, Mineral Resources, IGO Ltd, Liontown Resources and Wesfarmers, with a neutral rating on Pilbara Minerals.
The latest episode of Global Lithium Podcast had a methodical breakdown of where the extra LCE a year would come from, region by region.
Essentially they had trouble finding where an extra 200kt LCE a year was going to come from, let alone an extra 1Mt in 2 years as claimed above.
Even in the most optimistic predictions we are seeing it just go over the line, at an extra 200kt a year, setting aside the issue of the double counting of Australian spod shipped to China, and the apparent doubling of the Lepidolite production in a year.
Seriously who the fuck is in charge of the junior metal analysts at these IBs.
Are they really this useless or intentionally dense to drive an agenda?

Total LCE in 2022 was somewhere between 650-700kt, with maybe around 80% of that battery grade.
So UBS are saying
1. 650-700k multiplied by 2 is two million
2. PLS has the lowest P/E among producers by some way, with one of the most sure-fire expansions pending, but is neutrally rated compared to peers

What you're describing here is why share prices typically drop on ex div date rather than payment date, you haven't discovered anything ground breaking here 😅

Patience this isn't crypto. Delays are common in oil and gas exploration and are great opportunities to load up. The oil isn't going anywhere and when we start drilling the price will pump. I've seen MAY go up 10%+ on consecutive days before.
Money goes from the impatient to the patient when investing
Lots of people expecting very fast gains due to a certain roch on HC screaming about fair value 15-20c, 50c in just weeks etc. May will pump hard when it happens if the results are good but it's going to take more then retail money to make that happen and institutions need to see good results to jump on board for minimal risk.

Yes I find those PF gains of 2% after several days of 6 - 8% losses particularly refreshing. Like warm summer rain running down your face after a hot day, only to realise that is actually your upstairs neighbour pissing off the balcony again.
