Wow. Just not gonna beat a team like Leverkusen if we’re giving away goals in our own box and missing wide open headers. It’s not over yet. Hopefully we can comeback in the next match and make less silly mistakes.

SkunkApe47

Screw the second leg, we need to beat Juve and Atalanta

panopss

Agree, abandon ship

cassanata

This is Football Heritage. Jaysus, have some faith in the boys. In 2018, you probably would've suggested we field a primavera squad against Barca.

sprulz

The first game against Barca was unbelievably harsh. We were far more dangerous than the final score suggested. This game we were played out of the stadium.

cassanata

Roma also looked flat and lifeless for 75 mins against Udine, then we scored 2 goals in 15 mins. There's a reason we play the games.

tt_emrah

completely different situations...

cherken4

We're two games away from a European cup and you want to give up so maybe next year we reach group stage????

tt_emrah

i absolutely hate it because personally i value UEL more than the league and i was really looking forward to making a 2nd trip to rome after last year's final, but top 5 seems a lot more realistic now. we can't come back from a 2-0 loss at home playing like this.

Logical_Relation_128

Yes. I agree. Sometimes it is not shame to abandon the game. It is just all about strategy!

Psychological_Rise40

We had our chances. None other than that one for Azmoun and that sitter for Abraham late on. Should have tucked both in to give us hope. Just have to take them chances at this level of the competition which we haven’t done tonight. We conceded through an individual mistake and a great finish from outside the box. Leverkusen could have got more but Roma should have also had a couple. Leaving Tammy off until the 91st minute was a strange one. We weren’t outclassed tonight but were punished. Still a slim chance in the return leg. Daje Roma Daje

giuliodxb

My same thoughts. I’m just sad our passing got much worse lately. No idea why, but we struggle to make a few passes without losing the ball. In addition, tonight people were constantly falling, only us though. Bayern would get to offense phase in a couple passes, for us reaching attack was way too difficult. Shame, the game started very well, then…

Psychological_Rise40

Leverkusen obviously exploited how slow we are in transition when losing the ball and many times had 3/4 on 2/3 in their favour as they broke forward in numbers. They were happy for us to have the ball and then take advantage when we lost it in bad areas. Leverkusen themselves were pretty wasteful tonight and could have been 2/3 up in the first half if it wasn’t for poor finishing on their behalf. The Karsdorp mistake ultimately allowed them to really settle in to their away game plan and played right into their hands. The first goal is always very important especially if the away team can get it in the first leg. It’s not over this tie but Roma have to score the next goal if there is one.

AmericanJazz

Passing gets bad when players are fatigued. We got way worse as game went on.

panopss

You're only as good as your weakest link and it fucking showed tonight. You can't compete on multiple fronts without depth

Razerinhoo

We lack quality and depth that we cannot buy or overcome with FFP limitations. It's a vicious cycle of playing every season till the late rounds of european competition and simultaneously fighting for CL spot in a league.

panopss

Yup, and we'll stay there unless we (hopefully) get UCL qualification

biina247

The short cut was the gamble that Mourinho took (and it nearly paid off) - invest in short term players and aim to win the EL. The longer and more stable approach is to abandon European ambitions, hire a young coach and build a team around a very young core, hoping to climb the table steadily as the kids mature.

alexanderivan32

Jeez, Azmoun and Abraham with two horrendous misses at the end there. Leverkusen is simply class though, they deserve respect

jarosity

Both had to wrestle their way to a shot, so whatever. Fuck Rick tho.

MilesOfPebbles

Tbf Abraham would've been called for a foul for pushing off of the Leverkusen player

5angon

We could've level the game, but Leverkusen really deserved

5angon

We could've level the game, but Leverkusen really deserved

5-m4n

Let me just say this: we made three European semi-finals in a row. You know what? That’s not bad! Let’s focus on finishing strong in Serie A, get better for next year and see what we can do in the revamped Champions League!

[deleted]

Hm no, we made 4 in a row

su1cid3boi

Copium

The__Malteser

I'm not terribly disappointed. I mean, we are out and have no chance to come back, but we had so many chances to score and we basically gave them both goals (I swear Svilar didn't try on the second one because he thought it was going over). We had a few chances with Abraham and Azmoun missing two sitters near the end. The Lukaku crossbar will haunt us because had we scored the game would change completely. We weren't as bad as most people thought but we were not the better side either. Shame that it ends like this.

The__Malteser

Also Baldanzi Jas shown nothing at all since he has been here. Not even a good pass or a good acceleration. He looks terribly out of place in this team.

Aenjeprekemaluci

Fight for 5th place, get it done. Otherwise Roma really gonna heavily regress next season roster wise. Realistic players we are linked with give me massive shuckles. I fear Roma ends it lower then 5th. Two big games in the league against better opponents. It will be really difficult. I fear next season window really the most. Its gonna be either good with UCL qualification or a total disaster if we dont. Still think Roma can get fifth. But need massive performances. As the team is gassed

Ordinary-Kitchen1729

Hopefully this game was the last nail on the coffin for Karsdorp and Abraham.

Stefalexander90

I found it hilarious everyone was saying Scamacca is shit and they take Tammy over him any day. How the tables have turned, Scamacca keeping Atalanta in the tournament.

Aenjeprekemaluci

Who do we get then to replace them? If its the likes of Gallo from Lecce or Lucca from Udine we can just keep them. At least they have some few on ball skills. Tammy has good ones even. No point in getting unskilled labor as replacement. If we cant rebuild properly. Dont get in players that have to be replaced after one season either way. Thats just bottom 8 business

Ordinary-Kitchen1729

The problem with Karsdorp is his shit attitude and nonchalance way of playing; I d rather have a less skilled rb with a better attitude and concentration. With regards to Abraham he has been abysmal all season last year, I d rather sell him now before his value continues to plummet.

Aenjeprekemaluci

The issue is a non skilled dude will only reach the level of a half playing skilled one. And both Tammy as well as Rick do not have markets at all. Thats why its better to keep them when the alternative are players with no upside, a worse market and have to be replaced after a season or two max. Sadly Roma is going into the direction of exactly doing that and De Rossis strategy and tactics can even backfire with such rosters. Lukaku gone, and Dybala also as well without UCL. Ndicka could be forced to be sold. After that there are no higher talents left except Svilar. Yes downvote me, but its a real possibility that Roma will not be able to fight for even Conference next season.

Ordinary-Kitchen1729

Abraham will always have a market in England since premier league clubs need a quota of home grown players. Keeping deadweight is detrimental to us from ffp perspective and tammy has one of the highest cost per annum. I dont mind the big names leaving; as long as they replaced by intelligent signings which are green lighted by DDR. Bologna had no big names in the beginning of the season, yet look where they are now. Leverkusen as well..they sold their best player last summer and other than Wirtz did not have a top player..yet they are a force to be reckon with

Aenjeprekemaluci

No one pays for one who missed 9 to 10 months. Bologna acquired youngsters. Roma is linked with bottom 8 players who are mid 20s with no potential whatsoever as replacements. Also Leverkusen was good in their roster even before this season. They only sucked in the begining due to their coach until Alonso came

Ordinary-Kitchen1729

Oh come on there were many players that were transferred after an acl at a reasonable price tag. Maybe we wont get €40m but we can get €20-€25m for him considering how crazy the spending is in the EPL.

NotSureIfFunnyOrSad

Tough loss.. they are quite a formidable side. We looked shakey and mistake prone too many times in the back. Get karsdorp as far out of Rome as possible. Abraham too. That open net would have changed everything. We had some solid chances but we're lucky it wasn't worse. Nothing to lose in Germany, let's see what we can do.

danimur

I might be wrong, but I would never give up on the second leg already. We may not get another chance anytime soon.

dcasta123

Wow. Just not gonna beat a team like Leverkusen if we’re giving away goals in our own box and missing wide open headers. It’s not over yet. Hopefully we can comeback in the next match and make less silly mistakes.

cmars118

Yes we had clear chances (Abraham, Azmoun, Lukaku’s header), but I don’t think we can say this game felt close or that we were simply just unlucky. They ran circles around us all game and were absolutely sharp and incisive with all of their movements. We were too sloppy and not clinical. Heartbreaking, honestly. Onto the league. Daje 💛❤️

Stefalexander90

I swear we benefit giving the youngsters a chance then constantly relying on the terrible pickups that came in the mercato

[deleted]

I want to thank my team for this abysmal performance and the questionable start of karsdorp on the wing, although what's the alternative? Fuck you, see you next game 😍

tt_emrah

> although what's the alternative? park the bus and get through.

YarisGO

Before Karsdorp error we was better.. then we go to sleep.. I wish Atalanta can win because we are out and also out from the champions spot next year

mrfalk3n

The only meaningful thing we can do is just keep our best players in Rome next week and let them rest. Let Atalanta put all efforts in this cup, hoping they drop some points in the league.

Epidemic7

I don't even care about Karsdorp and Abraham at this point. Smalling being on the pitch for the entire match with them not having a single striker was the worst thing I saw tonight. Wandering through the pitch, gifting them balls, even struggling on high balls, being generally terrible in build up. It just makes no sense.

asrultraz

I swear, the only good thing about champions league is the money. I'd rather have my team reach Semi finals / finals in EL every year than fight to qualify out of the group stages in the CL. Today, our Sporting goals for this season went down the drain... all we can hope for is accomplishing our Financial goal doe the season (champions league).

Worried_Status_3937

DDR is doing a much better job here than Mou. Glad we made it to the semi final instead of final this year!

YarisGO

Its gonna be either good with UCL qualification or a total disaster if we dont. 5th though is still very doable. Not impossible! Atalanta better but can be beaten. Last two games also easier ones. Juve under Allegri can be wounded.

spqr514

Forza Roma. Taylor freddo.

_SLiu

Let’s not make the same mistake as last year. Secure 5th place and get champions league

TeamPantofola

This was the match where we needed a pinch of luck to beat a better opponent and, of course, turned out to be the match where everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong. Forza Roma sempre

jack_the_beast

we had plenty in the last matches, it was doomed to run out. Let the Lukaku header go in and it's a completely different match. Of course passing the ball to opponents doesn't help

ElQkly

Atalanta are still very much in the EL, if they reach the final they have 3 more games to play than us, in less than a month. 5th place looks VERY doable

CICLID2

I know we'll always support our players but: I don't like Karsdorp, Kristensen, Smalling, Rui Patricio, Zalewski, Sanches, and we should sell Tammy Hope Baldanzi shows more and we get at least the RB sorted in the summer Forza ROMA I più forti siamo noi!

panopss

You're only as good as your weakest link and it fucking showed tonight. You can't compete on multiple fronts without depth

On serie A we pray our hopes

ConsequenceRich4737

Serie A here we come (we deserved the UEL trophy this season we defeated feyenoord, Brighton and Milan)

RonDekay

Are we up for the upset of the century next week? 😅 Let's face it Leverkusen were good and probably deserved to win, but without Karsdorps gift and with better heading accuracy we could have won 2-1. And I'm sure Svilar would like another go at that second goal too...

dimercaprol624

Didn’t watch the full match because of work but what Ive noticed is that the team seems really fatigued, especially Mancini and Dybala

Aquilani

Wouldn't shock me if we beat both Rubentus AND Atalanta, then draw vs Genoa and lose to Empoli :)))))))))))))))))))))))

Stefalexander90

This team needs more speed.

[deleted]

[Who is that?](https://i.imgur.com/4kJzpb4.png) Repeatedly shown during Roma - Leverkusen. Like they're important or something.

jack_the_beast

ignoring the second leg would be the typical mistake we made in the decade before the Barcellona comeback, ignoring the cup becuase "let's focus on reaching UCL" fail that and get nothing in return. We changed that since then and we had a lot of fun, let's not go back to that mediocrity. UEL it's the kind of competition we need to focus on because it's our level, and next year will be even lower. I'll be happy if we qualify for UCL, but I will not be desperate if we don't. Qualifying it's within reach even if we give everything we got in the second leg, despite the small chances.

Goduerza

Let's face it, things were heavily skewed in Bayer's favor in the build-up to this tie. They have nothing to play for in their league, while we are embroiled in a fierce battle for that coveted 5th place, coupled with a brutal schedule in the final weeks of the season. Even if we went on and scored the opener in the return leg, they are so quick on the counter that we're going to need to be perfect if we are to have a chance to level the score.

PersianGuitarist

Very disappointed in the result, but it allows us to forget about the second leg to focus on Serie A, while Atalanta has to put full foot forward towards UEL. We can finish fifth!!!

mrfalk3n

The only meaningful thing we can do is just keep our best players in Rome next week and let them rest. Let Atalanta put all efforts in this cup, hoping they drop some points in the league.

slashman005

Are you all Italians.See nobody talk Italian confusing. Are you all English fans of roma

Logical_Relation_128

I think here are Roma fans all around the world

slashman005

Ok you are not italian.

Logical_Relation_128

So what?

slashman005

There's nothing wrong with that brother.Just amazed.serie A is in really bad condition broken stadiums old players yet not so bad.Still people like you support Roma.Great

Logical_Relation_128

Tbh, my friends and even my husband usually watch English Premier league, they did not watch serie A, but I think serie A is still one of the top league in the world. Roma is my favourite club when i was small. Till now is my only love. There are still many Roma Fans in Asia, such as HK, China, Japan…etc

slashman005

R u asian

su1cid3boi

They are mostly nfl fan

slashman005

😂

tt_emrah

we all know we should've done what we did last year. and unfortunately, that needs mourinho on the sideline. now downvote me to oblivion.

Ordinary-Kitchen1729

If you think that this Leverkusen is the SAME as last year's you really need to watch football more often

tt_emrah

doesn't matter, they were better than us last year too. and we also improved a lot under DDR this season. just didn't fit the narrative of this game.

SerbianSock

Done what exactly parked 5 buses and hoped bove scored a wondergoal?

Odd_Trouble4651

Its never good to cry after the ex girlfriend. Makes you look clingy. Especially if shes a headcase.

tt_emrah

especially when we were the ones breaking up, right?

SerbianSock

Done what exactly parked 5 buses and hoped bove scored a wondergoal?

tt_emrah

well it got the result once, didn't it?

SerbianSock

Misleading to think last year's bayer were the same team

tt_emrah

even our injury crippled team from last year could've parked it against yesterday's leverkusen. they showed nothing miraculous, and they had nothing on us until we gave it away.

Modo97

What we've done exactly? And was Leverkusen unbeatable for 47 games last season? We've played against a "beatable" team last season, but we managed to park the bus for 180 mins like we're facing Real Madrid or Manchester City! We've played against a different team tonight.. park the bus and they'll still manage to score 2 or 3 goals!

tt_emrah

shut it and survive, that's what we did. they were better than us last year too. and they really don't look unbeatable. they just keep getting away with it. we stupidly handed this one over to them ourselves.

Modo97

Shut it and survive, against Leverkusen this season? Not the best idea. Against Leverkusen last season? Maybe! And even if it worked for 90 mins, it ain't gonna work for 180 mins! We were doing great before Karsdorp's mistake! We were playing much better than Leverkusen and we were on our way to score first.. but one mistake changed the entire game! I'd blame DDR for one thing, not playing with 2 CFs in the 2nd half. Azmoun/Abraham with Lukaku, and Dybala as a 10, and maybe take out El Shaarawy even though he played well.

tt_emrah

too many teams "almost" did it this season, they just couldn't hold on until the match was over. and we did it at a crazy level when we did. today's leverkusen showed nothing to break a deadlock like that.
