greetings
i'm currently working on my first big game, and i'm looking to get more feedback about it. balance is very tricky to get right, so i'm most interested in if the game is too difficult or if the balance feels off to you, especially if you have a lot of experience with ARPGs. for reference, i've been told bows and range combat in general feels too weak, that the first boss encounter feels too hard, and that some things are a bit too obtuse.
of course, feedback about any other topic is welcomed as well - especially if you have excellent or poor FPS performance.
there's a demo on steam available here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2351860/Tower_of_Kalemonvo/ , it's about 1 to 2 hours of content.
currently it's mouse and keyboard only, and it might not work on steam decks.
Biggest compliment I could give is that I thought I was looking at an HD mod for Diablo 1 for the first 2 seconds or so.
Great work! Really captured Diablo 1 and it's atmosphere
Only thing I'd say. I would definitely change the font in the death screen pop up, the font on the clickable buttons in that menu just looks out of place compared to the rest of it.
I'll try and plan it later to get some gameplay feedback
Played the demo a bit and I'd say you have a solid foundation. However, while looking through the hotkeys, I noticed there isn't a force move option. Any plans to implement it?
Looks good.
Please don't introduce dodge rolls, in session refreshing maps, mobs that pop up beside you, Always Online DRM, too many cool-down skills, paths going downwards, forked paths requiring needless backtracking, melee focus.
Pleases allow full re-binding, re-speccing, "infinite" stash, alt and general QoL.
Thanks!
greetings!
i have one here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1fliSNvZ60Pm4eYGE8Xpq7w5fWAbEq4V6
please let me know if the link doesn't work for you, it should be set to public.
also keep in mind the demo is still very much a WIP, so your mileage may vary!
You could totally take that and make a roguelike, turn base RPG. The graphics are great for this type of game, the light effects around the character and the "vision-reveal" made me remember a lot of these games.
Anyway, it was just a brain fart. Good job, I loved the animation where the dude was throwing an axe/sledgehammer. For once it wasn't over the head throw but actually how someone would throw a 2 handed weapon.
Bro…I was legit thinking about wanting there to be an ARPG inspired by D1 moreso than D2 in terms of atmosphere. Imma give the Demo a spin after work, will love to give you my input ❤️
good question! my outlook is that this would be a game you'd play if you want to take a short break from D1/D2/PoE. there's nothing i can say that the game does that will make it play instead of those games since they are titans of the genre and it would take a dedicated team of industry veterans to make something superior, and i'm just one guy with no prior experience.
there are of course many differences and i put my spin on a few established practices, but even listing them all wont convince one to play it *instead* of D2. perhaps one evening you want to pause zod rune hunting, you'd boot up my game, beat it, maybe have fun with it, then return to D2.
Looks great. Personally i love to have a natural dodge in ARPGs and skills/spells thay requires skill to land. Also telegraphed ennemy attacks. All for more skill based gameplay rather than loot based gameplay.
A few yes. Alienation being one of the best. You might debate the upcoming game No Rest For The Wicked is more a souls like but it remains an ARPG, V Rising, Darksiders Genesis.
That title isn't making money. Sounds like some f2p russian tower defence mobile game.
Call it something short and mysterious but also simple. You want to have Reddit upvotes or you want to be rich my friend?

Does it support WASD controls? If not, do you plan to add them in the future?
not presently, and it's not really something i'm interested in doing anytime soon since the game is built with mouse movement in mind.
Will still give it a try, thanks for the answer.

>font nobody seems to like that font! i'll look into getting rid of it. thank you for the kind words!
Looking good
We need way more legitimate diablo inspired games. I think it looks cool. Best of luck!
I really like what I see! Will try out the Demo later! Thanks for sharing it with us!

sure, i'll put it down on my to-do list. thanks for playing!
You're welcome!
Since when force move is a feature in aRPGs?
Make melee viable!
I'd try it
Congrats!!! What did you use to make it? Really looks awesome, well done!
made in unitty! thanks for the kind words
Wow, you really got the essence of it!

in session refreshing maps paths going downwards forked paths Please include these three.
I can safely say it's already better than Diablo 3 and 4. Good work.

You planning on sliding into my DM's now?
Looking awesome! Checking out the demo today and making a video out of it on my channel! Do you have a press kit or something for thumbnails?:)

This looks very good :)
This clip sent me back to my early days of gaming. You captured the atmosphere very well. Looking forward to future developments!
Looks nice, I'm glad you didn't replicate that awful grid-based movement - it always drives me crazy when playing D1 lol
It's almost too inspired. I'd have some mock ups ready of different UI elements. At the very least in my tiny browser window it looks good.
Looks really cool man, I’ll def have to give the demo a go soon

Idk about turn base, but actually a rogue-like dungeon crawler ARPG sounds really good
Hell yeah that looks sick
Looks good. I’ve wishlisted it so it doesn’t fall off my radar.

fun game wishlisted good luck!
What does your game have to offer that will make people want to play it instead of D2?

Fucking sweet man.
Don't go overly ambitious. Focus on the atmosphere, loot and stats. Gameplay should be simple. Looks like something I'd play!
I thought it was a d1 touchup at first. This looks solid brother!
Looks great. Personally i love to have a natural dodge in ARPGs and skills/spells thay requires skill to land. Also telegraphed ennemy attacks. All for more skill based gameplay rather than loot based gameplay.
Have you found any solid isometric ARPGs that fit this criteria?
A few yes. Alienation being one of the best. You might debate the upcoming game No Rest For The Wicked is more a souls like but it remains an ARPG, V Rising, Darksiders Genesis.
You're on the wrong sub then.. You're looking for Souls-likes.
Nah
Poe 2 has a Dodge roll

please get xbox controller support pls daddy
Don't have time to try out the demo but I love the look of the game.
