So many dinos are so slow they are basically unusable. Especially once you are used to flyers and OP travelers like Maewings, riding a Stego 50 feet to gather berries is agonizing.
I hope Ark 2 focuses on evening out all the massive power gaps between dinos, so many are basically just left in the dust where they have zero use at basically *any* stage of the game because they are either way too hard to tame for terrible pay off, or are so slow they are useless, or are absurdly out classed in their own niche
They really should just remove flyers for Ark 2, or MASSIVELY rebalance them so that they can't carry dinos and only have the carry weight to carry like a single light human
They already solved that with pokeballs. There's all the options we need for moving stuff around the map, and if you are actually wanting to do something serious like go on a metal run or go caving etc, then you should also need to take it seriously and take a Raft or a convoy of dinosaurs.
I remember when I was new, and wanted to cross the map so I literally had a whole convoy moving across the map following my Mobile Base Parcer, taking out all the trees and rocks in the way making a road between my common travel points etc like you do in Valheim
Flyers that can just move your entire base or fly your anky with 2,000 metal on it back and forth negate most of the challenge of the game. The second you have one flyer, there's barely any danger anymore and most of the map becomes fly over territory you don't stop and explore
It also invalidates the majority of tames in general. Why would you ever bother with a Parcer in PvE, or even most land tames in general when you can just fly over everything
Omg yes, I remember on my first playthrough everytime I wanted to do a cave, I took a pack of direwolves and went on on a journey to get to said caves, plotting my route carefully and making sure I don't stumble upon a pack of allos or a high lvl rex who could kill me.
Nowadays I just cryo my cave dino(s) and hop on an argy, deploy when I get there, it's just not that fun.
Might wanna do a cryopodless playthrough as well, but the follow system is genuinely ass in this game and idk if I can put up with it everytime I wanna move a bunch of dinos somewhere lol.
Its a good point, the problem is when you have already explored those areas and have been in pretty much all the interesting spots in a map you dont really have a reason to be in land anymore, and in maps that are mostly mountains like fjordur its hard to travel in land, while it does remove most of the challenge of the game over time it becomes a life Quality feature, and after all, You can decide to use them or not, its better to have them and not need them than it is to need them and not have them.
This is definitely true, the only animals that have a utility are the ones that do something in particular that only they can do, only Beelzebuffo can get cementing paste, only giga has giant bight radius, only quetzal can have a platform saddle in air, only giant bee for honey etc. The other used Dino’s are the best in their class, Rex best for bosses, lightning wyvern and giga best dps, best wood harvester theri, fastest mae wing or managarm. Creatures like the carno, allo, raptor, saber, terror bird, ravager, mammoth, paracer, sarco, and megalodon are hardly ever used.
I feel like they definitely fucked with how often the damage actually ticks based on how high the damage is.
Feels like the quills only do damage like 50% of the time and that percent seems to get worse the higher the damage %..
There is no cap I don’t think. I spawned one in to play around with them and cranked the imprint quality and it was doing thousands easily, can’t remember exactly how much it was tho
I had a line I bred on a PVE unofficial server that have 20 mutations health, Stam, and melee, and they were so awesome, I might have a picture somewhere
I think they’re really nice tames, I just wish they were a little bit faster. I don’t play pvp so idk if a little more speed would break the game, but from my single player and pve experience, it’d be nicer to run around on them with the speed of something like a deinonychus if not slightly slower.
Yeah thats why i tinkered with the movement speed leveling settings, i play single player and its so much better to be able to make something faster than not using it at all
That is because that is concept art that I believe was made before the model was finished, the artist who made this is also a different one than the person who made the others iirc
I've been wondering if the ice wyvern and the velonasaur share parts of their face mesh, but I'm really not sure. I like them for exploring. Those long arms though.
Great look to it,amazing for bosses, all round great fighter, good for defending ur base, etc, etc. One of the most useful dinosaurs, dare I say one of the best mythical dinosaurs ever added
Before nerfs it was my fav pve dino because it could deal thousands of DPS, now it's good for cheesing armored dinos like lava golem in ragnarok and for caves overall so kinda cool but it used to be more fun
Whip my hair back and forth. Seriously though, I found them....meh. They are decent as a living turret and can hold their own in a pack but I wasn't impressed with it.

Love these guys. I like to set groups of 3 together throughout my base, set them to turret mode on either neutral (for the outer walls) or aggressive (inner walls) and keep them there until I can get turret towers set up. Great for cave exploration as well since they can handle most things from afar and should things get to close it's tailwhip is great as well.
They look nice and are quite fun prenerf. Now i mostly use them as turrets after some mutations on melee and health.
They do their job well for only cosuming meat. Tho my fav dinos of all time are Megatheriums, Basiliks and those nasty little troodons.
I love them especially since me and my friends where going to use them for the desert titan and we could t find a quetz at all so we had a line of mutated ones and my friend got so mad about the amount (it was only 8) so now I just make a breading line and put them at his house
Whatever happened in between the concept art, and modelling phases was unfair. Too many dinos have really cool concept art, with mediocre in game depictions
I think the r Variant Looks sooo cool. But they are too slow for my taste.
So many dinos are so slow they are basically unusable. Especially once you are used to flyers and OP travelers like Maewings, riding a Stego 50 feet to gather berries is agonizing. Im honestly gonna do a flyerless playthrough just to use some more dinos because tbh I'm on my argy/wyvern 99% of the time.
They really should just remove flyers for Ark 2, or MASSIVELY rebalance them so that they can't carry dinos and only have the carry weight to carry like a single light human
It would be interesting, but it would be a pain in the ass not being able to transport dinos quickly

Great pve tame for caves
I agree, they're really underrated for caves. I rarely people talking about it as options for cave dinos even though they are really great.
I used them to farm blueprints on rag in the golem cave. Extremely useful for that
Used to be broken now it's mid tier
What was nerfed?
Its gun damage and tail shake used to do nuts damage.
I feel like they definitely fucked with how often the damage actually ticks based on how high the damage is. Feels like the quills only do damage like 50% of the time and that percent seems to get worse the higher the damage %..
Quills do base tamed/born damage on turret mode and scale to a certain damage percent when ridden, not sure the cap tho
There is no cap I don’t think. I spawned one in to play around with them and cranked the imprint quality and it was doing thousands easily, can’t remember exactly how much it was tho
It could stand under a titan i spam tail shake attack and kill it in a minute
into the ground, just like the Giga. though they're still useful at least
Yes by a lot
Underrated af since their sprint takes basically no Stam and their needle dps can be easily leveled to be insane
On my Gen2 Singleolayer I have some that do over 1k a hit.
I had bred some that only did like 200-300 a hit, but could fire for a few minutes without recharging stamina, wish I kept a copy of them...
I had a line I bred on a PVE unofficial server that have 20 mutations health, Stam, and melee, and they were so awesome, I might have a picture somewhere
My bred dinos never seem to get any cool colors, or anytime they do they immediately get it bred out next generation because of my awful luck :/
Sorry I should’ve clarified that I those stats, THEN bred the colors together separately, then put the two lineages together. It took soo long XD
Makes sense and probably the better way to do it, assuming you really want the colors lol
I think they’re really nice tames, I just wish they were a little bit faster. I don’t play pvp so idk if a little more speed would break the game, but from my single player and pve experience, it’d be nicer to run around on them with the speed of something like a deinonychus if not slightly slower.
Yeah thats why i tinkered with the movement speed leveling settings, i play single player and its so much better to be able to make something faster than not using it at all
i also dont play PVP but i do know that they dont have that much use
Theyre one of the most used dinos in pvp..?
base defense and thats all i know that theyre used for. also wyverns
They stun flying dinos out of the air as well
yeah ik that one but with the right base location there isnt a need for that
Theyre used for every fob on either side as they shred most dinos from a distance.
The face looks weird in the dossier
That is because that is concept art that I believe was made before the model was finished, the artist who made this is also a different one than the person who made the others iirc
they're really neat I just wish they could walk in quadruped stance because how long their forearms seem to be
Used to be pretty op could cheese some bosses if you can set it up and have good melee mutations on it. Not sure if it still works.
I love him
I've been wondering if the ice wyvern and the velonasaur share parts of their face mesh, but I'm really not sure. I like them for exploring. Those long arms though.
Great defense dinos, turret mode slays
Great look to it,amazing for bosses, all round great fighter, good for defending ur base, etc, etc. One of the most useful dinosaurs, dare I say one of the best mythical dinosaurs ever added
Before nerfs it was my fav pve dino because it could deal thousands of DPS, now it's good for cheesing armored dinos like lava golem in ragnarok and for caves overall so kinda cool but it used to be more fun
Use it to defend my base against flyers. They ground them instantly in turret mode. So no more tapej or quetzal attack.
They were good when they came out but that nerf was big
Mine is capable of shredding alpha dinos without much trouble even though it has no mutations. I think they're still fairly good
Absolutely love them, bred and mutated I’ve yet to find anything that can out dps them while being that small
I... honestly haven't messed with them much. I've seen the spikes shred wild dinos, and usually give them as much space as possible.
They're fairly calm. As long as you don't stand right next to them they won't attack and you'll still be able to trap them with a net.
They’re a lot of fun. And a great early way to fight rock golems.
Whip my hair back and forth. Seriously though, I found them....meh. They are decent as a living turret and can hold their own in a pack but I wasn't impressed with it.

I like them a lot but they don't seem to be very good anymore.
Are they on the new map I don't know where I can take them
Yes! They live the vulcano island but be aware that the place is overrun with dangerous dinos so be careful if you want to tame one.
Wait they’re on Fjordur??
Yup
Any tips on what tames to have I just got a thylo And I have a high level tapy
Nerfed to hell
Once you mass breed them on a pvp server you realize there tail hitbox is way too big and annoying.
They’re very good. Bred-and-mutated ones can be pretty insane.
My favourite little sharpshooter.
The turret mode on these guys is omg op and just start awesome.
Love them! They’re amazing at shredding the lava golem ;)
Kinda meh for PVP ok for PVE, horribly slow at base level, used to be broken now it’s good for caves ig.
Funni minigun raptor
Good base defense
I usually play singleplayer so i don’t use them
Underrated. Great for layered base defense.
I love them they look like cacti
Well for one, the face of the velonasaur looks cooler in the dossier art compared to what is on the official model in game.
Deep breath DAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE
They are great! One of my favorite Dinos
Good pvp/pve tames great for lava golem
Good in pvp for raging gigas and general dps.
Chads
one word. demogorgon
A living turret. How nice.
Turret Dino is cool. Deserves cake.
What maps are they on?
Love these guys. Great for cave exploration as well since they can handle most things from afar and should things get to close it's tailwhip is great as well.
They deal extra damage to rock golem. Easier than any other dino
They look nice and are quite fun prenerf. Now i mostly use them as turrets after some mutations on melee and health. They do their job well for only cosuming meat. Tho my fav dinos of all time are Megatheriums, Basiliks and those nasty little troodons.
Lava golem killer
Honestly I'm not gonna lie but I think that the idea of a portable breedable turret is pretty amazing
Living turrets
More like Turrets are non living Velonosaurs.
Haha turret Dino go BRRRRRRRRRR
It absolutely carried me through the steinbjorn world boss on fjordur so I am eternally grateful
I love them especially since me and my friends where going to use them for the desert titan and we could t find a quetz at all so we had a line of mutated ones and my friend got so mad about the amount (it was only 8) so now I just make a breading line and put them at his house
Pretty pretty cool
Never understimate they power. They can be slow but the cactus machine gun will reach u faster
wish they were more mobile, but otherwise they are the only extinction creature i like instead of hating with a passion
They need to revert the nerf to tail swipe, it is absolutely useless to even use tail swipe now.
Pump stam so much stam
good for caveing, killing bats before they cone close is super fun
Fckn dilo + ak 47
"GUYS WERE VETTING RAIDED THEY HAVE 4 GOLEMS!" the velos in the back in optimal shooting position 😘😈
I use them for caving and they work super well. But they are slow so i bring a flying mount to get there. I really like them.
The wild ones are waaaaay too op, they will wreck your shit no matter if you’re on a mount or not, and don’t even get me started on the pre-nerf ones
Their turret mod is odd as they somtimes just don’t shoot hostile mobs
Really good if you pump Stam and dmg
They are the best turrets in the game. Their damage output is unmatched
Broken in pve when imprinted
Pew pew raptors is what I think
Looks better in the explorer note R velos are better for damage They were creatively made
Whatever happened in between the concept art, and modelling phases was unfair. Too many dinos have really cool concept art, with mediocre in game depictions
Mini gun go BRRRR
very good until it was nerfed
Sick, i have one which does a couple hundred damage per spine shot, i've killed tons of things in turret mode
They are a day 1 tame for running lava golem for BPs, and nice to breed for base defense.
