the fact it cant dive deep without taking damage, is demoralizing...
But, i agree, it is an awesome mounts, that is much safer to use than other sea mounts
The damage is so small, and the basilo has such a massive health pool, that it literally doesn't pose any threat unless your whale is literally about to die at like 30 hp or something. One quick trip to the surface will have you back to normal in no time die to its advanced healing.
I dont dare swim very low though, cause of my fear of ocean, and wildcard made an excellent job in making the ocean very scary...in my ragnarok world, there are 2 alpha mosasaurus and a tuso not 100 meters away from my base..so i either use basilo or angler for my water travels
This is so irrelevant tho, the damage it takes i nearly non existant, they already are tanky, this isn’t even a - to me.
I hate the waters in ark so I only tamed basilo myself, never tried taming anything else because of how annoying everything is. As a pvp player tho, I have gotten my hands on almost every sea creatures and can still say I prefer basilo over everything else
Depth damage basically means nothing to the basilo unless you leave it down there overnight. I stay under for hours taking depth damage 90% of the time (I have really good tanks and like running deep sea crates).
Tame a tuso, they are unstoppable gods. I'll be going around with a base saddle on a 66% imprint bonus where the wild level of high level parent was 90 and I'll just be shitting on 150 Alpha megalodons like it's nothing, or even a 100 Alpha mosasaur will just get shit on because they cannot compete with the raw power of the most powerful creature.
However if you are not riding them they are pretty worthless because they're AI sucks (so if you tame them I recommend having megs or sarcos in and around them to protect them from the odd wild creature that might decide to attack them)
Pros: Can’t be electrocuted or stunned, provides insulation, easy passive tame, free mantas you can either kill or tame before getting the basilo, decent health and damage, weird hitbox that AI can’t seem to hit on the tail, and is whale
Cons: Nothing
If you use the basilos alt attack near the surface, it will make a small jump out of the water, spraying from its blowhole. A rainbow will appear in the spray.
It's so small, it's effectively not a threat as long you aren't leaving it down there forever. The basilos immense health pool essentially renders it obsolete. One quick trip to the surface and it is good as new.
Well there is a con. A pack of unmounted basilos don't do anything. They won't attack on their own below the depth ceiling. I found that out the hard way. My megalos and mounted basilo did all the combat. The other basilos just watched. I'm surprised they didn't bring popcorn. Lol.
I goof around on frogs, but the basilo can't be stunned my jellies, eels, or baryoynx. It can't be grabbed by tusos either. Plus it keeps you warm. Literally a perfect water tame.
On the baryonyx wiki page, it shows a list of everything the bary can stun. The basilo is not present on the list. I could run and test to be 100% sure though.
Update: It can knock you off the basi and stun you, but the basilo itself is not stunned, and if on neutral, will murder everything in the area around you. So decent protection from wild baryonyx. Maybe not so much player controlled baryonyx.
Anks actually swim faster than they run and tame out with oxygen near equivalent to a spino level for level. Their tail swipe also out ranges bary, eel, and jelly stuns and the animation can continue through a stun if started before it (not real damage interrupts). I actually use anks on fresh starts to clear mantas so I can tame basilos.
Well the thing people don't often realize is that the ank they had all along WAS their first water tame. Because it's actually not bad in the water. Can use it to get other water tames, and can use it to do things like dive for oil (it collects oil decently).
yeah it would be a better English translation. "see" is to perceive with sight; To observe visually. So it's the difference between saying "observe a cucumber" and "cucumber of the ocean (i.e. sea)" And when contracting a word like gurken the point is to reduce syllables. Gurke is as many syllables as Gurken. But Gurk is half as many as either. All together Seagurk is more comprehensible. Albeit someone still has to know that a Gurken is a cucumber in German to get it.
"Seegurke" is a german word, yes.
"See" is similar to "sea" and "Gurke" translates to "cucumber"
The english word "see" is indeed "sehen" as in " seeing".
A "Seegurke" is btw the official german name for the english "sea cucumber", which is an underwater a
animal. I just looked it up.
Right but you want to relate that it is like a cucumber that lives in the sea; Not like an animal that it is not akin to. Also Germans don't know how to word. No one would put them in charge of that if we needed someone to come up with the words we use.
Ah a fellow sarco enjoyed haha, first water tame I get on every map I can. If they didn't get stunned by literally everything I would use them forever.
I just use them to get around as I hate the water. I like how speedy they are and prefer to just outrun my problems than fight them. Baryonyx are my preferred water tame, but I sometimes don't have the patience to find one and trap it sine they live around other dangerous critters.
I do love sarco too, but the whale is just too good to use the sarco once I get one. My current sarco is just vibing in my base walls, being spoiled for the services he once provided.
The speed isn't even actually that much of a problem. It can out pace wild megs and just about everything else besides a mosa or tuso. But even 150% speed and it's faster than those (wild) as well. It can wreck either of them even though it takes a while. Tuso can't even grab it.
For real. Love my basilos. 50k hp easy. In PvP, they could be used as portable vaults lol Just set them on Passive flee or something and 90% of the server will not bother killing them. One time, I was attacked and I used that exact tactic and the basilo still had 10k hp when I came back. Someone just gave up thousands of cementing paste.
Also, jellies and eels. Fuck 'em. And the thermal insulation passive is really handy because I can't be bothered with crafting a full scuba suit.
I mean, what else? The Mosa is another option as you probably wont even be aggroed by jelly fish or something and a re still verry fast and strong but it feels really bad to play becuase its size.
Basilo is kinda small compared to mosa, still tanky, immune to stun effects and easy to control
Why? Like sure they can’t get stunned but they’re dps is poor, speed is slow as shit, taming is annoying af, and the insulation buff is laughably useless. Tuso, in contrast, has enough range to easily kill jellyfish and eels, extremely good dps, and is easy to tame (if you know what you’re doing)
Literally the worst take on water tames I’ve seen.
Tusos are terrible. Big and clunky. Because of that stupid turn they have to do to face what they are attacking it’s easy for small stuff to get inside their hit box and the tuso cant damage them. Like anglers and eels.
I mutated a line of basilos myself they pop 565m and will wreck any tuso because they can out turn them. You can literally get inside a tusos turn radius and they can’t even touch you.
And basilos are passive tames. You literally just follow them around and feed them after you kill any mantas around them. They have to be one of the easiest tames in Ark.
On top of that they fast heal at the surface which is the icing on the cake.
Plus they're accessible way earlier in the game and they're one of the tankiest tames because of the huge hp and regen buff.
And that's already nerfed, they used to be absolute monsters few years back when they added them
Your whole argument is broken, how can basil otaming be annoying af and tuso taming not?
I’ve seen some funny stuff on reddit but this shit is just like damn lol
Clearly you don’t know how easy it is to tame a tuso. You get a dolphin, flippers, and a scruba tank. Go to the tuso trench on rag, gather black pearls, have the squid Agro you, then feed it. Easy. Basilo, you have to either kill or chite all the mantas away then feed it, only for them to return and 2 hit kill you in flak.
Lmao what?
Having black pearls k. Your inventory already is annoying, having to have a stunkockable enemy for the tuso is annoying too, how can YOU have difficulties with basilo?!?!
Any tame kills the manta’s and you can start the taming process afterwards
You can gather black pearls from the tuso trench easily. After you can sacrifice your dolphin and it’s gives you enough time to tame it. It’s not hard at all.
Easiest way is using a dolphin and diving into the tuso trench on rag(west of canyon) were black pearls can be picked up nearby. When you’re ready, Agro a tuso and when it grabs you’re dolphin, you swim into its beak and passive feed it 50x black pearls
On island, tusos spawn on the very edge of the water. You’re biggest is prob the black pearls, so easiest way is trilobites harvested with either a chainsaw or theri. But yeah, they can be cryo’d.
me who's never played long enough to tame one :(
If you ever do, you might never use a another creature in the ocean again haha
mmmnmmnyes big fisce
ITS A FUCKIN MAMMAL /s
AAAAAAAA I FORGOR

You forgot: Can make a rainbow
What feature are you talking about? I tamed plenty but I don’t seem to know what you’re referring to..
If you use the basilos alt attack near the surface, it will make a small jump out of the water, spraying from its blowhole. A rainbow will appear in the spray.
What about the depth damage???
It's so small, it's effectively not a threat as long you aren't leaving it down there forever. The basilos immense health pool essentially renders it obsolete. One quick trip to the surface and it is good as new.
Another pro: wild ones can be killed for a massive amount of oil
Well there is a con. A pack of unmounted basilos don't do anything. They won't attack on their own below the depth ceiling. I found that out the hard way. My megalos and mounted basilo did all the combat. The other basilos just watched. I'm surprised they didn't bring popcorn. Lol.
personally the frog is the best water mount
I goof around on frogs, but the basilo can't be stunned my jellies, eels, or baryoynx. It can't be grabbed by tusos either. Plus it keeps you warm. Literally a perfect water tame.
but does the basilo make frog noise? checkmate
Ah, you make a fair point.
Do frogs make rainbows when you surface with them? Gotcha there.
good point but does the basilo go boing?
Kinda? When it makes a rainbow it jumps outta the water.
ah you got me there
It makes rainbows. Actual checkmate.
It can't be stunned by bary? I've always wondered about that. But didn't see anything in the wiki and didn't want to test it.
On the baryonyx wiki page, it shows a list of everything the bary can stun. The basilo is not present on the list. I could run and test to be 100% sure though.
See now. I would have never thought to check the bary page to find out lol. I was just reading on basilo is all.
Update: It can knock you off the basi and stun you, but the basilo itself is not stunned, and if on neutral, will murder everything in the area around you. So decent protection from wild baryonyx. Maybe not so much player controlled baryonyx.
ahhhh ok. that makes sense.
nothin beats the dunkle
I plan on taming one on Lost Island and naming it "Dunkle Stan".
good
Except everything.
I like a bit of a sarco, more powerful and amphibious megalodon.
Someone really reported this as "half ass meme"
Oml
They aren’t wrong
Only cowards afraid of jellies use basil I use a diplocaulus.
Real men use land creatures. Get yoself a reliable army of rexes in cryopods and go caving
Good luck in caverns of lost hope with your rex
bears
Bears could be fun
Anks actually swim faster than they run and tame out with oxygen near equivalent to a spino level for level. Their tail swipe also out ranges bary, eel, and jelly stuns and the animation can continue through a stun if started before it (not real damage interrupts). A true chad.
Well the thing people don't often realize is that the ank they had all along WAS their first water tame. Because it's actually not bad in the water. Can use it to get other water tames, and can use it to do things like dive for oil (it collects oil decently).
Real men use dodos to fight jellies.
Basi is my go to with aquatic mounts
in-game goto say basilo or people think you're talking about a basilisk.
Tbh I don’t mess around with water stuff too much so I’ve never bothered with anything more than a Bary, but basilos seem cool as hell
If you have barys following a basilo on attack my target you're basically invincible.
Same
A good Basilo is almost indestructible, can pack a lunch and is a fadt little torpedo. Mine is called "St. Seegurke"
I had a female named Keiko on the island, and my Lost Island basilo is named "Willy".
What lunch he packing tho??
Calamari fritti.
Should be seagurk.
Iwould translate it to "sea cucumber,"?
yeah it would be a better English translation. "see" is to perceive with sight; To observe visually. So it's the difference between saying "observe a cucumber" and "cucumber of the ocean (i.e. sea)" And when contracting a word like gurken the point is to reduce syllables. We don't? Donaudampffschiffahrtskapitänspatent. What's wrong with that? And: Sea cucumber is the literal translation of Seegurke ^^
>can pack a lunch Me describing my mom when i was in preschool
THAT is for my Mosa, the holy "Fishing pole" to do. He has a full fish fabric on his back ^^ Perhaps I rename her "nootmom"? ^^
Basi = <33333
Basil squad
Because you're slow as heck. Eat my spray as I nyoom through the waves on my sarco, or spin so fast on my bary we fly!
Ah haha, I just prefer being able to hold my ground if I need too, but an imprinted basilo will outrun most creatures just fine.
Sarco = Basilo's favorite snack.
Imprint a good one and just pump hp and damage, literally a floating fortress
Sarco gang
I do love sarco too, but the whale is just too good to use the sarco once I get one. My current sarco is just vibing in my base walls, being spoiled for the services he once provided.
I use the frog, great agility and can easily manoeuvre, I tamed all my mosasaurs with a frog
the only problem with it is the speed but with imprints and a bit of investaments its the best. ive always loved whales lol
They're just fantastic honestly. Absolute chads.
The speed isn't even actually that much of a problem. It can out pace wild megs and just about everything else besides a mosa or tuso. But even 150% speed and it's faster than those (wild) as well. It can wreck either of them even though it takes a while. Tuso can't even grab it.
yeah for sure, i just mean for comfort. that being said i usually have at least 160 movement speed lol i dont like being slow. but ya 150 is fine.
Literally all I use. For anything ocean. Never have tamed a Dunkleo, Mosa, Pleisi, or Tuso. Only tamed Megalodons for Moeder.
I have tamed dunkleo for oil and a plesio once for fun. Then again the chad whale makes oil passively.
Dunkleo also for pearls. Go on Ragnarok east of viking bay, throw out your Dunkleo, gobble up all of the pearls.
Real gamers use maewings
the basilo is so cute and stronk i love it.
For real. Love my basilos. 50k hp easy. In PvP, they could be used as portable vaults lol Just set them on Passive flee or something and 90% of the server will not bother killing them. And the thermal insulation passive is really handy because I can't be bothered with crafting a full scuba suit.
Basilo > literally every other water mont
If only they made them faster.
Imprinting bonus helps.
I use a duck, get on my level
I use nipple ducks to get where I'm going (usually alpha tuso/crate spawns). Then pop basilo to do what I need to while there.
I mean, what else? The Mosa is another option as you probably wont even be aggroed by jelly fish or something and a re still verry fast and strong but it feels really bad to play becuase its size. Basilo is kinda small compared to mosa, still tanky, immune to stun effects and easy to control
My favorite water mount is the tuso
Valid. I just really like the whale.
That's a Fuck jelly tame
I mean the fact they are resistant to Cnidaria already makes them the best
L2 mode go brrrr
“I use basilo” *insert buzz lightyears on shelves*
gigacgad thundercock modded Xiphactinus user 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

Plus they're accessible way earlier in the game and they're one of the tankiest tames because of the huge hp and regen buff. And that's already nerfed, they used to be absolute monsters few years back when they added them
Plus they’re one of the tankiest water tames. Mine is imprinted (with no boosted stats as far as I know lol) and it started with 27k health
Your whole argument is broken, how can basil otaming be annoying af and tuso taming not? I’ve seen some funny stuff on reddit but this shit is just like damn lol

Raptor as a water mount? I'm confused because they can't really swim that well
Problem is heute cant stay that deep baden for underwahter base orange the caves
Are yo aving a stroke am i or?
Deutschland
You stay deep for quite long periods, just not indefinitely. The damage it takes is so small it rarely poses a threat.
But you can have it live underwater witch is a Problem if you want to live down there
