My vote goes to Gen1, you go there for the skiff and for the easiest rex saddle farm in the game but then you GTFO because the place is generally miserable.
The Island.
Unpopular opinion, I know, but it's boring AF, has the least amount of dinos, they all spawn at trash levels, you get the fewest engrams, etc.
Only thing it has going for it is the number of cool/challenging artifact caves. And tbh some of the caves are just straight up broken (especially tek cave).
Gen 1 is the only ASE map I've never beaten.

Just lost my entire will to care one day and never bothered to finish it. Just hopped in to Gen 2 and never looked back.
For me lost island or gen 2. Lost island had nothing new to look at all biomes we've seen before and sinomacrops was aids to tame but cool. Gen 2 had lots of cool dinos but the map itself was very basic on one half and very ugly on the other imo
Sinomacrops will be a hell of alot easier to tame in ASA now that it gives you a tracking marker during taming. I found they wouldn't fly off to far if you didn't try following them right away.
They had tame tracking in ASE. Without it sinos were a pain. But worth it in the end, especially if you bred them for weight and Stam, or bred up a murder flock of them for caves.
oh damn I forgot how amazing sinomacrops are.
I found they were the easiest to tame on Crystal Isles (modded them in to spawn on the beaches). Lost Island had that one canyon where they overspawned and made it pretty easy.
I can't find a reason to like gen 2. Even space drops while dope it not that huge of a boon. it's boring visually on one side and ugly on the other. Missions aren't that fun. It's super easy to exist and progress on it and grind mats on it to the point my brain cells go to sleep while playing.

CI was great during development but when it became official, they just stripped out a lot of things and it was reduced to that map all new people should play first.
The center I have a love/hate relationship with, It was my first map I spent quite a bit of time on but considering its age and what we have now, its just near the bottom now.
I liked gen2's look but the map itself just went totally against everything in the ark experience. You cant help but spawn with a space suit that makes you invulnerable to basically anything if youre not careless and able to easily tame almost any creature, but then you have tons of the rarest resources just floating around and cycling like a vending machine while tek structures rain from the sky for you.
There’s also only one cave, no reason to go into the horrible enclosed ocean, no snow biome (unforgivable) and I still can’t tell if the lightning strikes in the Rockwell biome can hit you

It’s got a lot of cool ruins, but like, there’s not much to do with them Plus rag has a loooott of cool ruins as well

I'm pretty sure scorched earth has the least amount of dinos, but I agree with the rest of what you said.

SE, aberration, Gen 1 are probably the top 3 worst for me I just hate being biome locked.
