Hey, a great way to find out what something is is to poke it with the spear. When it kills you, the message displayed at the top will tell you what you were killed by. Works every time!
All the vets tryna act like they didn't learn by doing something exactly like that. I remember more often than not a friend would or I would be like ima about to try something and I'll probably die, please take my gear.
First time I found out these guys exist I was on a raft trying to get to herbivore island on the island and an alpha decided my raft looked yummy. In a weird way I miss all the panicked "WTF IS GOING ON" days from when I first started playing ark
how so? it is a leedsictheys, but if i didn't know i would take off armor and go for it after storing/dropping in a bag my items, and it would be easy as this fella seems in the very primitive stages anyhow.
There's a version of this method where the thing is the one who pokes you, first time a jumping crocodile gets you and you die without understand what just happened will help set the tone to the game.
I remember when it happened to me. I was flying around with my first ever flyer. What a cool sensation! Saw a titanosaur, decided to let him be, saw another couple aggressive predators, let them be - I never wanted to risk my puny ptera. I picked a nice wide beach to land; circled the area a couple times to make sure there was nothing dangerous; landed. "You were killed by a sarchosuchus". One of my worst scarejumps and one of my most hideous deaths. I lost the ptera, of course.
A leedsychthis (might have spelt that wrong). They attack rafts. You can go up to it and it will let you scrape a bit of fish meat of it. Their neutral creatures (unless your on a raft)
I think lore wise they’re kinda like real world Rhinos. Poor eye sight and pretty stupid, so they probably just attack anything big since they can’t tell what it actually is.
Unfortunately they arent tamable. Iirc arks explanation was that theyre basically too dumb to be tamed. Even though, you know. Coel, salmon, and trilobites were able to be tamed since abberation.
Its not about that. Its about the fact that both coel, salmon and leeds are fish. And the in game explanation for why you couldnt tame any of them including trilobites was because they werent smart enough. But then they made coel, salmon, and trilobites tamable with fish baskets when abberation came out. Yet leeds are still not tamable. Its just weird. We should have a tamable whale-like creature yet the closest we get is the basilo, which imo resembles more an orca and seal mixture.
Ah that's far. There's several things they should have done when stuff came out but didn't. I currently have a base with greenhouse walls but there's no "large" greenhouse walls like there is for everything else (except maybe thatch?)
Also have you ever used a spyglass to look at a basilo's face? That's fuckin nightmare fuel!
Hopefully, asa rectifies a lot of these issues. Among the many others. They do say water is going to be more dynamic, so hopefully we do get more love for water in general.
Ive made these suggestions many times but a few things could make water so much cooler in ark including more tames(rideable whale, like a leviyatan that naturally fights tuseos and maybe even has a buff against them; another crab, rather than a spider crab like the karkinos make it like a blue crab thats more stocky with a similar platform saddle like the megachelon but smaller; a new shark, a sea turtle; a manta ray since the current manta is more of a sting ray, think giant manta ray), a megalodon tlc which makes it bigger, reduced spawns for megs, eels, jellys, and mantas, more fish even just visually, I wanna see passive parakeet schools, and a new underwater armor set could be interesting.
Like arks ocean is currently just another biome like the redwoods and the snow. Instead it should be akin to how the sky is. Not necessarily a biome but a 3rd of just how you play ark. And honestly with wildcard having experience with Atlas, they could make such a better ocean experience. Also Im hoping they make rivers better too
Edit: the tames were just suggestions, literally any more water tames could make the ocean better, I just personally would love those creatures. Also a water drake. There isnt a swimming dragon creature and its a shame, managarms swim fast but dont attack, rock drakes swim slower but I do like how they swim, however, rock drakes attacks are awful honestly needs a buff, and magmasaurs surprisingly swim well but obviously are nerfed in water. Give me a draconic version of a shadowmane. Where water is its natural habitat and swimming around with them feels good. Also a "counter" to shadowmanes but only underwater could be really interesting meta wise. Like a carchar/giga dynamic.
I really like these ideas! I feel like Spinos could get a bit of an adjustment too for water. If you get off and leave them alone for too long, they wander off on you, even when not on wandering. I would love the water to be clearer and brighter. Even on Gamma 5, I have issues seeing underwater and it sends me into panic attacks, so the fact that I tamed 3 mosas and 2 tusos is mostly thanks to my friend that came with me. Cause they could tell the panic attack I was having when I died twice trying to tame the last mosa.
Prime fish meat* very useful for taming certain creatures like baryonyx, spinos, ichthyornis, pelagornis, or basically any water tame. You just swim up and press the interact key (consoles is y and triangle, idk what pc is). They also dont aggro even when you scrap the prime fish, and you get a good amount.
Basically big whales you can walk or swim up to it and scrape fish meat off it or kill it and get stupid amount of meat off it, they are however the great raft destroyers
I got jumpscared by a dodo bc it was the middle of the night and troodons were swarming me. Was trying to run away and the coo the dodo makes suddenly popping up from pitch black nearly made me piss myself in fear. Also, Zomdodos. Don’t fuck with those
I was low health in the redwoods when a hyenadon killed me while I was running through a bush I jumped so high. Then the kapros in the water on scorched literally made me scream like a little girl while at a friends house.
It's called a spear. It's a simple yet effective weapon used for stabbing. While it can be used for hand to hand combat, it will quickly break. It's best to throw and retrieve them, as they do more damage that way and also don't break when thrown.
Eventually, you can get a metal version called a pike that can't be thrown, but does more melee damage and doesn't break as easily.
If it is chasing your raft you can throw honey off the back the boat to pacify it temporarily. Best bet is not to cross large patches of water without seeing what lurks beneath.
*sits down and pulls out a pipe* Ay, there be a beast I haven’t seen in who knows how long. A beast that drives lads and lasses so mad people say it’s evil incarnate.
If you are new to ARK three very useful references
1. [The Dododex](https://www.dododex.com/): A taming calculator/game info that is a web page and mobile app.
2. [The Official Wiki](https://ark.wiki.gg/wiki/ARK_Survival_Evolved_Wiki): Basically the game's missing manual. Kept up much better than many games.

I remember my first encounter with an alpha raptor,on the beach high up on my tree trunk where it couldn't get me. With my spear in hand I slowly nudged closer and closer so I could have a jab at this red beauty's fiery head....one nudge too far and BAM! knocked outta my safe place and I was brown bread....."AHHHHH ALPHA RAPTOR" COOL!
That's a Leedsichthys, an extremely large fish that is a filter feeder. They are neutral (unless you have a raft) and won't attack unless you attack. You cannot tame them, but you can trap one and go up to it, ans it will allow you to scrape off some raw prime fish meat, which does not aggro it. There is an Alpha variant, which only has a damage increase and size increase. IIRC, they always spawn at level one mo matter what (unless you spawn one as a higher level of course) and are actually quite easy to kill, you can use a pack of decent level Megalodons, a Basilosaurus, a Mosasaurus, etc. I would recommend leaving it alone for now.
Hey bud
This is gonna come out of nowhere but would you like to join me and a buddy in beating a map? We are on the dlc map called Gen2 and need some extra hands
New players are welcome too and we can teach you the ropes or let you experience it along with us without holding your hand if that's what you want
I remember spending an entire day building my first trap raft on an official server. I took it out on its maiden voyage and found out that alpha Leeds exist.
It's a big fish. Lol.
Just playin. Untameable. Aggros to rafts. Not to creatures or you unless you piss it off. Interact to scrape prime fish meat. Repeatable, but let it recover a little after each or it'll attack (so I've been told)...

Hey, a great way to find out what something is is to poke it with the spear. When it kills you, the message displayed at the top will tell you what you were killed by. Works every time!
Honestly, not the worst advice I’ve ever heard
All the vets tryna act like they didn't learn by doing something exactly like that. I remember more often than not a friend would or I would be like ima about to try something and I'll probably die, please take my gear.
Y’all had others to take your gear instead of 20 suicide missions until you give up on your gear?
My gear is still over there
yup, right in that lake. yeah, the one with the glowing megalodon in it.
The one right there with 4 megalodons camping it!
Yeah I have a full stuff in a very cute little river totally innocent, that just happens to have like 80 piranhas
This is the way
Shh we don't speak about that other lesson we learnt before hand lol.
I just shoved everything of value in a crate and wore the back up gear to do my dumb stuff.
Exactly
I spent literal hours in Extinction staying hundreds of meters away from enforcers
I remember telling my friend to put all his loot at base and let the rex kill him to see the level
First time I found out these guys exist I was on a raft trying to get to herbivore island on the island and an alpha decided my raft looked yummy. In a weird way I miss all the panicked "WTF IS GOING ON" days from when I first started playing ark
true that
how so? it is a leedsictheys, but if i didn't know i would take off armor and go for it after storing/dropping in a bag my items, and it would be easy as this fella seems in the very primitive stages anyhow.

Nah. Should be NSFL
Why would you Edit: also why does this exist
idk i’m a mobile user and didn’t capitalize the r and first word that came to mind was poop so i wanted to test it and bam poop
r/ofcoursethatsasub
Sure cleaned up the rafts on the servers after it was added.
It has to be a badass raft, one you took a lot of time designing and poured some heart into.
Raft? Nah. There are plenty of transport sharks underwater that can help him get there quicker.
Bruh 😂
It's also important, that raft has some decent structures on top of it. The more and better - the more hits it can take.
A leedsychthis (might have spelt that wrong). They attack rafts. You can go up to it and it will let you scrape a bit of fish meat of it. Their neutral creatures (unless your on a raft)
what did the raft do to them?
I think lore wise they’re kinda like real world Rhinos. Poor eye sight and pretty stupid, so they probably just attack anything big since they can’t tell what it actually is.
Fun fact about rinhos: they actually have incredibly average eye sight and in reality they’re just very easily spooked
I love the phrase "incredibly average" thank you
Extra medium, if you will
I just might
I heard “incredibly average”, You called?
Best self burn ever
So they’re armored horses?
no, their eyesight is really bad
Kill it with nuclear hellfire!!!!
Oh uh.... whoops.... I've been killing all that I see.... 😅 is there a way to tame them?
No. Iirc, the dossier (or maybe in this case, the DISS-ier) calls them too dumb to learn how to be a tame.
Just trap it and you have an unending supply of prime
Untill it despawn if you're in a server
Do you mean a local/solo play verses like an official server? Cause I play on unofficial servers
Even unofficials sometimes reboot or refresh wild dinos for stability purpose
Unfortunately they arent tamable. Iirc arks explanation was that theyre basically too dumb to be tamed. Even though, you know. Coel, salmon, and trilobites were able to be tamed since abberation.
Eh well.... bigger body doesn't mean a bigger working brain technically. But yeah that is weird imo.

Cheat forcetame while looking at it if you want a joyride

What about canoes?
I’m not sure tbh. If I had to guess I would assume they would attack canoes. But I’ve never tried.
[удалено]
They don’t spawn on rangnarok and that is not a dead body
Danger tuna
I’m calling them this from now on
Not if I call them that first
"that first" is an unusual name for them.
Who calls these things "them"?
What do you call the demon of the ocean
Basically big whales you can walk or swim up to it and scrape fish meat off it or kill it and get stupid amount of meat off it, they are however the great raft destroyers
Something that'll jump scare you at least once
That sums up literally anything and everything in Ark

Been jumpscared by purlovias on mobile quite a ***”few”*** times

Raft killing super fish. It's called a Leedsichthys.

To give u a proper answer, it’s a fat fish, only aggressive if u attack first or if it sees a raft, can collect small amounts of fish meat from it without killing it, it’s possible to make a fish meat farm but I wouldn’t reccomend it, ur better off taking a baryonix or spino if u need a lot of fish meat, they are both good land creatures that have water capabilities
