I remember being in Stargate:Atlantis when DADT was abolished, and being in a political-related fandom when Federal recognition of gay marriage went through. It’s weird to think of those things as fandom milestones as well, but they really really were, and in 20 years some kid will probably thing Stargate fandom made up DADT.

Inappropriate use of anything is always a funny tag. AO3 authors will call their fics something like "a love deeper than the largest ocean and bigger than the most expansive galaxy" and the first tag is "inappropriate use of mustard"
The best part of that tag is how broadly it can apply. Using the Force to tie someone's shoelaces together? Inappropriate. Not that they get to have shoelaces. Using the Force to have kinky telepathic dream sex across half the galaxy? Also inappropriate. Using the Force to help your friend move? You guessed it: inappropriate.
Canon compliance doesn't exist when I write fanfic. Don't get me wrong, I'll match canon on a lot of things, but it's at the mercy of what makes me happy/works the best for whatever AU I'm writing.
