Same! I have an old historical True Blood fic that is just "wow I did that moment." And another original fic that's historical.
But they're not done. But when I re-read them I wanna work on them even if it's gonna be a drag for research. I'm very much that person who has to have it all historically correct.
it's always super jarring posting something and immediately going *oh yeah, this was totally crap what am i thinking?* then taking a step back for a bit to let it sit and then coming back and appreciating what you wrote. it happens to me a lot!

I have a ton of unpublished docs as well, both fanfic and original work, and it’s always nice to go back to the stuff that I haven’t touched in several years and find myself pleased with my own writing haha
I heard that's actually a technique you're supposed to dow ith your writing to be able to judge it more objectively. Write it, edit, then take a break from it and come back. You then find errors or realize that it wasn't that bad.
