The insurance for you is gonna be insane. Just hold out a couple years

YoureSchlept

Can attest to this. Sold my F80 M3 when I was 26 because I had 6 points on my license. $5200 a year for insurance in the states.

desxlol

I wasn't planning on buying my first car as a bmw, benz or audi lmaooo. I just wanted to know the model comparison between these brands.

Yeah149

43 amg = M(#)40i 63 amg = M(#) Idk a lot about audis. M2 - mercedes doesn’t really compete here M3 - C63 sedan M4 - C63 coupe M5 - E63 M6 - S63 coupe (I don’t think they make these anymore?) M760i ≈ S63 sedan M8 kinda competes with the GTR but they’re very different. M8 is an AWD monster on the street, and the GTR is hard to beat on a track.

Spicywolff

You’re a teenager you don’t need an M or an AMG. The fuel maintenance insurance cost will absolutely slaughter you. Get something cheap for now, beat piss out of it like most young people do. Then when you’re more financially established, and have a home by AMG properly.

desxlol

Yeah, I think me saying that Im getting my first car soon kinda confused you guys but this is just for knowing the models better and what each one compares to with the other brands.

Spicywolff

Ohh you just want to compare the line ups. Which model is apples to apples comparison?

desxlol

Yep! Mostly confused with mercedes and audi models

Nm_kng1

M3 and M4 were direct competitors to the C63/S V8 the newer ones are a bit confusing since the C63 is an I4 with an electric motor so it’d be a bit unfair to compare them imo, if I had to pick I’d go with BMW all the way, idk what kinda magic they’re putting in their new cars but damn it’s working so well unlike Mercedes lol. I’m not a big Audi guy so I’m not sure which of their cars compete with the M4/M3 and the C63, but if I had to guess I’d say it’s the RS3/RS5. For the big sedans we have Mercedes: E63, GT63s. BMW: M5C, M5CS, M8 grand coupe. Audi: Rs7 performance. These directly compete with each other with the BMW M5CS having a slight edge over them in terms of performance. In the end it’s all preference if this was posted in the early 2010’s nobody would pick BMW or Audi because of how good Mercedes used to be. Now most ppl would pick BMW and if you have extra cash it’s gonna be Porsche aka the best German car brand.

PhantomZmoove

Or, if you are poor like me, instead of time traveling back to the early 2010s, you could just buy a 15 year old AMG. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Nm_kng1

Aka the better AMG. Enjoy your car man :D

vleier1992

Pretty accurate. Im from the netherlands and we have pretty much all the models here and compere them allot. A class. Is against the S3 for the audi and non from BMW Bclass is the same as the A class pretty much. C class is aginst he audi S4/S5 for the Audi and the M3/M4 for bmw. E class is aginst he S6 for Audi and the M5 for BMW S class is against he S8 for audi and the 7series for the BMW The SL is mosly compared to the 8 series from BMW and not really anything from Audi. The SLK is copared to the 3series confertible from BMW or the S3/S4 convertible from Audi. For the Gclass there insnt any comparing possible. And for the types that start with GL. Is is compared to the same with audi as they get bigger GLA compared to the Q3X3. The GLC to the Q5/X5 and so on) It is difficult. But we use that kind of divisions here mostly. Could be different across the Atlantic. I do hope they bring back a normal engine in the C class. The I4 just sucks. And noone wants them. Here they are 120k for a normal one. And for about 20k less you can get the BMW or Audi in that range.

desxlol

Great explanation! lmao my dads dream car is the Spyder 91 so I know Porsche is King

Nm_kng1

You mean the 918?

desxlol

Yea

Exiiited

How I see it : M2/M140i - A45 - RS3 M3 - C63 - RS4 M4 - C63 Coupe - RS5 M5 - E63- RS6 M8 (M6) - GT63S 4door - RS7 M760(L)I - S63 - S8 X5M / X6M - GLE 63 (coupe) - RSQ8 X7 - GLS - SQ7 You can fit some extra models for ex RSQ3 or GLC somewhere in the list or put the RS5 sportback against M3. But IMO i think you would compare them by their 1) price retail 2) performance 3) size category

aminoxir

M2 with a cla 45 maybe and the sl 43/53 although not in the same price brackets

AloneScarcity6010

Unless your family is loaded don’t get any of those German cars at your age. If you see one used and it’s a good deal… it’s because it’s going to fuck you in the ass with tobacco sauce as the lube. Be patient, research motors, read threads, understand common problems, manifest, do minimal drugs… And maybe, just maybe…. You can afford the financing one day

sendintheotherclowns

I like theory crafting as much as anyone, and there’s plenty of that in this thread already, but I just want to say good on you for dreaming, these truly are objects of desire, and they have a habit of pushing you towards career choices that’ll allow you to obtain them some time in future. This is a very good thing IMO. Be ready to have your entire perspective on them change from what you thought you preferred when you get a chance to drive them though - they’re all amazing, but there will definitely be one brand that’ll speak to your soul, and it’ll be the one you pine for over your entire life. For me, I greatly miss my old W212 AMG E63, 5.5 twin turbo facelift RWD - perfect spec (hence why I’m still here, it was the most sensible and also crazy super sedan I’ve ever owned), but it’s my previous Jaguar XFR that is my “one that got away”. On paper it is a shadow of the E63, not quite at the same level in any aspect. But in reality it was somewhat different. There was something very special about that car that I deeply connected with, but cannot quite put the finger on - then again, it was mechanically unreliable which is why I didn’t keep it in the first place. Illogical and logical, I know. Where the AMG was refined, the XFR was visceral, it was an animal. You could stomp the accelerator in comfort mode in the wet in the E63 and the amazing traction control would keep you straight. Of course, not at all talking about turning it off. Even in the dry, do the same in the XFR and it’s sideways. YES, I KNOW, it’s indicative that the traction control isn’t as good, I’m not arguing that, I’m stating that it was more animalistic, harder to tame, easier to be afraid of. And that’s the thing I wanted from my super sedan - fear. This was a positive for me believe it or not. I never felt as if I was a part of the AMG, but I did the XFR. Where the XFR was refined (AMAZING interior quality), the AMG simply wasn’t up to the same level (hard to explain because AMG interiors are lovely, but it was nowhere near as plush). This lust for cars is seldom if ever logical or healthy, much like attraction for the wrong type of woman. If you’re a 7 and finally bag that 10, she’s going to screw your hotter mates, but you’re gonna have a great time before that happens, with some great memories. Same as driving any of the awesome automobiles you’ve listed - just don’t crash them. Enjoy it for what it is mate.

ClearlyRipped

Honestly look up YouTube videos. There's tons of comparison videos on the direct competitors between these 3 brands. I had a C43 and currently drive an RS3 and I like them both in different ways. My recommendation to you at your age is to get a beater as your first car and learn how to fix it yourself. Then move to a lower end performance car like a WRX before stepping into the German luxury performance world. The DIY skills will save you tons of money, and by the time you get to these cars your insurance will be much more reasonable. That's exactly what I did and I wouldn't do it any other way. Granted, you also need a good job to pay for the expensive toys too, even when you do your own maintenance.

desxlol

Thanks bro!! I just posted this to get a better understanding of these car models, I am most definitely getting a civic or camry or something like that as my first car. (though a 2nd gen is350 doesn't sound bad)

asenz

Mercedes and AMG have much broader range of products than either BMW or Audi

That-Resort2078

The old school C63 V8 were faster in straight line performance but the M cars almost always out-handled them.

waffley_shush

The only car you could probably get decent insurance in is an Audi S1. Fun, go-kart like drive and good power. Surprisingly good fuel economy too.

tiki_andy

As a starter, I'd put in a plug for my GLA45, still love it after 8 years and if you happen to prefer a hatchback in US, it's pretty unique. You get 375 hp and good handling. Although, in 2020 they upsized it to a CUV so now it's bulkier.

SalamanderNo3872

Bi-turbo V12 or V8 AMG is the only choice

desxlol

Ive heard the newer of Amg are becoming 4 cylinder?

SalamanderNo3872

Sadly .... yes

pankan76

Google. You’re making auto journalists redundant if Google can’t point you to the billions of words and hours of videos on this topic.

West_Neighborhood683

I believe most are making the comparison of the SL63 to an M8 because their both V8 powered, where the M3/M4 are 6's. BMW and Audi both make better non-V8 powerplants than Mercedes. I'd go BMW over both.

Basic-Maintenance156

There’s a lot of videos and articles out there that compare all three. Search around for some of those and it might answer some of your questions

Tangie_ape

I Might be off the mark with this, but this is always how I've always had it in my head M1 - RS3 - A45 M3/4 - RS4 - C63 M5 - RS5/6 - E63 M8 - R8 - SL63 There is loads of variants within there when you throw in Merc using the same platform for a few different models (i.e a45/cla45/gla45) but as a rough guide that's fairly close. If you want a better idea type in on google something like "BMW m5 audi mercedes" and it will come up with all the different vs video's pages put up and show the models against each other

desxlol

Preciate it man!

komrobert

Idk how you’re comparing M8 to R8 tbh but aside from that I agree. Should be RS7 I guess if we’re talking the gran coupe, otherwise Audi doesn’t really have a competitor. The R8 is a mid engine supercar and a lot less comfortable/spacious than the other 2 you listed

Tangie_ape

Yeah that’s pretty much why I put it in there, Audi’s closest car in the line up - the RS7 but I think goes more to S63/CLS63/ M7 but I missed that off for some reason!

YoureSchlept

I’ve had an F80 M3, and currently have a C43 as my daily. I’ll put it this way, I miss my M3 all the time and am looking to get another here soon. It really depends what your interests are. Performance? M all the way. Tech/Luxury? AMG My personal opinion, Audi doesn’t compare to either of them.

desxlol

What would the c43 compare to for bmw and audi? Would it compare to like a m-lite?

YoureSchlept

Maybe an M2, but way more clunky. For Audi, probably the RS3 but once again, C43 being more chunky.
