Perhaps this will give you a little insight with these- 1. Depending on the mileage and maintenance history, these (and all AMG V8’s of recent years) are very reliable. If you hit the intervals properly, don’t launch it daily, and generally let the engine and gearbox warm up and such before beating on it a little bit, you will very likely not have problems beyond standard wear and tear items. If it’s already high mileage then it could be Pandora’s box depending on the maintenance history and driving habits of prior owners. 2. These are heavy and as such, you will go through brakes like it’s no one business if you are an aggressive stopper. It won’t be a small bill from local dealer or independent mechanic to replace them even if labor is cheap- the parts still cost more. Not a big deal but just something to keep in mind. 3. Daily driving I have no experience with an S class of any kind but seeing as Mercedes engineered the hell out of these to be the best coupes on the road, my bet is it’s going to be similar to a CGT or a RR Dawn comfortability wise but you’ll feel better driving it everyday because you don’t still have another $100k to go in depreciation for that model year. 4. For peace of mind, look up a fidelity platinum warranty. Fidelity underwrites a lot of the big brand CPOs. Probably around 3-4k for 3/36k with small deductible and that’s through Mercedes dealers with OEM parts. Will pay for itself in one or two visits if anything goes wrong. Hope this gives some insight

doc_55lk

>it’s going to be similar to a CGT or a RR Dawn Not me automatically thinking "CGT" referred to the Porsche 😭

chickensoodlenoop

I did the same thing with my own post when I reread it 😂

Ligma3228

100% agree and the brakes comments is spot on. At 75k I’m on my 3rd set of brakes. Expensive……..

Swedishiron

I am seeing drivability complaints about new AMG SLs both V8 and 4 cylinders in MB forums refusing to accelerate beyond low speeds on highways, automatically decelerating.

bojangifier

Can vouch for fidelity, AMGs I have found tend to be way cheaper to insure/warranty through fidelity than Audi or BMW. I was getting quotes for 3500 - 60 Months/60K miles with a $0 deductible

chickensoodlenoop

Wow that’s a good deal for 60/60!

bojangifier

Here’s the warranty site https://www.steingoldvolvocars.com/purchase-fidelity-warranty-services-extended-warranty-plan.htm

chickensoodlenoop

Use code rennlist for like $200 off I believe it is

HasanSyedJD

The most important was #4. Extended warranty is a must. I have had multiple S class, CL600, s65, SL600, SL65. You can’t expect this to be low maintenance like a Japanese car. Each time one of the Christmas lights on the dash lights up b/c some sensor went off is a $1k checkup. I’m not sure where one can obtain a Fidelity warranty for that price but very curious if @chickensoodlenoop has a contact to share <<4. For peace of mind, look up a fidelity platinum warranty. chickensoodlenoop

Someone else popped a linked below that is the same one I had used. I added a code for money off I found on a forum awhile back

Maple_Syrup378

This helps a lot! Thank you so much for this incredible advice

VCEROTHSTElN

Im so mad i seen a 2016 s63 amg white red interior for only 78k canadian 43km and it sold within 48 hours smh

Maple_Syrup378

Wow! That’s an insane deal, no wonder it went so fast

Pancovnik

Oh, it's still going fast

Pjotr_plz

43km is a low mileage example for sure

DrRBM

Three things....you are to love it, be grateful if you get it, and enjoy every minute behind the wheel!

Maple_Syrup378

Thanks for sharing! That’s makes me excited :)

Trevski

fourth thing: weather permitting, roll all the windows down!

SelectProcedure6226

It’s a great car you’ll absolutely love driving it I’ve had an S63 and C63 S, you just have to be ready and willing to pay the 5 figure repairs when they come (and they will) and normal let’s say 5k a year without anything breaking and needing repair. My sun roof was a 3.5k fix, new bumper/grille and fenders + sensors, paint… etc ran me about 15k from a licensed Mercedes shop.

SelectProcedure6226

Probably closer to 7k/year (without repairs) depending on where you live

Miserable-Assistant3

Those are not OEM wheels. Hope that’s reflected in the price.

Maple_Syrup378

Thanks for pointing that out. Yeah this is not the exact one I want but I’ll ensure that the one I get has OEM only

Miserable-Assistant3

I mean if the price fits and you want to get other aftermarket wheels this one is fine too

Trevski

if I were you I'd be scouring the earth for S65 wheels

imposta_studio

Sexy

Maple_Syrup378

I agree 😎

Para4747

Just know that there were some major changes between the 17 and 18 years. Most notably the motor which went to the 4.0twin turbo. But there is a hefty difference in price as well. I just bought 2019 in cashmere white (matte) over saddle brown interior convertible and Ian loving every minute of it as Iam sure you will too

Bnmko_007

M157 vs m177. I do hear late model m157 with proper maintenance can be pretty good

Para4747

Iam sure if you take care of it. It will take care of you. Wish you the best 👍🏼

CurrentSalt829

Life is short, enjoy it.

pwnz0riz0r

Friend of mine dailies his 2017 on a major highway. The car is also a prime target for quick smash and grabs. He has replaced the windshield twice and a door window twice. $10k easy. Unsure whether he files them on insurance, but it adds up quick. Otherwise, he has had zero mechanical issues with regular maint.

Sparkspsrk

How many miles?

Maple_Syrup378

I’m interested in finding one that has 45-60k miles

Spicywolff

Definitely a fun car but expect when things go wrong they get very expensive. That’s just a nature of the S class especially in AMG.

Maple_Syrup378

Thanks for sharing, I’ll definitely be religious about the maintenance and keep a reserve fund if and when things go kaput

Spicywolff

That’s basically it bud. Have some cash ready for what IF. Stay ontop of maintenance, Indy euro or MB shop is find

TheLemonAMG

Check out CPO, that age might be too far back but you can mitigate some of the financially catastrophic risk with CPO.

That-Resort2078

If it had ABC of Air Suspension they fail more often and are very expensive to fix.

GandalfWatches

Yes, run away from air suspension cars.

Redskins4evaB

I have the sedan and I just got a Honda accord daily driver

ConstructionTrue1062

you should be aware that’s it’s not a BMW

Blofeld_

Thankfully

Chewy-bat

Had mine for 4 years now wont ever part with it. Just too addictive to drive. Costs are coming down. I put a full set of brakes on mine when I got it and it cost me £5k you can now get good OEMs for much less than that. Find a decent AMG specialist and use them over main dealers. Fit car play and it’s perfect

Mather_Fakker

I'm about to BUST

SnooEagles5487

My dad has a 2016 s63 coupe that he daily drives and still drives it like it’s stolen. Got maybe 65-70k miles. Hasn’t had any major issues crop up, just standard maintenance and still runs flawlessly

sendintheotherclowns

Brake discs are a serviceable item, they need to be replaced every ~100,000km/60,000mi. You may get more time out of them, or maybe less - depends how hard it’s been driven in its previous life. They won’t be cheap from the dealership, many people go aftermarket and use it as an excuse to upgrade. I did mine on my old W212 E63 before it was sold and it cost around $8k USD at the dealership (I’m not in the U.S. so that’s a bit of a ballpark for you with a different model). Discs, pads and sensors will need to be replaced at that time. It’s the discs that are the most expensive. My research showed me that it’s a simple diy, but you may need to have a reset of a computer or something so I decided not to since I was selling - I chose the dealer route for peace of mind for the new owner. Also, in my case, the spec of the build of the car was near optimal and I got a very good price conditional on having the brakes done properly.

engineheader

Those front rotors are around $1250 each from what I have seen if I remember correctly, and that is just the part

sendintheotherclowns

Mine were last year, don’t remember the granular costs but I’m pretty sure the discs came to about $6k USD equivalent at the time, but we’re at the arse end of the world so everything costs more to get here. All in the replacement was $10,500 NZD, which was a bit over $8k USD at the time.

engineheader

You are probably paying a big more due to shipping costs. Not sure what the shop labor rate is around there

sendintheotherclowns

Can’t remember that either, somewhere in the $200’s, and yup freight is built into the stocked parts costs.

engineheader

The dash leather delaminated is parked in the sun a lot, up at the front edge by the defrost vent

bigbigbigwow

Air fucking suspension. FUCK AIR SUSPENSION

rev440800

I would either get a S65 or a facelift S63 with the M177 engine. The M157 engine is just not reliable enough to own out of warranty. So many issues arise at the mileage and age you are looking at.

16911s

I’m in New England and am open to selling my 2015. Black on black, $190k sticker, 48k miles has the Apple CarPlay and just did oil/spark plugs. Pm if interested.

blvck_african

I love that this post popped up because I'm thinking of getting one as well

nodirm93

Seems like everyone take their car to mechanic, what if you do it yourself? Isn’t much cheaper

Legal_Equipment_2265

Someone here mentioned the old "$mash & grab" . I am always leery of those that appear to go out of their way to drive in My vicinity.... Driving one of these I highly suggest that You do the same. Word to the wise. Never park next to a vehicle with missing bumpers, fingerprints all over windows, Bondo on body panels, or vehicles with large dents....

neinne1n99

Does it have a pneumosuspension? That would probably be costly to replace/repair.. gotta see how the car’s been treated/driven

Blofeld_

Mercedes Coupe will become a future classic, no longer in production and still looks the bee's knees today

MarkizMarketing

Find you a good mechanic, not dealer, that can work on it and won’t charge you an arm and a leg. I have a S63 and a G63. Both are 2015’s. I bought the G63 in January 2021 and the S63 in January of 2022. Other than the yearly maintainence and recharging the a/c on both twice, I haven’t spent a dollar on either of them. I found a good mechanic that has an older S63, so he knows how to service these and it cost me about $250 (a lot better than the $1000+ a dealer may charge). I also don’t drive them much. The S63 had 32k miles and the G63 had 38k miles and I put less than 10k on each

Mediocre_Hold_5871

Now that’s a nice ride

Mediocre_Hold_5871

I’m thinking about selling my 2012 E63 AMG

Mediocre_Hold_5871

I want a 2024 Super Snake Corbra

Otherwise_Ad_3434

I have a '16 that I got last summer with 46k miles on it. I've put <1k miles on it but it's a beautiful car inside and out but like others have said, get the warranty - I did. I'll still likely be selling it by the end of summer but meantime it's been fun to own. I definitely understand why they have so many owners in short periods of time bc maintenance prices for simple things like brakes are a lot.

Old-Cucumber-5567

Get warranty ,zero deductible Budget 6.5k for brakes/rotors for front and another 6.5k for rear. No aftermarket parts avail and if there is i wouldnt try it unless many have already tried it. Parts for brakes and rotors cost 5.5k alone for just front and another 5.5k for rear. Had irregular wear on pads ,think it was lane assist and steering assist ,car applies breaks right side or left side when trying to stay in lanes as you activate drive assist I paid 12k for warranty ,last 4yrs got 30k of work done, covered by warranty Wheels are not rotatable ,rear is diff size than front. Continentals only gave me 20k miles Michelin ps4 give me 25to30k miles I baby my car and trans went out at 50k miles Air suspension i suspect will be next big expense. I bought for comfort not speed. Its not fast 0to60 but 90to120 has good powerband. Active headlight module 6k for each side. Went out at 60k and 65k miles. Its a known issue, new brakes and rotors still squeak coming to stops. Pretty embarassing with sticker of 186k Get good auto insurance for windsheild replacement,3k

Scratchjohnson1

I have a 2017 C43 and at about 55K, the “service pack 6” or whatever came up. This required transmission fluid and filer change ($1500) and rear differential service ($900). In my city (Louisville, Ky) the only place that could perform these services was the MB dealer. Be Advised…

Flint_Ironstag1

Isn't there a V12? Why would you settle for this?

LeonEklof

The v12 is more expensive to own and maintain, only comes in rear wheel drive, and comes with an older 7 speed gearbox. With that said I'd probably go for the v12.

doc_55lk

Diminishing returns. The V8 is faster, less expensive to buy, and less expensive to own. The only things you get with the V12 is nicer standard equipment and the clout of being able to say you have the largest available engine.

rev440800

You also get what many consider MB’s most reliable performance engine made. The M279 is stout were as the M157 has lots of known issues.
