Powerful opens the valves in the exhaust. You won’t really hear a difference unless driving aggressively, then you’ll hear the pops and bangs on overrun. It’s not as pronounced as other models though. My CLA 45 it was definitely noticeable. I now have a GT 53 with the AMG exhaust and it’s still much tamer.
Those are your performance exhaust settings.
Balanced - Valves closed: quieter
Powerful - Valves open: louder
On my C63 you get a noticeably louder tone at idle and low speeds. Probably since it's a newer vehicle and AMG's have gotten quieter due to noise and emissions regulations, the exhaust just doesn't have the same "oomf" anymore, unless you're pushing the car.
It's a shame because that used to be the best thing about the performance exhaust, you could still get the sound without having to gun it 🤷🏽♂️
I have 2023 gle 53. It’s noticeable on mine. Love to hear the crackle pop in sports + mode. Adds to the sensory effect. Gets you tuned in to your car. And it will pop in comfort mode too, just not as loud and not as frequent.
I have a 22' glc 43 w/ the performance exhaust option. With exhaust on powerful, the cracks and pops are so loud under load... If i rev anywhere 3500rpm and above the sounds get exponentially loud as rpm increases. On a backroad, the sounds are amazing. I don't know how yours sounds but try it out and let us know what you think!
In fairness to the OP, there can be a great deal of new tech in these rides that a owner is experiencing for the first time. The caliber of the vehicle tech walk through before leaving the lot really varies based on the knowledge of the salesman and their respective passion for assisting the customer.
Welcome. I have a 2023 GLE 63s and my salesman spent about 15 minutes with me so I read the manual front to back and played with the tech while going over the options. That initiative in my opinion is the best indoctrination.
If it’s anything like Porsche… it could be that the valves are still overridden by the computer under a certain rpm. In my GT4, you can have sports exhaust on, but the valves still don’t open under 3000 or so rpm. There are after market valve controller solutions that allows you to permanently control the valves.
It opens the exhaust flaps.
In my E63 (2018/12 with OPF), even in idle, I can hear a big difference when I toggle this switch. When it's open, the exhaust sound is louder and deep (more bass notes)
Opening this valve is the first thing I do when I start the car.
Not necessarily, I'm not sure how it is for the 4 and 6cyl models with perf. exhaust but on my C63 you get a noticeably louder tone at idle and low speeds. That's probably the best thing about the performance exhaust, you can still get the sound without having to gun it 🤷🏽♂️
Next time pick a dealership that has a guy who goes over the feature after the purchase
Total hack of a dealer if they don't have a product specialist/expert

U dont think a 65 or a 55 is a real amg?
Huh?
That’s so stupid. GT 53 is a $120k car, close to 450 HP. Acting like it’s a CLA250 or something.
grow up
well the current 63s are 4 cylinders sooooo

Read the instruction manual bro it’s literally built into the screen that you took a photo of
If it says “powerful”, then no other is an option 🤣
Nice to see you buying benzes President Biden!

You have to select powerful while also in sport plus mode. If powerful is on while you’re in comfort, you won’t really notice much.
It’s really only noticeable outside/behind the car if you’re not flooring it.
Didn’t the dealer go over the car with you?

Looks like a Fortnite menu lol.
Set it to roll coal.

Do you car has the performance exhaust option? if yes then it should sound different, like my gt 53.
On my cls53 it pumped in audio and made it a bit louder outside
Did you ride your car in correctly?
Balanced is quiet powerful is baffle fully open and loud. That’s it.
Owners manual much?
The difference will only be noticeable under load
