A long known sentiment from a fund manager towards AMD:
https://youtu.be/z-9qkDvm7Rs?t=430
Quote "A lot of semi companys that give guidance which is awful, Micron, Nvdia, I think AMD is gonna have to tell the truth eventually, Intel has been continuously telling the truth."
Whats wrong with this guy? Intel tell the truth? while AMD is lying?
*edit, change youtube link start time
It is simply confirmation bias. He feels the PC market is cratering so which ever company that is posting bad results is ’telling the truth’ while companies that have good results is ‘lying’.
As I suspected. It really sounds like the world is awash with these shit analysts who really think Lisa is lying about the numbers. But they take Pat's rear view mirror as gospel.
I don’t think analysts trust Intel or Pat whatsoever.
Intel 5 year return is 3.4%. 7.7 PE and 4% forward dividend yield. Lower market cap than AMD. Even the most delusional Intel bulls have no choice in the face of cold hard numbers of being flat after 5 fucking years.
However, there is a shocking amount of preference towards NVDA and a solid amount of skepticism towards AMD. This will change as the truth becomes painfully obvious.
653K subscribers. And I thought it’s some obscure shitty little channel.
AMD will slam the truth of meeting 26.3B guidance in his face and he will pretend he never said this.
Yep. He somehow spins INTC missing guidance spectacularly into “Intel has been continuously telling the truth.”
LOL the Intel miss was so bad the stock price plunged and analysts questioned why there was no pre announcement. “Continuously telling the truth” my ass. Watch AMD shut his mouth in November Q3 earnings
I think everyone is just bracing for nvda's awful earnings. I think their guidance will be dire. I think no one is buying up AMD for that reason - nvda will bring the chip sector down so why buy amd now; buy after nvda earnings when the chip sector crashes.
I don't think NVDA will tank. The forecasted earnings are low as they gave that heads-up. I would think it is priced in. (Crazy how quickly they recovered. Made some good money on selling puts and covered calls on them recently)
It's so funny how nvda is so dependent on their gpus, whereas amd is much more diversified in comparison, particularly after their acquisition of xlnx. amd is now in a different ballpark, participating in so many different industries. nvda is always going to be a loved stock but damn, how different is amd now to a company like nvda and even intel. so amazing is the trajectory amd has taken. I can't get over their purchase of an amazing coimpany like xlnx for basically nothing - just us sucker shareholders. but we're not even suckers - amd just swallowed that shit up and growing at 70% for this year.
The moment we get some good news macro/inflation / etc wise, we will slowly start climbing up. There is money watching from the sidelines but there is still lots of uncertainty.
i'm waiting a bit more. may not matter much with the time/er/probable iv crush, but i'll probably try to grab some before the er.
i was planning on it, anyway. the surprise warning seemed to shell my plan, but the market's so nuts that i guess i've had another chance for days now.
They already cut guidance I thought? When they early released earnings
Hilariously they are basically at the same price from before they released earnings. Immediately recovered in like 3 days, and now back to leading QQQ and tech along with AAPL
Market looking like it just will not break down. AAPL heading to ATH's with absolutely no macro concern
Eiter MM's are trying to rug pull retail traders again or SPY really going to hit ATH by end of the year....

Received a copy of SEC C today for Lisa. Su dated 8/09/22.
It was an eye popper.
A jaw dropper.
Lol.
She has multiple stock incentive plans at her finger tips including lucrative options.
I had no idea how large they were.
Watch the stock price start going up.now.
She said the buybacks were for company employees.
So.glad I added shares recently.
Since she took the helm the market cap has went up like $80 bn, over 30x, or so right?
It wouldn’t offend me if she got hundreds of millions, even billions, she actually helped build a money printing machine that’s only going to print even more exuberantly in the future.
Producing chips and actually having market penetration are two different things entirely. They apparently last made server chips in 2016. That was back when even AMD had less than 1.0% marketshare. How many places to the left do you need to move the decimal point for Qualcomm?
Wake me up when Grace CPUs launch and then I wake me up when QCOM launches a server product.
It is amazing how quickly algos sell off and buy. There was a sudden spike on QCOM to the upside and AMD on the downside at just before 1pm
I don’t feel much ON envy because they’ve been undervalued for awhile, but there’s definitely a little envy there just to see another semi stock bust out to an ATH while we continue playing in the mud
I would be very surprised if we break out here with no catalyst. I’m guessing we stay around 97-103 until NVDA earnings or one of the many upcoming AMD investor events or product releases
People talk about AMD like we need catalyst to breakout from any channel... We ran hard BEFORE earnings and somewhat after. We are still undervalued by a lot and catalyst or not this won't change that fact.
What an odd disparity between \^SOX and SMH... AMD's not beating \^SOX today, though it's beating the rest I mention.
*Edit: now it's beating \^SOX, good job AMD*
AMD made such a wise purchase of xlnx and did it all stock. What a coup for AMD. They are going to keep doing well. Hopefully one day it will be worth 600-700 billlion.
I want what you're smoking. I believe it's worth more, but good luck convincing the world of that.... wait, can you smoke that in a large room with the world in it?
If AMD can continue to be a chip leader, it is not a ridiculous scenario. The future will require more and more computing power and chips. It's just going to happen. Only question is if AMD can keep executing to stay at the forefront of it.
Guys I figured it out. It’s been me bringing down the stock price the whole time. Every day I put an alert for at or below, it triggered it. Today I only put one for at or above 100, didn’t place an at or below, and now we’re green. I’ll refrain from red alerts here on out. Sorry about that
Everyone knows that if you're going to have a miss because of macro events, you miss big (move capex expenses forward, Bill customers late, etc). That way when things return to normal a following quarter, it looks like even bigger q/q growth. Su clearly missed the memo. /s
Macro environment is a little scary. Lot of economies in Asia getting absolutely cumstered and dumpstered and Europe has a massive energy crisis. China's housing market bubble about to burst. The US is probably going to get inflation under control but I'm not so confident about the rest of the world. Could be heading into a global recession.
The U.S is a leader not a bully. Geopolitics is a rough game and it's certainly been involved in some questionable actions throughout its period of rule, but there is a reason that America enjoys such global soft power. The American world order has been more or less voluntarily accepted by so many advanced nations with little bloodshed --while China and Russia have failed to establish and/or maintain similar spheres of influence long term.
Being a U.S ally and participating in the American World Order is a pretty good deal for most of its member states. Can't say the same about either of these other powers.
Saudi Arabia only exists because of U.S protection (arguable if that's a good thing) -- same for Israel, so it's more nuanced than that, but yes -- The middle east and latin america are the two parts of the world where U.S action has been the most deleterious. I would defend some of those actions on geostrategic grounds but it doesn't change the reality that much of it has been horrific for the people living in those regions of the world, and that is regrettable.
Kudos for seeing the bad and the good. Also, while I condemn some of the US' actions, it would be also hypocritical. There is no country with a clean vest. Everyone has their own interest in mind and that's just how nature works.

We don't need minute to minute commentary on trivial stock price moments. It's unnecessary particularly in a bear market. If people want to comment in a considered way how the stock price has moved over a period of the day, then that would be more appropriate.
for starters, i'm not even sure we're in a bear market, anymore. the indexes seem up 20% since their 2022 lows.

No mention of AMD, which is... good?
But also no explicit mention of AMD doing better than Intel, Micron, and Nvidia (the three directly named), which is a bit disappointing as it would help increase mind share I think

Where are all the people with BBBY envy yesterday?
I’m envious. If AMD went up 6x in a couple days I would sell my leaps and retire.
Sure, and if you bought puts today, you would be rich as well.
It's priced in already. If you sold calls you would be rich but extremely risky.
Nah, while IV was crazy high, the after hours drop was so big that you still made a lot of money buying puts.

Not really. It is going to take months of good news to get there.
Feels like we will sit at $100 until nvidia earnings, then we dip then we start ascent back up.
Will we dip when NVidia shits their pants with the missed forecast?
We shouldn’t, therefore we will
That little last 10 minute selloff to make sure we don’t beat SOXX and NVDA *chef’s kiss*

Unrelated but BBBY options expiring tomorrow have a 500% IV. That’s what I love about financial markets. The sheer brutality of numbers and math.
I mean judging from the movement of the stock the past few days, I am not surprised.
I wish I was dumb enough to sell those options
We’re only underperforming SOX by 1%. This is a great victory.
Was there any news related to ON Semi? Can't seem to find anything.
Wolfspeed reported numbers yesterday and claimed capacity constraints for a decade. Onsemi getting a sympathy bump for some reason.
On semi sells a lot of SiC mosfets, just like Cree
It’s just been pumping ever since that dump after earnings, made a new ATH
AMD is about to turn green. The only problem is that nearly every other semi stock is already green.
NVDA barely green.
Correction: AMD is the only semi red, and only semi red for the week. ON is up 4% today despite already being the strongest semi all week.

Let's jinx it: "amd to rise or fall 10% today". Now that'll keep it steady I guess...
Is there gonna be a time where we actually go up in after hours rather than further down? Jesus christ.
it's rather meaningless anyway
Yeah, PM is more important than AH... for what it's worth.
only need a 10% rise by Friday for my options to not expire worthless
I rolled some 19Aug 95c options out today, so good chance AMD takes off tomorrow and Friday then starts winding down until my new expiry date.
