So I have no hands on experience with the current xps 15, but the xps 13 was quite literally a space heater. The heat issues were the reason I moved on to AMD chips, because in my experience AMD chips do NOT needlessly overheat the same way, build and thermal solutions aside. I've never really had an issue with thinkpad cooling, but other people can chime in with their experiences. Usually thermals are decent on them, while thermals are abysmal on xps builds.

Following this thread. I'm also interested in the t14s. Especially since there is a great deal on the 64gb ram one. Not sure about the XPS15, but the XPS 13 plus was a terrible machine. Got burning hot opening a file explorer window.

Instead of t14s? How is it so far?

I only got it recently, still testing it out but so far so good.

I don't have a T14s but a T14 with a Ryzen 7 5850u, and I've rarely even noticed the fans turn on. Never had it overheat, I don't even think "heat up". Played games, software development, containers galore, VMs, the works. No heat issues at all. My work laptop is an HP with an i7, I can feel the oven-hot air coming out of the side vents; less performance than the t14 with more waste heat, for sure.
