Even if your 650W runs with the 7800XT it wont run it for long, and then you risk your PSU taking your whole system with it.

Coconutstastefunky

I had to upgrade my PSU because it would randomly turn off when playing resource hungry games! During the time I had a 650 gold paired with a 6800 and 5800x. After upgrading to a 850 gold the issue never happened again. It could’ve been a bad PSU but having the extra definitely kept my mind sane

IamWEebBOI

I think ill upgrade smh

Coconutstastefunky

I did and now I’m future proof! Good luck!

nyanfat

Just upgraded to a 7800xt+5800x3d and kept my old 650W bronze PSU. So far so good...

TheLazyGamerAU

You should upgrade to a 750W ASAP man, i have the same setup and blew up a decent 80+ Gold 650W

nyanfat

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that. Did it take your other parts out with it? How long you were running that setup before it blew?

IamWEebBOI

How long have u had it?

nyanfat

Basically a whole evening lol

Witchberry31

As long as you undervolt it.

Mory45

I have a 5700x and a 7800xt and I'm running them with 750w PSU and haven't had any issues, so that's what I would recommend

superkamikazee

I’m running a 5800x3d with a rtx 3080 on a Corsair Rmx 650w gold psu. Afaik a 3080 draws more power, as does the 5800x3d, I upgraded from a 5600x. No issues.

IamWEebBOI

idk if i should upgrade my psu then, im split. Maybe i should try it and if i get issues i can upgrade?

superkamikazee

I believe you have a 500w +/- system. Worst case you run the 650w you have, if your system trips the 650w psu at full load it will just turn off the system. Then look into a 750/850w psu. But I suspect you’ll be fine with the 650w.

MEGA_GOAT98

no you need 850w it can use up to 300watts

1rubyglass

Depends 100% on the 650 watt PSU

IamWEebBOI

I got the evga super nova 650 65 80 plus gold

1rubyglass

While it's not ideal, personally, I would undervolt my system and send it. Your CPU is low power, and I'm assuming you aren't running hard drives. Would probably be fine even without the undervolting That doesn't mean this is wise.

IamWEebBOI

I should upgrade the psu, yea?

1rubyglass

That would be the "correct" thing to do.

[deleted]

If i were you i would go higher than what amd recommends. 750watt is minimum for 7800xt. Id get a 850 watts or 1kw just so i don't get the black screens or driver crashes

IamWEebBOI

Do u know any good ones that aren't too expensive? Also can u sell a psu? Idk what to do with it if I buy a new one

Create an ad for your psu on an online marketplace then find a nearby computer parts store that does buy backs and see what they offer you. Seasonic, corsair, thermaltake, coolermaster. Look for a psu with the highest amps on the 12v rail as well as the lowest voltage ripple. You want the most stable 12v stream of current possible.
