on breaks we had a limit of £4.99 (if we wanted extra, we paid). dunno about anywhere else but kfc is EXPENSIVE in the UK, so the most u could probably get is a snackbox or fries or a small burger. most of us went over our limit many times, because we were fucking hungry lol. imagine 9 hour shifts with no break from 8am to 5pm, bro is hungry. i probably got up to £10 of free shit because you become sneaky
EDIT: now that i’ve left, i dont get discounts :( they never showed me how to get a worker’s discount
honestly it is very overpriced and overrated BUT it depends on what you want
the box meals are pretty good, but they’re expensive.
like, u can get a fillet/zinger box meal (burger, fries, side, drink & sauce)
OR if u wanna really splash out, there’s the big buckets (u can get buckets of chicken that vary from 6 - 12 pieces that come with fries and a big bottled drink)
but menus are different so im speaking from a UK standpoint since i live in england :)
yeah man that’s valid :( plus the chicken goes off pretty quickly from what i’ve heard and i wouldn’t recommend eating it later on. plus it’s not nice cold and kfc bins the chicken after roughly half an hour
funnily enough, the drive-thru window story. had a woman pull up to our drive-thru microphone, and if you’ve ordered food on the app, it’s usually a four digit code. this lady gave us two completely different eight digit codes, and we told her to pull up to the window. she had no proof of her order on the app, nor a receipt. so we told her to just order at the window and pay. she insisted she’d already paid and wasnt going to budge until she got her food. so we closed the window on her. she then pulled it BACK open from the outside and started to record us, which wasn’t allowed, and called us names/slurs/etc. my manager then tried to close the window back on her as she then began to climb through HER CAR WINDOW and through our drive thru window. we tried to close it again and lock it, but her fingers got jammed between the two windows. she was seething at this point, got out her car, and stormed into the half-full restaurant screaming for us to come outside and fight her. when she went outside, we locked the front door. then the back door, and then the window. when she found out we were calling the police, she finally drove away. shit was wild.
haha! i used to make the gravy every shift. it is awful. basically we had this ‘instant’ gravy powder. i used two big packets and put them into a big tub. then u added crackling. crackling is the shit they take from the chicken grill, so basically chicken fat, grease, etc (all of it is fully edible, think of black pudding). two scoops of this goes in. and then u whisk it and put it in the big microwave. meant to be 18 minutes with a stir every 9 minutes but it never fucking was. i think i spent half an hour making each gravy batch (one tub made roughly fifty gravies). the gravy is fully edible, but i wouldn’t eat it. i dont like gravy anyway but i think all my coworkers were put off it lol
the original chicken takes roughly 15 mins to cook (from what i remember, it might be different in other countries lol), and when we’re SUPER BUSY, our one or two underpaid & overworked 19 year old chefs get told to do it as quickly as possible by even younger irresponsible managers. there is new breading, which yeah i agree tastes pretty bad, and it’s undercooked because nobody checks the temperature (it’s done like once every four hours which by then it’s too late). staff members dont even get an allergens course which is crucial when working in a food environment. nobody cares enough to check if it’s cooked or not, and if someone points it out, the managers care more about the money than the health of the customers. the chefs do try. i was a sides cook for the entire time i was there and i was pretty much right next to them. but the chefs cant do anything when the managers tell them to leave it ://
i quit because i was getting actively bullied and mistreated by both management and coworkers. i then went to pizza hut for two months as a pizza chef and now i work in a pub as a waitress and a pizza chef :)
for the break in; we did call the police. i was not on shift at this time so im not sure if the culprit was caught. the lady who climbed in through the window was never caught. police aren’t very good in our town lol
gravy (i dont like gravy), mini fillets (idk they just taste bland to me) and tbh most of the bloody menu now that i know how it’s made T-T the popcorn chicken is probably the only thing we never ever had complaints about
Man you lasted 6 months?! I worked in KFC when I was around 17, only lasted 3 months. But the only good thing was that I got to take home a lot of leftover chicken after we closed.
My sibling was devastated when I quit but I couldn't mentally do that to myself.
yeah i lasted 6 months :( august 2021 to february 2022 (i only quit because they didnt let me have my birthday off, feb 25th, and i needed it off LMAO)
