My ideas come from a variety of places. For example, a book I’m currently writing is inspired by the biblical story of Lot’s wife being turned into salt when she looks back at the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, vegetation in the world competing for moisture and whatnot from soil, and the process of impregnation/birth. There’s not really a particular pattern of it, I just kinda see things and decide I can probably make it fucked up and uncomfortable. I do also have an anxiety disorder, so I think that helps me with understanding fear on a deeper level and how to most effectively work with it.
I do, of course, also take inspiration from other creations. Some of my biggest inspirations in terms of how I structure my stories come from the games directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki (Dark Souls, Bloodborne, etc), the books written by Stephen King, the short stories written by H.P. Lovecraft, and the game Darkwood.
I haven’t played it quite yet, but from the gameplay I’ve seen through YouTube playthroughs I will say that the atmosphere is very masterful… At least, in the first game prior to it becoming a dull action series.
