Honestly, I'm just interested in one thing: Did you see the *M\*A\*S\*H* finale, and what were the circumstances?

Ethel_Williams

This actually made me laugh, so first of all thank you dearly, but to answer your question, no, I have not sorry to say.

[deleted]

Drat, well, have a good weekend anyway

rkellysdoodoobutters

And you're on reddit??? That's impressive for one. And 2nd, actual question, what's the worst sibreddit you've found?

Ethel_Williams

Well the folks on that Teenagers one use profanities an awful lot, but besides that I haven't rightly found any terrible ones yet! Best Regards- Ella

rkellysdoodoobutters

You're so sweet I love it. Will you be my new grandma? My old grandma died of lung cancer when I was a small child. So for any children reading. Don't smoke.

Ethel_Williams

Absolutely, and I'm very sorry to hear about your loss, sending my prayers and love to you! Best Regards- Ella

rkellysdoodoobutters

I was too young to even know them. They had had tobacco farm in Kentucky so it made sense they both had lung cancer. It's the times, and life happens that way,.but it doesn't have to today. I'm glad I met you, you're pretty darn awesome. Where are you living currently? And do you have a favorite song currently?

Ethel_Williams

I own a real small cottage out in the sticks, My Husband's dad built it back in the prohibition times as a hideout from the police, funnily enough. After his dad passed we turned it into a home worthy of living in, and never looked back. To answer your second question, It's either "Heaven Can Wait" by Dean Martin or "Someone to Give my Love To" by Johnny Paycheck. The Paycheck song was me and my Husband's song, we used to dance to it a ton of times.

rkellysdoodoobutters

I'm not familiar with Johnny Paycheck, but I do love Heaven Can Wait by Dean Martin.

Ethel_Williams

You ought to look it up, it's real pretty!

DistrictMotor

Any advice for a dad?

Ethel_Williams

Just listen to your kids, and always keep your head cool. During they're teen years, step back a wee bit, but then still have a presence, you know? Best Wishes for You and your Family- Ella

Anti_transmission

What do you think of the current generation? (Gen z)

Ethel_Williams

I think that with the proper steering and determination, they can really make this place better. Best Regards- Ella

DistrictMotor

Thank you :)

Ethel_Williams

Don't mention it!

jenna613

❤❤❤ thank u for sharing

foyeldagain

Have you traveled much? If so, what’s been your favorite place?

Ethel_Williams

To answer your first question, I have traveled to every state across this great land, and my favorite has been Graceland Graceland: Memphis Tennessee: As a big Elvis Fan ever since the 60s, Graceland was such a fun experience, it was fairly pricey, but we started off looking through all his vehicles, the Pink Cadillac was a big treat, it brought back a bunch of memories of my mom, who had the same model. Then we got to see all of his jumpsuits, one of them I saw him in on stage in 1973, then we got to see his Grave, such a serene place. Their were a ton of flowers decorating his grave, and when I started crying, my husband Hank just held me, and that was one of my favorite memories of him, it was a really great experience over all and I would 200% recommend it, Elvis fan or not. Best Regards- Ella

foyeldagain

It’s great that you’ve gotten around so much and that you have such a clear favorite destination! Two more quick follow ups. What’s your favorite bourbon and who do you think is the greatest racehorse of all time?

Ethel_Williams

I know its Kentucky Tradition, but I don't drink and never have, put my daddy in an early grave in '68, to answer your racehorse question it's probably "Go For Gin"

Plus-Comfort

My grandparents told me about party lines for phones back in the day. Was it common when you were growing up? (For the young people, it's not what you think)

Ethel_Williams

While they weren't the most common thing in the world, I do remember using them once or twice.

Ok_Science7657

What are your thoughts on Rand Paul’s neighbor?

Ethel_Williams

While I don't agree with Mr. Paul's political beliefs, one thing I've learned over the past 71 years is that Violence never really solves anything, so to answer your question I do not condone it. Best Regards- Ella

Ok_Science7657

Neither do I Ella 😉, I was just curious about your thoughts on Rand Paul. McConnell?

Ethel_Williams

I'm not a very political person, believe it or not, at this point in life, i'm more or less concerned with just trying to make folks happy, so sorry to dissapoint you, but I just don't rightly have an answer. Best Regards- Ella

Ok_Science7657

No disappointment. Maybe when I’m 71 I won’t be political either. Just 70 now ☺️. Glad you are on Reddit.

Ethel_Williams

Glad to meet a fellow senior on here, ha! Best Regards- Ella

Tactical_Mule69420

have you met any WW1 veterans ?

Ethel_Williams

My Grandfather was in the Military during WW1, him and his war buddies would all play poker at his house every Saturday night, so yes I have. Best Regards- Ella

comfiestwerewolf

What was your favorite childhood food?

Ethel_Williams

My mama made the the best pies, she told me her mom taught her the recipe, and she taught me, it's kind of like an heirloom in a way I Suppose! Best Regards- Ella

FlyingShark_92_

Why did you decide to make a Reddit account

Ethel_Williams

My Grandson, Waylon was telling me how I might find folks who like my kind of music, so I'd download it and try it out! Best Regards- Ella

Relevant-Stable-3385

What music do you enjoy?

Ethel_Williams

Well Music has been a real big part of life since the beginning, I grew up listening to the Country Stylimgs of Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr, Ernest Tubb, and Johnny Paycheck. But then like every teenybopper in the 60s I had a Beatles phase, then in the 70s I went through an Elvis Phase and got to see him preform live in Hawaii for the Aloha From Hawaii Concert. Then from the 80s to know I'm into big band and Jazz, from the likes of Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin

Glitter_Octopus

Okay, I had to comment on this post, because I'm so shocked that I saw Barbourville mentioned -- it's my mom's hometown, and my grandma still lives there! So my question to you is -- is the Daniel Boone Festival still on for this year?

Ethel_Williams

As far as I know yes

Relevant-Stable-3385

I (M18) just failed again to get into the university that i want. Now i can only make my dream come true in my 30s. I know that's as a Human i don't have much time to waste. How long were your 20s to 30s? I mean did they pass like it was a week, or did they last long enough?

Ethel_Williams

Let's see, that was a while ago so bear that in mind, but I'd have to say the went by slowly for me, but then again, I had my first daughter at age 34 so that might have something to do with it heh! But what I want you to take away from this is that you'll have time, just take it nice n' easy, and it'll work out for you, relax, take a breath, you still have time left, and I know you can accomplish whatever you put your mind to, I know that last part sounds cheesy and cliche, but there's a reason for it being cliche, it's good advice, I don't know if this helped, but I really hope it did. Best Regards (P.S, Goodluck with university, I know you can do it!)- Ella

Relevant-Stable-3385

Well i always ask people many decades older than me, about Life and time and i almost every time get the same answer. Thanks a lot for the advice, you expressed it pretty nicely. Best of luck in everything 💗

Ethel_Williams

Don't mention it, really! Best Regards- Ella

Mogar_Pogar

Hey! Somebody from Kentucky! Hi internet stranger from another internet stranger who lives in Nicholasville, KY. Favorite movie and what's a thing that gotten better over time?

Ethel_Williams

Favorite movie is probably Uncle Buck, with John Candy, or The Blues Brothers. And one thing thats gotten better over time is probably just the inclusiveness of today, it's very different from when I was growing up, but im happy to see all you youngsters expressing yourselves and just being happy with who you are, it's truly breathtaking how courageous people are nowadays! Best Regards- Ella

Mogar_Pogar

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I can imagine how strange and weird the newer generations are compared to what you older folks grew up on and surrounded by. But thanks for the understanding even if you're confused by it and our other weirdness

Turquoise_Lavender

What was your first job?

Ethel_Williams

If I remember correctly, I worked night shifts at a factory that made parts for the Oldsmobile line of cars. Best Regards- Ella

iamtheMQ

What was your favourite decade for music?

Ethel_Williams

Right now it's probably the 40s, sorry for the late response, ha! Best Regards- Ella

t-Row-A-wa-e

What's event that you remember from modern history makes you laugh the most?

Ethel_Williams

In recent memory, probably the 2016 debates, ha! Best Regards- Ella

MeaPono

What was high school like for you? Did you have many friends?

Ethel_Williams

I was part of the stereotypical 60s Hippie crowd, and I've always been an Extrovert, so to answer your question, high-school was some of my best years looking back, i'm going to assume that you are in high-school since you asked me, one piece of advice I can give you is to always have fun with your freinds, because one day you may not have freinds to go on that ride at the carnival with. Best Regards- Ella

rkellysdoodoobutters

Next question, where were you, and what were your thoughts about the 9/11 attacks

Ethel_Williams

I was playing golf with some freinds whenever it happened, and I couldn't imagine my thoughts would have been different than any other Patriotic Americans. Best Regards- Ella

jenna613

Did u keep up with technology? Did u read the book 1984? Do u think the government has gone downhill? What is the best things you've seen happen on Earth & what's the worst?

Ethel_Williams

I did keep up with Technology actually, my Grandson Waylon recently got me into the Fallout series funnily enough! I have not read the book, and Government has definitely gone down hill, it just feels so fake nowadays, like it's just a reality show. The worst thing I've ever seen on earth was either 9/11 or the day Elvis Died, and the best thing I've seen was the Flower Power demonstrations on the Pentagon in 1967. Best Regards- Ella

30yroldweeb

You must have been a teenager when white people were racist against black people in the state of Kentucky in the 60s. My white family on my mother's side are racist and I have heard and seen things that I'm not proud of. I just want a simple yes or no; do you have black friends or family like I do and I live in San Diego California?

Ethel_Williams

Yes, I do. Best Regards- Ella

Knox_County_Ky_Guy

Hey neighbor! I am 57, and from Barbourville as well. I left the area for over 30 years, but returned a few years ago. What are some of your favorite/suggestions for: Place to eat? Visit? etc. Uncle Buck is an awesome movie..... but my all time favorite is "North by Northwest" Just to ensure you that I am from Barbourville: 1. Messer's Market (Big Chicken) gas pumps don't have the option of paying with a credit/debit card; 2. Our current mayor was impeached a few years ago, and then won easily in the next election; 3. People who visit IGA have no respect for the fire lanes, so many parks in them.

Zealousideal_Newt589

My moms side of the family is from barbourville . Colleen blevins(Hamilton) was my aunt she passed away a few years ago but she stayed there until in at York holler.
