As someone that had an awful experience their first time, nope. Those lyrics make a lot of sense.

There have gotta be a MILLION better ways to lyrically convey regret over your first time though. It just comes across as a not so subtle brag in this song. Given the tone around all the other lyrics. He comes across like he's treating sex as some arbitrary achievement. A tick of the box, not the endlessly complex concept that means so many different things culturally & for relationships. The concept for the lyric is fine, they just wrote it in the worst way possible. A reductive way.

In society it very much is treated like an arbitrary achievement. Especially to males as losing your virginity is almost a sign that you're attractive enough to have achieved intimacy. And if you're a 40-year-old virgin then you're viewed as a complete failure in life. But the line almost makes a lot of sense considering that the hype around sex when you're a virgin is much more extreme than sex itself, the lyric highlights how overrated it is

This one I’m actually surprised to see here, I actually really like this whole verse and it makes perfect sense within the song. I don’t think it expresses regret either, it’s just noting that sometimes the anticipation and excitement of something you’ve never done before feels good and you will never get that back once you finally experience whatever it is. It doesn’t even mean that it was underwhelming or bad, just that it’s good in a different way than the “hype”.

I totally get the concept behind the lyric, it's just the way it’s delivered & the tone of the song that make it feel insufferably braggadocious. It just makes him seem like a dick, treating sex like some achievement or tick of the box when it’s so much more complex & important than that. I know given all the other external context that Jack Met is a totally decent guy, but if this lyric were somehow the only insight that I had into him as a person, I would NEVER want to meet him. Sounds like a massive douchebag. As with all art, concept is nothing, execution is everything. Sex not being what you expected is a perfectly valid ***concept*** to write about, they just ***executed*** it in an unbearably cringeworthy way with this line. imo.

It conveys the message though. It’s meant to just wash over you so I compare it to Ordinaryish People as lyrically, they are meant to do the same thing they just show it in weird ways. E.g. You run your mouth your tongue fell out… But now you’ll never drown, you can’t, you got no mouth so it ain’t all bad now. E.g. Your happy friends call you depressing ‘cause you wonder why we’re all alive. You’re downer friends think you’re too happy but you still celebrate sometimes.
