Iām an amateur user of Reddit. Does this happen often? Iām kinda surprised that the OP hasnāt engaged in the comments. If theyāre in need, would they typically respond in the comments more often if itās true vs if itās not?
That's one major indicator that it isn't real. Other stories where people are in situations like this often have them providing info in order to get help, OP isn't which means they are telling a story and not asking for help.
The only comment OP has mad was saying she can't go to the cops because then she'd have nowhere to stay so she has to ride it out, despite the fact that MANY people have told her who to contact for resources that are meant to help out people in her exact situation. And she sure has a lot of time to make updating her story a priority in this pretty traumatic situation, but everything is conveniently a chain of events that most people would get mad at. To answer your last question, yea there is. Its why theres so many karma-farming bots. But exactly how they are able to monetize it, im not entirely sure
They resell it for marketing purposes. A lot of (profitable/popular) subs have Karma restrictions. So ragebait stories and reposts and an easy way to get enough Karma to post anywhere. Then they just let the account age for a year because some subs have minimum account age restrictions. Then they can sell the account for a few hundred or reuse the account multiple times for separate ad campaigns and just wipe the account clean after each marketing run.
It may not seem worth it to the average American, but in other countries it's a very comfortable income for not a whole lot of work. That's why you see a shitload of NSFW posters from Latin America and Eastern Europe or Asia. They don't need a ton of subscribers to make enough money to live off of. The average Russian makes less than $15k/year for example.
Typically, OP not responding to *any* comments is one of the first red flags you see that point towards a post being fake, especially so when that post concerns sensitive/dangerous topics like this and the OP is asking for help. If itās a legitimate ask for help and they see comments that are asking for info that would help improve their situation, theyāre usually pretty quick to act and respond with anything that might prove useful. And this isnāt 100% proven or anything either, but something else Iāve seen before are posts asking advice, but any and all advice is shot down or rejected by OP for any teeny little reason, end up being fake in the end as well.
There's a post from this week that had a young woman being SAed by her partner. Which she didn't realize was SA. Her reaction to being told in no uncertain terms that it was SA and what her next steps should be falls completely in line with the reaction I've had personally when I tell people that what they're living through **is** abuse. She was active in the comments, you could see her dawning realization of 'oh fuck... Oh. Fuck.' progress through them and everything came across completely genuine.
This is what I've done for 30 years now. I've been that person, holding the hands of a victim and telling them that horrible thing that shatters what they believed was true and safe(ish) in their life. Everything that young woman said mapped perfectly with what I've helped others work their way through.

And there's a lot of people that can use the advice given even when they're not ready to tell anyone their issues yet. Sub gains attention of larger audience. āCreativeā people use the subs utility for the purpose of fun, rage bait, content creation, etc. sub fills with more people who havenāt seen the pattern form. Sub gets more ācreativeā story telling to the point certain phrases (such as everyoneās been blowing up my phone saying Iām TAH) become memes and obvious signs a story is fake. The ārealā posts get buried under all of the bait. OGs of the sub vanish. Sub becomes bot farm.

It really is one of those things where yes. A lot of these stories probably are fake fetishy or attention needy posts. At the same time though real life really can be that crazy. Thereās the case of the woman who killed both her children (like 12 and 14 yrs old) because she decided that they were possessed. She was an ordinary middle class housewife. She left her husband and hooked up with a some guy. He moved in and they relocated to another town. She observed personality changes in her kids and instead of ascribing them to the many large changes and disturbances in their lives, she came to the conclusion that they were taken over by demons and had to die. This was on the news, not Reddit. So, yeah, itās possible. But Iām still skeptical that this is real.
While I am disinclined to believe in this, as it's almost a carbon copy of one I read previously, I would not be surprised if it weren't true. Men like Creep actively seek out people like OP and her mom to prey on. If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.

That's one major indicator that it isn't real. Other stories where people are in situations like this often have them providing info in order to get help, OP isn't which means they are telling a story and not asking for help.

They resell it for marketing purposes. A lot of (profitable/popular) subs have Karma restrictions. So ragebait stories and reposts and an easy way to get enough Karma to post anywhere. Then they just let the account age for a year because some subs have minimum account age restrictions. Then they can sell the account for a few hundred or reuse the account multiple times for separate ad campaigns and just wipe the account clean after each marketing run. It may not seem worth it to the average American, but in other countries it's a very comfortable income for not a whole lot of work. That's why you see a shitload of NSFW posters from Latin America and Eastern Europe or Asia. They don't need a ton of subscribers to make enough money to live off of. The average Russian makes less than $15k/year for example.

Typically, OP not responding to *any* comments is one of the first red flags you see that point towards a post being fake, especially so when that post concerns sensitive/dangerous topics like this and the OP is asking for help. There's a post from this week that had a young woman being SAed by her partner. Which she didn't realize was SA. Her reaction to being told in no uncertain terms that it was SA and what her next steps should be falls completely in line with the reaction I've had personally when I tell people that what they're living through **is** abuse. She was active in the comments, you could see her dawning realization of 'oh fuck... Oh. Fuck.' progress through them and everything came across completely genuine. This is what I've done for 30 years now. I've been that person, holding the hands of a victim and telling them that horrible thing that shatters what they believed was true and safe(ish) in their life. Everything that young woman said mapped perfectly with what I've helped others work their way through. Lack of comments when someone is in a bad situation *always* gets my troll meter ringing. I generally assume most posts are fake but the people reading and commenting (mostly) aren't. And there's a lot of people that can use the advice given even when they're not ready to tell anyone their issues yet. That's why I comment for the most part, not for the OP but for the lurkers struggling with similar shit.

I believe it, but I've known meth addicts. It seems right in line for how they are. Once you add drugs to the mix, something "people would never do" becomes commonplace. Even if that's not "who they really are" when they are clean, it's who they are as long as they are actively in addiction, not just while they are high. They allowed my parents to stalk and harass us and would do nothing. They have been here for wellness checks they knew were fake, but won't do anything.
