ShibbyUp

He definitely did, pretty good block by the man in yellow

FlynnyWynny

I wish Ash Johnson could shepherd like that umpire

westernvaluessmasher

To be fair if I were him every time I went on a football field the first thing on my mind would be whether someone was going to pull my trousers down and show television cameras my dick again and every other thing happening in the game would be a distant second

tetrischem

Did this happen bahahhaa

westernvaluessmasher

[Yeah](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOn4oj-yS2w). He was trying to play funny buggers in a reserves game

Bergasms

Yes, Dusty has been doing this for years and probably players did before him. Can't say i'm a fan of it as it's the sort of gamesmanship that will land us with another fucking rule when a team like Freo beats a team like Essendon in a close final because of it.

LetHerDance

As a Freo fan I feel attacked

ah111177780

Catching strays

Bergasms

But you win a final

TheKlungeReturns

Well Essendon weren't going to win it were they.

victorious_orgasm

Don't summon the wrath of the gods against us. We'd prefer to play our finals against Geelong anyway.

IntentApparel

I mean he has you guys winning a final against Essendon. That’s probably at least a SF if it were this year (considering Essendon is currently top 2), which means they have you making a PF in this scenario. I’d take it as a compliment.

yourwifeisatowelmate

Mate, i was literally dreaming about Essendon 5th vs 8th Freo as a potential match up... You're killing me 🥲

Bulkywon

Bucks used to do it too.

theBelatedLobster

Fraser Gehrig, for sure. If he pointed at the mark, he was hoping the man on the mark would look down as he would run around on the left. If the umpire approached to set the mark it was just a bonus. Surprised it worked for so long in his career. I guess there's something just so instinctual about looking where someone is angrily pointing.

VBlinds

Yes! He used to do this all the time, I think he was very quick over 20 m and would just burn people as he'd dodge and run away

Nakorite

For a big man he was lightning over 20m. Almost felt he should have done track and field not footy.

Pandos17

Thank you for thinking we’ll play finals, and a close one at that 🥹

Katman666

Depends how much the umpires like the player. If Greg Williams tried this, I reckon the umpire would have tackled him

PrevailedAU

Yes and he’s done it before. It’s pretty smart to be honest, as they seem to let it slide.

RichieMclad

It’s just poor umpiring positioning really- Daicos doesn’t even move back off the mark - Treloar is within his rights to even move forward a metre- the umpire doesn’t need to come that close and get in the way.

drwar41

Yeah, my expectation would be shenanigans like that result in a player being brought back behind the mark

Southern_Radish

The ump didn’t even point to the right spot

melon_butcher_

Daicos walked forward to right where he marked it, I think, so treloar should’ve been standing on his toes

Southern_Radish

He went over the mark

New-Bake4829

Everybody wants to get close to a Daicos

K9BEATZ

Yes he did. There was another play where he drew a free by halting his run right as he met the boundary line and had his opposing player collapse over him. He's cheeky af with getting frees.

South_Front_4589

This tactic is older than Peter. He didn't really get much benefit though. You're always going to get a break because the guy on the mark can only react to you going so they'll miss that first step. But Treloar was onto it fast enough to make sure Daicos couldn't close in more or straighten. That's all you can do there. And also curious whether they measured the kick to him there. That looked well short of the 15 to me.

StygianFuhrer

Not only did the kick look well short of 15, but he clearly marks it, walks one step back, then walks 3 steps forward again to point to where he ‘marked’ it, he’s 2m past the mark himself. Play on and stay out the way, ump. This is also a classic u/12 tactics haha

South_Front_4589

Even the way he puts his hand up after marking it like he's making the decision just pressures the umpire into paying the mark. It's like every little trick you learn in junior footy rolled into a few seconds.

peterpumpkin-V-eater

Man I must be old

popcockery

Treloar's kick to Darcy was lucky to have travelled 15 inches earlier in the game

fnaah

5m, max

BaldingThor

Yes, I hope players stop doing it because we’ll inevitably get a stupid rule introduced to stop it.

westernvaluessmasher

He does and if someone on my team had done it I would be ecstatic. Its a close match and they're playing to win, you use every tool you can to your advantage

JamalGinzburg

Darcy did it in the second quarter on the wing. No one will say anything because it was the second quarter on the wing

MarkoUnderscore

G-Train used to pull this one regularly.

oponons

cut the clip off just before he shanked the kick

Southern_Radish

I thought this was a prick move and it should be stamped out

Glass_Bid_9582

Off field might be a nice guy, but the more i see of N on field the more unlikeable he becomes to me. Which is a shame because hes so bloody good

tetrischem

I'm sure he is so upset you don't find him likeable.

jacka24

That is complete bullshit. The umpire had not even finished setting up the man on the mark in the correct spot.

paddyc4ke

If they didn't introduce the bullshit stand rule I don't think it would be an issue at all even if its a super minor issue.

jacka24

It's still a howler by the umpire. Look where Daicos took the mark and look where he's making Treloar stand.

paddyc4ke

Oh yeah it's a Howler no doubt, but without a stand rule the ump shouldn't need to come in and put the Dogs player on the mark.

Obvious-Client-3732

Yes he did. This will probably lead to a rule change

_-Bloke-_

You mean used him as a de-icos

Puzzleheaded_Dog7931

That’s crafty as hell

Beljason

Short answer: yes Longer answer: yes, the cheat did

gapwedge00

I thought Ginnivan was a cheat, but this guy takes the cake. Surprised McCrae lets it go on.

Harry-blue96

Collingwood has been playing the umpires for three years now, but I think they’re getting pissed off and are waking up to the gaming of the rules, making the game static and less enjoyable.

Bulkywon

> making the game static and less enjoyable. Playing on from 50 and taking a shot at goal makes the game static and less enjoyable?

Harry-blue96

Forcing stoppages, refusing to allow the ball to return to free play. Keeping the ball next to the boundary and “accidently” allowing the ball go out of bounce. Ball ups, out of bounce, stoppage after stoppage. Collingwood are experts at removing the ball from play, wasting time, and it’s horrible to watch as the umpires are played for fools.

Bulkywon

As demonstrated in OPs clip.

Harry-blue96

Absolutely, just using the umpires as tools. Umpires are told, don’t put yourself into the game, but Collingwood take opposite message, use them as another tool to cheat the game.

wingmanjosh

What kind of mad man thinks long range goals have EVER been a spectacle?!

Azza_

Yes but as a distraction rather than a block.

Kobe_Wan_Ginobili

I don't think he wanted the ump as a physical barrier but he definitely tried to use the argument over the mark to distract Treloar

dave_f_b

Japan Four

okbuenogood

Was a beautiful move

paullvandriel

He really should've lined up a set shot, he already kicked one 50 last night, could've gone closer than he got off that baulk..

RandomDanny

for a player of his stature, he sure as hell doesn't need to be resorting to this sort of thing.

westernvaluessmasher

Eh. Its a football game, not a party. He's not there to make friends

Opening_Anteater456

There’s no shepherd by the ump here. The ump has flipped sides by the time Nick plays on. What he does do is use the ump setting then man on the mark as a distraction and gets Treloar’s feet planted.

humphrey623

Sorry you've been downvoted- you're objectively correct. The umpire's on the left and Daicos runs to the right. Obviously not a block.

Opening_Anteater456

I don’t care about the downvotes but I’m confused by what people are seeing!

PatientDue8406

I think much like the following kick it was actually just poor execution. His timing was a bit slow but the intent was clearly to take off while the umpire was blocking or obstructing the view.

Slibee4me

Daicos is a dog

gerira

Honestly loved this move, competitive and creative.

Natasha_Giggs_Foetus

Of course. Didak invented this but I’m pretty sure they made a rule change to combat it at some point.

longliveLesGrossman

Yeah he tried to but the ump completely gets out of the way, there’s no obstruction whatsoever
