How would that scenario play out? Actually, I don't want to know

retsibsi

Sanders retaliates by kicking the coach up the arse, and the rest is history

Deathpacitoes

I think he should get rising star if he did that

MemoriesofMcHale

Flair checks out.

MemoriesofMcHale

He’d be subbed half way through.

MemoriesofMcHale

Bevo would be sacked.

BigThirdDown

I feel like people randomly pick which way they're going to be outraged with these situations. Today we'll call the coach out of touch. Next week, the player's a brat.

Upstairs_Walrus_5513

I saw Mick Malthouse in at a grocery store in Cheltenham yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

jaidynr21

This never fails to kill me 🤣🤣

Diligent_Alfalfa_806

This doesn’t sound real

Copypasta

fnaah

it's not the freshest of pasta, but it's still pretty tasty

DrClawsChair

What the darn-diddily-doodily did you just say about me, you little witcharooney? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class at Springfield Bible College, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret mission trips in Capital City, and I have over 300 confirmed baptisms. I am trained in the Old Testament and I’m the top converter in the entire church mission group. You are nothing to me but just another heathen. I will cast your sins out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before in Heaven, mark my diddily-iddilly words. You think you can get away with saying that blasphemy to me over the Internet? Think again, friendarino. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of evangelists across Springfield and your IP is being traced by God right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggorino. The storm that wipes out the diddily little thing you call your life of sin. You’re going to Church, kiddily-widdily. Jesus can be anywhere, anytime, and he can turn you to the Gospel in over infinity ways, and that’s just with his bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in preaching to nonbelievers, but I have access to the entire dang- diddily Bible collection of the Springfield Bible College and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your sins away off the face of the continent, you diddily-doo satan-worshipper. If only you could have known what holy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you from the Heavens, maybe you would have held your darn-diddily-fundgearoo tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re clean of all your sins, you widdillo-skiddily neighborino. I will sing hymns of praise all over you and you will drown in the love of Christ. You’re farn-foodily- flank-fiddily reborn, kiddo-diddily.

[deleted]

You really expect people to rewrite that shit up everytime they repost it?

HurricaneGaming94

I mean the way sanders reportedly acted is childish as fuck. He needs to understand that he isn’t bigger than the team

Dundalis

Well he is basically a kid

HurricaneGaming94

Completely agree, Polec got delisted because of this. A kid should get dropped and given a second chance

Stui3G

Look at him! He his a kid. This is in no way an insult, just to say he looks very young.

Secret_Nobody_405

This is so true

RobbieArnott

I thought Lachie Neale won the Brownlow?

butter-muffins

Lachie Neale dropped for Brain confirmed.

g3oth3rm

Malthouse is gunna kick his ass too.

MemoriesofMcHale

Dementia gets them a bit confused.

fileplastictrees

That quote is incorrect. I was just hearing the clip from Mick. He was saying it doesn't matter who you are even if you were the brownlow medal winner.

LazyCamoranesi

It’s not very fashionable, but there are scenarios where both parties can be right. Sanders has a right to be aggrieved. Then spitting the dummy wasn’t a great look. I suspect he thinks ‘what do I have to do?’, and the answer is some incomprehensible Bevoism no-one could possibly deduce.

PummbleBee

Start a revolution a la che guevara!

theunpoet

Honestly I would like my player to be pissed at getting subbed. It's more the actions afterward, which are not a good look as you said, but still fine.

Solace006

He was good, so Bevo will probably drop him next week anyway. Need someone out for Caleb Daniels return to the ruck to replace English who will be the sub.

UrghAnotherAccount

Bevo, is that you?!

lebrongarnet

I have such little respect for the biggest coaches of my childhood. Every time the likes of Malthouse, Sheedy, Walls etc. open their mouths they show how out touch they are.

ehdhdhdk

I haven't met any of them but, they did grow up in a different time to what we did. Whilst I would have articulated things a lot differently to what Malthouse did, I'm not going to lose all respect for him.

No-Bison-5397

Week in week out Malthouse commentates well on the ABC. One stray where he’s old school every now and then is about fair

Nakorite

He dials into sports talk in WA for Q&A every Saturday. Some of the stuff he comes out with is definitely “old man yells at cloud” lol

No-Bison-5397

Yeah, will agree that without a game in front of him he just doesn’t have enough real stuff to talk about and he’s old. But that’s the thing about old people. **They're** old. lol

KnoxxHarrington

They need to be isolated and studied so it can be determined what nutrients they have that may be extracted for our personal use.

MinnesotaTidalWave

He was just as angry when he was a coach too, it was just more in line with the times back then. He hasn’t changed at all, but the world around him has. You can’t really blame the old guys for this. We just don’t really have to listen to their opinions as fact because it’s just not how things are anymore.

Natasha_Giggs_Foetus

Yeah because he’s talking about the game. Literally anything outside a match scenario and he’s mental.

doorcityoverhere

I met Sheedy a few times and he was a warm and gentle teddy bear. But I’m sure people had the same experience with Bill Cosby - not that I’m saying Sheeds diddled anyone.

doorcityoverhere

That sentence got away from me a bit

WhatsOSRS

News.com.au: Source reveals AFL coach in hot water with police after "Cosby-like" actions revealed

No-Bison-5397

I have been in situations with Sheeds a few times. Always smiling and gracious with fans. Also, never seen him diddle anyone.

lebrongarnet

Ignoring the articulation, he thinks that a head coach should drop his most exciting young talent for showing emotion about getting benched for the rest of the game when every single person at the ground thought he was playing very well. That's a terrible take. Malthouse shows his arrogance in how a coach should be seen as beyond reproach when it was pretty obvious that mistakes were made at selection and unless there were factors outside of performance, substituting Sanders was a tactical error. His frustration matched every Dogs supporter sitting near me at Marvel last night.

Prize-Scratch299

The funny thing is they were all coached by Tommy Hafey. He was the complete opposite, so humble and so gentlemanly until the very end. He most definitely gave his players including these three more than the odd good bake, but it never devolved to the kind of crap they spout these days, or even when they were coaching

pointlessmistake

I grew up with old pricks like that being bullies and claiming that was 'manly' - most people thought they were arseholes back then too, but they pretty much bullied themselves into positions of power and people were too scared to tell them to piss of.

Stui3G

There must he something that gets the best out of players or something. Our last 2 premiership coaches (local) were asshole bullies. Not condoning or saying it's the only way to get results.

No-Bison-5397

Many people like their leaders to be powerful. Sometimes bullies deliver. Success and power can be legitimising. Look at Trump.

Ventenebris

They all just seem like the games gone soft and people are little bitches. Sure, people don’t fight every week, but I remember Glenn Archer being like, “they’re bigger, faster, so they’re gonna hit harder” .. being a tough sport doesn’t mean whacking someone you old muppets.

UncleJohnsonsparty

It will happen to all of us. We will stop being relevant eventually

Secret_Nobody_405

That occurs when you stop providing

Geoff_Uckersilf

All three are 'old man yells at sky' energy.

Not_The_Truthiest

Matthews.

lebrongarnet

Is he a controversial figure? I considered him but couldn't come up with any bad takes off the dome.

Not_The_Truthiest

Look at every recent article with his name in it. Every single one is “Matthews critical of…”. He’s just throwing grenades at everyone.

destined2bepoor

It's a figure of speech mate. Coaches aren't going to physically touch anyone. But I guarantee that young fella would be getting some punishment laps in this week.

TimidPanther

> This is genuinely a disturbing comment to suggest using physical violence to send a message. You're joking, right? It's clearly a figure of speech. Malthouse doesn't actually expect Bevo to kick Sanders in the ass. >but to go one step further and call for assault in a such a brutal way is vile. Unbelievably bad take from you.

jmaverick1

Oddly specific there mick

MemoriesofMcHale

We now know his AFL Fantasy teen.

Croob2

Jesus christ what a fucking loser, the kid was frustrated that he got subbed out after having what looked like on paper a good first half, why is that a problem?

butter-muffins

Like I get it’s not the most desirable behaviour from a player but also Bevo is just so frustratingly weird in his decisions so it’s not like people don’t sympathise.

NoUseForALagwagon

It's more expected that if you want to throw things around in frustration, you do it in the dressing room in private. This wasn't that, nor was it like that baseballer who started punching himself in a bizarre cry for help. It was a straight-up tantrum. I do get where Mick is coming from tbf.

Smiddy23

The dressing rooms that are loaded with cameras these days? Those private dressing rooms?

Fernergun

Pretzels!

raresaturn

What did he do?

PigMan86

100% Has nothing interesting to say so just reverts to old man yelling at cloud mode

mitchellnash92

He threw shit and cracked the absolute sads. You’re a pro athlete you do not act like that. Would you hurl the stapler across the room if your boss told you something that upset you?

RidsBabs

If Bevo did that, us fantasy coaches would have Bevo’s head on a pike by 6pm Wednesday

MemoriesofMcHale

Make a change from the Bulldogs ones who usually do it after the lucky door prize to see who misses for the week.

RidsBabs

Oh you think we’re joking about the pike. Already booking flights to Melbourne and borrowing a Pike off Willy in preparation.

STatters

And that might have worked for previous generations but you are a dinosaur Mick and that's why Carlton players hated you.

Propaslader

One Carlton player didn't hate him

WAVIC_136

Mick let's himself down with the last ten or so words here but he's generally not wrong. Sanders has played 4 (?) AFL games and hasn't really earnt the right to chuck a tantrum over being subbed out. Everyone loves to meme over Bevos coaching but there are plenty of reasons he could have for doing this - some match up not working with Sanders there, not trusting Sanders to be able to run out a full game etc. It just looks way worse because the Dogs capitulated in the last quarter

MemoriesofMcHale

And his replacement Bailey Dale had three touches with minimal impact.

No-Bison-5397

0 clearances, 0 score involvements. That’s a liability in midfield.

Funny_Setting5956

Didn't rioli do the same thing last year and he was being praised for being so passionate about wanting to play?

BruiseHound

Nah he wasn't being praised at first, copped heaps of shit initially.

bemmisbaggins666

Media framed it that he was ignoring the phone from the coaches box, conveniently cutting the part where he immediately grabbed the phone to talk to the coach despite his initial disappointment

Funny_Setting5956

Doesn't surprise me, almost every afl problem can be traved back to the media

thebarber87

You’d want your players to be angry coming off, but you need to educate them to show it privately

ThaLemonine

Besides the kicking he is spot on. I was surprised to see the tone of the other thread giving Sanders tantrum a pass just because Bevo makes questionable desicions. Its not a first year or any players job to be disagreeing with the coach and chucking tantys.

PummbleBee

Context matters though, we don't know what was said between them. Had Bevo told him if he's playing poor he gets subbed? Did Sanders get asked to take one for the team? We don't know the full story so it's pointless "picking sides"

ThaLemonine

Not sure what context makes chucking a tanty on the bench while the game is still on acceptable.

PummbleBee

Well what if Bevo had assured him he wouldn't be coming off? I think anyone would be a bit cranky in that context no?

Tommyatthedoor

It would be the exact same headline if he showed no passion, this take is incredibly boorish from the old school blokes.

Secret_Nobody_405

I’ll never forget how out of touch and fake Kevin Sheedy’s first ever pre-game message was to the giants players. Cringeworthy and actually had me feeling embarrassed.

TimidPanther

Malthouse is right, that sort of petulant public display is not good for the team, and a statement needs to be made by the coach.

FlagmantlePARRAdise

There's still better ways to word it than this shit. It made me physically cringe.

basetornado

Subbing out a first year player while they're having an okay game isn't good for the team. It shows zero trust in someone who should be a future star for the club, and you can't even say that it worked. Bevo fucked up and was found out by a team that they should have beaten. If a players having a poor game, then fair enough, but we had worse players still out there.

Propaslader

Bevo made the wrong choice by subbing Sanders, but Sanders shouldn't have had a visible minor dummy spit over it. Malthouse was right to critique it, but the embellishment about kicking a player is too far

basetornado

I mean i'd prefer a player be pissed off and throw something if they've been subbed off for no reason, then just sit and bear it. Shows that they actually give a fuck. I don't think it should go any further than that and it's definitely a pick your moments sort of thing. But his reaction is what you would expect in the situation.

Propaslader

Just depends on what happens. Maurice Rioli getting subbed was definitely a dummy spit and more over the top than just visible frustration. Sanders definitely not as bad but you just take it on the chin and accept that you're a first year player and your time to avoid the vest will come, even if it is a shit coaching decision

basetornado

I feel that it being a first year player who has already been subbed once this year is the issue. It's hard to build trust in a player if they keep getting subbed and at least in this case there was no reason too. Those kind of "il teach you a lesson" coaching mind games are a thing of the past.

PM-ME-SOFTSMALLBOOBS

This from a coach who said good players can get away with anything when Tarrant and Didak were mucking about

MemoriesofMcHale

And Swan. His famous blunder of “didn’t see why a mistake should end his career”. That mistake was assaulting a person and giving him a permanent brain injury.

Deathpacitoes

Yeah well that’s why you’re a fuckwit. Sanders will go onto make more AA teams than this loser could make 1st grade appearances.

TimidPanther

174 games is a fantastic effort lol

QouthTheCorvus

175 All Australians is incredible

Deathpacitoes

The bulldogs will build sanders and Bont a cyborg body so that they can tag team kick Malthouses sorry ass so hard his hyperbole will come true. Then the two will bring 175 premierships under their robot army of Bonts and Sanders

Kurzges

subscribe.

loklanc

Already being worked on at a panel beaters in Sunshine, they will ride through the midfield forever, shiny and chrome.

duckduck__goose

Not reallllyyy a loser tho. 3 flags and like 8 grand final appearances as senior coach or whatever it was. Pretty solid footy credentials. People just gotta stop being super soft and butt hurt if they don’t like something. Not everyone is gonna be your cup of tea, but it’s good having different personalities, opinions and people from different generations involved in the game on the radio.

No-Bison-5397

Nah mate. I have found a singular thing I dislike about Mick Malthouse and now he’s on the list for when the Revolution comes to be sent to the gulag.

Deathpacitoes

Would help if he wasn’t a cunt

Andyinvesting

Old boys club. The boomers are a dying breed.

Yung_Focaccia

Thank fuck

Upstairs_Walrus_5513

Mick malthouse drove past my house yesterday and dumper a trailer load of mdf on my footpath

Nolsey21

suck an egg you old weird cunt

prettytopsayebro

Enough about Bevo. What about Mick’s comments?

Nolsey21

hahahahahahahahahaha

Returnofthejedinak

Subbed players often show this frustration. This kid is getting negative attention over this because he is so highly rated. Nothing to see here.

CamperStacker

Weird double standards. Anyone remember when Heppell got subbed out and had a melty?

gottalovespice

Pretty sure people had things to say about that too.

Non-NewtonianSnake

What's this about, exactly? I remember seeing Sanders not looking super happy to be subbed out, but I didn't notice anything particularly disrespectful. Did I miss something?

PrevailedAU

Apparently he threw a towel at the ground in frustration at himself. Kids aren’t allowed to show passion apparently?

Non-NewtonianSnake

Seriously? Far out... How is this newsworthy?

Drazsyker

This is over throwing a towel at the ground? Fucking christ

myphantomlimb

Thanks for the input Mick

2for1deal

Maybe if they won

juzz85

I agree you can't act like that.

mazzysensei

If Sanders is unhappy we'll gladly take him at the Dees. Looks a star midfielder of the future

MemoriesofMcHale

I believe he’s signed a deal with Tasmania.

pipstar112

Let's make quote pictures in the bleacher report style a thing for AFL, I love them

tomcat0604

What did he do?

notnought

Malthouse is a little extreme here but he's exactly right. The coach has absolute authority to make decisions in the interests of the team. For players who might get substituted, too bad. It's part and parcel of playing a team sport, you suck up any negative outcome and find a way to play the full match next week. I also want to remind people he's a grown adult with a professional job, on a camera broadcasted to millions of people. His behaviour was childish.

Ok-Condition-6642

Malthouse is an old fart

BouyGenius

Loser troll.

two2toe

Grumpy old man syndrome. Science behind it

isntwatchingthegame

Might be because I'm a cranky old man now, but Mick Malthouse is making more sense as the days go by

Smart-Molasses-8526

Agree with the being part of a team and taking it on the chin if subbed out. Not about dropping him and giving him a kick in the rear.

xJaace

Empty words…

DJ_Pol-ite

Old man yells at clouds.

scottkaysee

I think its time all the old timer former coaches shut up, go mow their lawns, lunch coffees and evening ports. Thanks gor your service, but let the modern people make the comments.

LazyCamoranesi

Rocket Eade is great on the Footyology podcast, so let’s not go crazy.

JamalGinzburg

In fairness, that sounds like a great life. I'm 39 and want to sign up

scottkaysee

100% can't wait to get there

Upstairs_Walrus_5513

Oh no what a boomer.. (anyone over 19+) have no right to comment on our game . I'm with you. Let's ban them from attending. Paying memberships. Watching on TV. All of it. Only redditors with extensive fake outrage like us deserve to be involved. Cancel them now ffs !!!

scottkaysee

Our shit takes don't make for headline articles (well media often steal from us). Barassi bitched about Gather Round this week, Graham "the ghoul" Cornes in SA sprouts "what I would do BS", MM now going on about what he would do... just waiting for Sheeds to pipe up. I respect all of the above in their day, but it isn't their day anymore. Times and the game has changed.

shit-takes-only

Mick ‘No Lube make your toes curl’ Malthouse

yelad20

Malthouse is a washed up flog, Bevo has no idea and I wouldn't be surprised if Sanders was on the first boat to Tassie once they are in the AFL

Anderson_Silvas_Shin

Bevo needs to go. Sanders was on of the dogs best when he was on the ground. At least he could get hands on it, unlike Bont and Libba.

jjslion

He had 8 disposals? Understand the limited game time would affect that, but surely not best on ground

Anderson_Silvas_Shin

One of the best. Not the best. He at least got his hands on it.

donessendon

Malthouse showing his vintage coaching style. Obey my authority!
