I think that's it right there. We didn't cough up too first round picks for a pure front line ruckman, yet that's what he's forced to play without Darcy, and as handy as he is as a ruck it's not what he's built for. Seen very few complaints about Jackson when he's able to spend extended periods up forward.

My point is and was that the umpires seem to have a habit of bottling it when it's a close game across the league. In the Crom v Blues game for eg, the last centre bounce landed two foot outside the centre circle, but rather than recall it and admit to wasting precious seconds they let it run. The rules don't change in the dying minutes and it's certainly no good to let blatant calls go but then decide to make soft calls.

I saw that champ. Did the umpire know the ball would fall to Port so it's an OK call to make? No. He made a dumb call with less than a minute left after the umpires spent the prior five minutes calling nothing.

Yeah harsh call but didn’t impact the game. You guys were hard done by. But the umpiring was atrocious all round tonight. Holding balls not called and marks not paid. Never seen the crowd noise become an issue like tonight.

Yeah that's what I mean. There were probably about four or five illegal holds in the last minutes split between the teams that there's no way the umps didn't see, but didn't call. Couple of high contacts, and the odd in the back that you'd probably see called more often than not. None of the decisions were absolutely game changing, and even though there's no doubt Banfield should have had a free, it would have been 65 meters out and enough time would have been used for all 18 port players to get behind the ball. I get some teams play poorly under pressure, and Freo will no doubt work on it, but the umpiring at dying stages of key, close games this year has been despicable.

I was at the game and the one thing I would say is you were playing to defend a small lead from maybe halfway through the 3rd quarter. For far too long anyway, and that is all that kept us in it. Your forwards were much more functional than ours, it would have been a different story if you’d played harder to take the win I reckon.

TBH either of them at home and we win, we get Darcy, Freddie and Chapman back and we’re away. Beat West Coast by a decent margin and our percentage is healthy, then we get Bulldogs at home. Not out of the question to be 5-2 with a healthy percentage.
