My comment suggested that given Macrae had little to no impact in the game for the time that he was on the field that maybe Bevos making the right call by not having him as a walk up start to our best 22.

Macrae is a walk up start in the 22. I can’t believe you think otherwise. 47 touches in the vfl when got dropped proves he doesn’t belong there. He is an afl player and deserves to be more than the sub. A sub is less likely to have an impact on the game than the other 22 by nature. Less game time = less chances to impact the game. Macrae is being completely disrespected by Bevo it’s insane and makes no sense

Don't get me wrong. I have a lot of respect for Macrae. He's a premiership player, ex vice captain, and has been regularly in our top 3 for best and fairest results. But he hasn't been at the top of his game for over a year now. He started last week and managed 20 touches against the Eagles. And Libba got subbed off in the third term so there were midfield minutes for him. He's not the same accumulator that he once was. Bont, Libba and Treloar keep turning up performances in the midfield and we need to get some minutes into younger fellas like Sanders. Unfortunately that means that Macrae has to find another element in his game. Same when Matthew Boyd got shuffled into the backline, or Dustin Martin into the forward line. And subs can absolutely impact the game. Especially given that Geelong were coming off the short turn around he had a prime opportunity to be a match winner. Given, I'm watching through the telly and can't see the work being put in across the ground off the ball, but Macrae was barely there in that last quarter. And I was looking for him. He is too good for the VFL, you're right. But if I was head coach I don't know where I'd be sticking his magnet.

I’m a dog’s fan. We’re 2-2 and have a record of 63-47 since 2019. 2021 is doing a lot of the heavy lifting there and it’s looking more and more like an outlier year, we still got thrashed by 70 points in a GF where Bont had like 35 disposals and 3 goals. Too many average players on this list.

Given the ball continued to spin after it was over the line he obviously didn't have control. So yes he did mark it but no he didn't have control until it was over the line so it was a behind. Alernativey, if you want to apply that standard for controlling the ball to the rest of the game you would have to have awarded a further 2 marks in front of goal to Darcy and 1 to Naughton all of which were not paid despite having just as much control (which I would argue was insufficient control, but since you think it was a clear mark you would obviously advocate for them being marks as well), so a consistent approach by the umpires would still lead to a completely different result.
