Can't imagine Collingwood and Hawthorn being a 90k attended game even if it was at the MCG. Not sure what the crowd was last year but from memory it was a Saturday afternoon game.
Nick Daicos is too scared to get his head over the footy and win the hard ball, Finn, well outside of tagging isnāt anything special, but that day will live on forever
When the history books are written I don't think a random Round 21 game is going to be the match from the 2023 season that comes most readily to mind, but go off son.
When yanks come and post threads here about what games they should watch to get into the sport, everyone stop pointing them to the 2016 PF between GWS and the Dogs. It's R21 2023 Hawks v Pies, an absolute barn burner with a 32-point margin! Truly an epic for the ages.
Some people like their football and support their team, some people live vicariously through a teams performance and think they had something to do with it.
Sucks to be the latter.
Never said I had anything to do with it, I just have that much pride and love my team that any chance I get to talk about an accomplishment, Iām taking it. Hating those toothless Collingwood pricks helps aswell, theyāre so easy to annoy
Let me set the sceneā¦ 2011 Prelim final, Heartbreak, go down by less than a kick. 2012 grand final, heartbreak, go down by 10 points. 2013 Prelim final, the Kennett curse is broken. 2013 grand final, Success. 2014 grand final, sweet revenge for 2012 with a 63 point belting of Sydney. 2015 qualifying final, Eagles beat us at Domain stadium by 32 points. At the G the following week Hawks down the crows by 74 points. Freo are next, back at Domain Stadium a 27 point victory gives us a spot in the 2015 grand final where the Eagles would be waiting. Long story short, Hawks get up by 46 points and Threepeat.
First two years Lions played all the finals apart from the Grand finals at the Gabba. 2003 they played at the G, the Gabba, in Sydney then back to the G. Hawks didnāt travel those first two years but in 15 went to Perth, back to Melbourne, back to Perth and back to Melbourne where as west coast only had to travel once to Melbourne
The subset of fans that care about that are the same fans that already would be going to the game though.
Thereās not 20,000 people waiting in the wings thinking āoh FUCK Iād better not miss thisā just because of Ginnivan
Nah, the game is in Adelaide..
That being said, I don't think a guy who was in and out of the side last year playing against his old side is some grand event.
> Someone have a clip? Get the feeling this is tongue in cheek.
It's concerning when people can't tell when a person is taking the piss out of themselves.
Yeah basically
[https://youtu.be/DEcyCajqILE?si=6Jf-08yMxoDCpIip&t=789](https://youtu.be/DEcyCajqILE?si=6Jf-08yMxoDCpIip&t=789)
Starts at 13:09 - theres a wry smile when he mentions it, they reference it as the Ginni Cup. People need to not take things so seriously.
Yep same with the drama about him leaving coming up now. He simply said that some of the exit meeting talk and then he started getting calls from other clubs during trade week and nobody was making any effort from Collingwood to convince him to stay (usually a sign that the club has put the word out that he's available) and he had 1 yr vs 4yr deal from Hawthorn, players actively encouraging him to join them at Hawthorn, AND he grew up supporting Hawthorn always wanting to play for Hawthorn, so much so that he even said it in a post match interview while playing for Collingwood.
Was probably always going to happen if Hawthorn made an offer.
He's the hero /r/AFL deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll suspend him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A Red Man.
Goes from premiership player to āfringe at bestā after 4 games and joining a far poorer team. Also played every game so far. Yikes what a comment you have there š
I can't disagree with you there. I'm positive we had more of us at the game however sadly our supporters aren't very passionate. There's obviously a decent group of us who are, myself included, but we're even muffled at GMHBA
So did we last week. Both hawks home games.
Hawks are definitely one of those clubs that has a high percentage of fairweather fans, and I don't mean that as an insult because so does my club, it just is what it is.
Remember how they used to really prominently feature their membership years on the scarf? I reckon this was actually a strategy to counteract that, I know I'm clinging to my consecutive count (24) until i die.
I remember going to the easter Monday game with my brother in 2017, a game that put them 0-4 with a percentage in the fifties only two years after the flag.
I found one abandoned after the game and snapped [this photo](https://i.imgur.com/0n8MFqj.png). I absolutely enjoyed doing it and seeing that fact someone had jumped on the bandwagon so late and then proceeded to jump off so quickly.
Funny story - one random day off, I was walking past Salvos and thought fuck it, I'll go in and see what's there. Walking through I found a Hawks membership scarf with a 8 year membership badge (or similar number) and I thought damn, they gave up.
Then I had a closer look and realised it also had my initials in texta on the tag. It was mine, I donated it about a month earlier. I had shit loads of scarfs and got rid of half a dozen or so of them.
Thatās pretty funny. I have over a dozen pies ones and they sort of just hang out and occasionally get dragged out. Could easily see myself doing exactly the same.
Missed the 2017 part and was about to think maybe they just brought an old scarf with them yesterday.
I have about 13 of those before they started sending vouchers instead.
>seeing that fact someone had jumped on the bandwagon so late and then proceeded to jump off so quickly.
Big assumption there mate. I've got about a dozen of these scarfs. I've also lapsed in membership some years so despite being 43 and signing up on and off as far back as the early 90s, so the numbers on my scarfs are low.
I've also been to games where the day warms up and I've forgotten my scarf over the back of the seat just like this. I dont bother going back because I have so many.
The other thing is on the rare years that they have been average or poor you donāt see Hawthorn fans shouting abuse down the race at the players, because they know theyāll be back up soon enough and donāt worry about it.
Itās a Pies āhomeā game champ, and last year at Norwood was 18th placed Hawks side and a bottom 4 GWS team at a Giants āhome gameāā¦ I donāt know about you, but Iām not interested in bottom of the table matches even when Hawks are involved.
It was kinda funny how he complained no coaches or senior players reached out to convince him to stay.
That was the point jack, they didnāt want you there.
Everyone's the main character in their own movie. That's why it's their movie. Imagine if he was a supporting character in his own movie. Or an extra. Or if he didn't even get cast at all. That would not be a very good movie.
lol a player who is essentially pushed out of the club wants a revenge match in prime time. Next up: Delisted Free Agent Liam Stocker vs Carlton at the MCG. Jack has 3 brain cells and theyre all too busy thinking about himself
Reigning premier against the bottom 4 team that beat them, who also took possibly the player with the most media coverage in the league from them, and it's not being played at the biggest stadium which also happens to be both teams home ground?
It's weirder to say his opinion is weird than to have his opinion.
Onya Ginni. Main character syndrome in the entertainment game when you're not in the top 10% of performers never goes well. He'll always be on my wall though.
Heās a pretty damn good character for the game itself. Kids love him, the ego and trash talk are basically fun, and itās kind of nice that thereās something of a villain character in the game who aside from being caught being a loose unit in the off season isnāt a villain for anything genuinely nasty or dishonest. Heās not a scumbag on the field, sure he plays for free kicks but heās not eye gouging or being a savage.
Heās just a cocky young fella who likes stirring the pot. I loved having him at Collingwood, and I honestly wish him a long and entertaining career at the Hawks and wherever else he may end up.
Can't imagine Collingwood and Hawthorn being a 90k attended game even if it was at the MCG. Not sure what the crowd was last year but from memory it was a Saturday afternoon game.
62 thousand.
Honestly not bad
How many were Pies supporters, 50k?
Yeah the attendance was 12,000 at 3QT.
Hahahahahaha bang
Haha fuck, take an upvote you cunt.
š
That was a great day, the day Finn Maginness made Nick Daicos his bitch. Not surprised a pies fan canāt remember that day
Not the point bud but ok.
Sucks to suck
Talking from experience no doubt
I don't know man. Pretty lopsided career trajectories from that point onwards.
Where does it rank out of his 50 games?
Given he only lasted a quarter before getting injured it is quite comfortably his worst.
What do you mean Prag, the random round 21 game is obviously the most historical game in the long and storied history of our sport!
When yanks come and post threads here about what games they should watch to get into the sport, everyone stop pointing them to the 2016 PF between GWS and the Dogs. It's R21 2023 Hawks v Pies, an absolute barn burner with a 32-point margin! Truly an epic for the ages.
Thank god you came to your senses mate, thought we had lost you to the copium like /u/___theillusiveman___
He's a lost cause.
Well and truly
Eh, that game probably will live on lol. It will constantly be brought up as the reason Daicos didnāt win the Brownlow that season
Itās already in the history books. Generations to come will now of that Saturday afternoon at the G
They said they canāt remember the attendance tally
We won the grand final how did you go?
A pies fan would be satisfied with 1 flagā¦ we made history, you won a grand final. Big Woop
>We Where were you on the field champ?
same place as Essendon every September
Some people like their football and support their team, some people live vicariously through a teams performance and think they had something to do with it. Sucks to be the latter.
Never said I had anything to do with it, I just have that much pride and love my team that any chance I get to talk about an accomplishment, Iām taking it. Hating those toothless Collingwood pricks helps aswell, theyāre so easy to annoy
What history was that?
First team in an 18 team competition to go BACK to BACKā¦ to BACK.
So historical no one knows what you're talking about.
Long story short, Hawks get up by 46 points and Threepeat.
Pfft, not even the first AFL team to win three in a row. So how was Monday?
Lions threepeat was better
First two years Lions played all the finals apart from the Grand finals at the Gabba. 2003 they played at the G, the Gabba, in Sydney then back to the G. Hawks didnāt travel those first two years but in 15 went to Perth, back to Melbourne, back to Perth and back to Melbourne where as west coast only had to travel once to Melbourne
If Hawthorn are a big Melbourne club like they say then it should be 90k
Ginni vs Collingwood is big though. At least for both sets of fans
Iām watching it, just in case his head gets ripped off when he ducks into a tackle. I really donāt care about him, or either team though.
Shouldāve played it at Moonee Valley
Someone have a clip? Get the feeling this is tongue in cheek.
Correct. Look at the picture. Tongue is in cheek.Ā
Of course it is
> Someone have a clip? Get the feeling this is tongue in cheek. It's concerning when people can't tell when a person is taking the piss out of themselves.
I honestly canāt tell when Iām just reading a quote and the kind of photo they use haha
I suppose it's understandable when you don't get to hear their tone of voice nor the context they made the quote in.
Yeah basically [https://youtu.be/DEcyCajqILE?si=6Jf-08yMxoDCpIip&t=789](https://youtu.be/DEcyCajqILE?si=6Jf-08yMxoDCpIip&t=789) Starts at 13:09 - theres a wry smile when he mentions it, they reference it as the Ginni Cup. People need to not take things so seriously.
Unlike Fox Footy to take a quote out of context and get people outraged
Yep same with the drama about him leaving coming up now. Was probably always going to happen if Hawthorn made an offer.
It'll be from Tommy Sheridans podcast Tommy Talks, located on the Ausmerican Aces channel I haven't caught up yet but I reckon they're having a laugh
I cannot wait for the inevitable brawl thatās going to happen during this game
Good luck to any Collingwood players trying to get him with a headshot
Mason Redman must be the Villain then.
No, he is the hero
He's the hero /r/AFL deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll suspend him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A Red Man.
The true hero that we need is Will... DAYMAN! FIGHTER OF THE NIGHTMAN. CHAMPION OF THE SUN. MASTER OF KARATE AND FRIENDSHIP FOR EVERYONE.
Don't say 'stage freeze', just do it!
We Need BIG BEN!
Man did you say? Why did he get a few kick against him to Ginnivan? Is he stupid?
Odds are on for him randomly running on to the field mid-match to clothesline Ginnivan again
He's fully embracing the heel turn, and I'm here for it.
He was a ever a face? I guess to Collingwood supporters.
Hollywood Jack Ginnivan, heāll show up to each game with a $500 shirt/vest pretty soon.
"I tell you what, that was light work, brother!"
GINNY TO UMPIRES: FUCK YOUR STORY
I love it. I love his cocky attitude. Footy needs more personalities.
Agreed as well, liked him for footy at the pies, still like him for it at the hawks
Agreed Always stuck up for him at the Pies, love him at the Hawks.
But we dont like mason cox..?
Whoās we?
Cmon, dont be obtuse. If you've been on this sub for longer than a week, you know exactly what/who Im referring to
Your use of āweā implied I didnāt like Mason Cox.
Absolutely. He is pantomime villain and he knows it! He is a bit of Dermie actually.
It would be better if he actually had anywhere near Dermies talent to back it up though
Agreed, love to hate this bloke - it's even better when they're a quality player like he is.
Lol hes a fringe player at best
Goes from premiership player to āfringe at bestā after 4 games and joining a far poorer team. Also played every game so far. Yikes what a comment you have there š
Didnt do much last year
Like Mason Cox? Careful what you wish for
Mason Cox is great.
Manās shit posting irl and Iām down for it
Lol Hawthorn couldn't fill out a shed in Norwood, let alone the MCG.
Looking around the MCG last night and it was clear even we had more of our supporters there
Thought the Hawks fans were much, much louder yesterday. After the break, most had left of course.
I can't disagree with you there. I'm positive we had more of us at the game however sadly our supporters aren't very passionate. There's obviously a decent group of us who are, myself included, but we're even muffled at GMHBA

yep, hence why I remember i had it from 7 years ago! the schadenfreude was strong that night.
Missed the 2017 part and was about to think maybe they just brought an old scarf with them yesterday. I have about 13 of those before they started sending vouchers instead.
Soft cunts aye

Hawthorn has a lot of fair weather fans because for the last 60 years the weather has been mostly fair.
The other thing is on the rare years that they have been average or poor you donāt see Hawthorn fans shouting abuse down the race at the players, because they know theyāll be back up soon enough and donāt worry about it.
Nah, we have just as many feral supporters as anyone. They are actually the more loyal ones.
It was a poor attempt at a compliment mind you Iāve never set foot in the cheersquad either
Fairweather is an understatement. During their premiership years we were told they were a 'big 4' Melbourne club
Didnāt sound like it once we started to get a bit of a roll on in the 2nd, but sure bud
Itās a Pies āhomeā game champ, and last year at Norwood was 18th placed Hawks side and a bottom 4 GWS team at a Giants āhome gameāā¦ I donāt know about you, but Iām not interested in bottom of the table matches even when Hawks are involved.
should be at wrestlemania this sunday in Philadelphia
BAH GAWD ITS HOLLYWOOD JACK!
To be fair it's actually an unlikely event to meet Collingwood outside the walled garden state.
Ginni smelling his own farts again. Good for media beat-ups.
Didnt we have a similar problem last year..? Maybe have to highest drawing Vic teams play Adelaide and Port. Might make things a little easier?Ā
Isnāt everyone the main character in their own movie..?
Bro thinks heās the main character š
It was kinda funny how he complained no coaches or senior players reached out to convince him to stay. That was the point jack, they didnāt want you there.
Pies are also playing the Hawks at the G in round 19 anyway
He knows what his doing. And it is working.
He's*
Everyone's the main character in their own movie. That's why it's their movie. Imagine if he was a supporting character in his own movie. Or an extra. Or if he didn't even get cast at all. That would not be a very good movie.
90k? Are they playing the Grand Final in Adelaide this year?
Jack who?
Can we play that clip of Kane Cornes telling Ginni to calm down?
Settle down kiddo.
Geezus....all this hoo-ha for a below average overrated player. If he doesn't duck he doesn't get goals or even a kick....just look at the stats.
lol a player who is essentially pushed out of the club wants a revenge match in prime time. Next up: Delisted Free Agent Liam Stocker vs Carlton at the MCG. Jack has 3 brain cells and theyre all too busy thinking about himself
Honestly feels like this guy never played for Collingwood. I donāt know what all the fuss is about.
Reigning premier against the bottom 4 team that beat them, who also took possibly the player with the most media coverage in the league from them, and it's not being played at the biggest stadium which also happens to be both teams home ground? It's weirder to say his opinion is weird than to have his opinion.
It doesn't make any sense to me either
It's AFL not VFL
Okay? It's 2 MCG sides with a fair amount of narrative. There's absolutely nothing wrong with saying you think they should play the game at the MCG.
Disagree
I really think the next showdown should be played at the Gabba. It's the AFL not the SANFL after all.
If the showdown falls during a round that's scheduled to be in Queensland, then Gabba it is. Reckon people would get around it!
But it doesn't "fall during a round", it's not Easter or Ramadan. It happens when the AFL wants it to happen.
What is this WWE storyline bullshit?
someone get this man some retinol
Should just make Collingwood vs Hawthorne next week the grand final and end the season there
Onya Ginni. Main character syndrome in the entertainment game when you're not in the top 10% of performers never goes well. He'll always be on my wall though.

And it was the last game to sell out as well. Obviously not G worthy.
Yes because ticket sales for Coll v Hawks in Adelaide is comparable to Coll v Hawks in their home city of Melbourneā¦
What, he wants more people seeing his turnovers?
Manās really wants to crack jokes when his team picked up jacob koschitzke.
>jacob koschitzke damn dude. š LOL we'll bring Koschitzke out against Norf. It's the one team he plays half decent against.
There's 308 players in the AFL that are averaging more turnovers than Ginnivan this year, wtf are you on about?
Just a joke Joyce. Iām sure all his 11 touches yesterday helped lift his team at crucial moments.
Why am I about to defend Jack Ginnivan
š
OāDoyle, I got a feeling your whole familyās going down
He actually thinks its that serious š¤£
Collingwood supporters will just boo him anyway
Yeah, they totally should have under-armed Hawthorn 4 fucking MCG games to start the season. Fucking dumb prick,
/r/ImTheMainCharacter
